Best to use new gaskets.

 

Yes they're not expensive from the stealers, around £6 each inc VAT IIRC.

That said i had my manifold off the other day and re-used a pair of year-old gaskets rather than drive 70 miles for a new pair.

 

Anyone got a guide to removing the inlet manifold now that there is a straight forward guide to re-painting it?

 

yeah a how to on getting the manifold off would be great

 

im sure someone did a how to guide in the projects forum on this

On the dishwasher subject I've had our old one in my garage for a couple of years now, and can honestly say it's one of the best tools I own, it makes rebuilding stuff so much cleaner and nicer
Mines got the steam drying facility on it too, so stuff comes out warm, dry and ready to paint
It's had cylinder heads, rocker covers, wheel hubs (car and bike), most of my tools, and all sorts of other stuff in it. For best results use the cheapest coarsest dishwasher powder you can find, supermarket own brand is good, what you're looking for is something that would destroy the best crystal in one shot

Just thought I'd share since I'm quite pleased with ourselves for getting it all back together and starting first time!! Very Happy

Like I said in the thread, it looks better in the flesh. The first pic of the mani painted reflects what it looks like better, rather than the ones where it's back in place and it just looks like a crazy heavenly mass of light emitting from the middle of the engine bay!!! lol

Here's a couple quick pics for ya if you don't wanna sign up.

 

It seems that VHT have changed the shade of their Red Wrinkle-Plus paint.

I now have five tins of the rebranded paint (bought from two different suppliers) and the red is now far too orangey for any inlet manifold to pass as an original STi one. See the picture below for a cross pipe i did in the new paint versus an STi manifold i refurbished and fitted to my car over a year ago.



The paint now comes in tins like this...



If you have any of the wrinkle-effect paint branded like the tin on the right you should be ok.



I have contacted VHT but am expecting confirmation of the change of shade rather than a supply of paint in the correct shade.

was going to do mine in this paint but might just see if i can polish it instead

 

i have got a can of the new stuff at home, and was going to paint my spaire one when i get a chance, it will be bit of a bugga if they have changed shades

 

I'd test the paint on something else first to see if you can live with the colour. I shan't be using it anymore. The old stuff was a pretty good match for the STi red, it actually got better with age. The new stuff is nowhere near being a match.

 

Arch, pleased to hear the wedge worked. I am currently considering my options so the RA can become more focused. It wasn't much fun using it for commuting to work last week.

So the expected reply really.

If you've had a refurbished manifold from myself, Mark, API or if you've done one yourself you'd best be looking after them. An appreciating commodity!
