I have a dark green metalic car.. with lime green subtle graphics on it.. and was tempted to do under the bonnet lime green manifold and black samco's.. but considering I have blue samco's on everything at the moment the cost and waste would be too great.. so I think the manifold will be black and sticking with the blue samco's.

Would be a good time to post a picture of Cords Skyline engine bay now

Out of interest, is it alot of work/time/hassel to removed the inlet manifold?

 

it is not mine!!!

I don't go out often.. I have just moved on from the 80s white shirts..
I seem to spend too much time under scoob bonnets or in passenger seats etc to have time to go out!

I have posted a pic of myself on another BBS wearing a white shirt and white linen trousers but not for this thread i feel

I have done a lot of black powder coating under the bonnett of mine recently, and it looks very nice. I am beginning to think a all black set up (no chrome or polished stainless/ally), black hoses and a suitably coloured inlet manifold to set it all off would look superb.

It is a bit of grief, as so much has to be un-coupled etc to free it off the engine.
Lots of fooling about, but i will be getting back to mine for a reversal job I think come Xmas.

It's not that bad a job Neil, just fiddly. It'll soon become apparent what you have/haven't disconnected when you go to try and lift the manifold off. I did mine with the alternator etc in place although it would probably have been easier to remove these first IMO. Should be do-able in the morning if it's just a straight swap. I swapped my fuel rails/injectors and did the breather mod at the same time though.

i seriously need to spend some time in my engine bay! its a disgrace!!!!!
i have access to paint strip facilites, shot blast facilties, and a paint shop, at work, so should be ok!!!!
just looks a very daunting task to remove it.
is there anything that needs replacing when the manifold is removed??
gaskets etc?

2x Inlet Manifold Gaskets
1x Throttle Body Gasket
1x IACV Gasket (if <MY99)

You'll also need some thread sealant for the BSPT fittings (servo assist take off & breather PCV).

 

Fit some inlet manifold and header tank insulators from a guy called Carl Davey too!

It seals the threads on the taper fittings mentioned.

 

The spacers prevent heat soaking from the heads into the inlet manifold casting, which, being aluminium alloy is VERY heat conductive.
When hot, the inlet will heat the charge air passing through it, the very air the TMIC/FMIC has been trying to cool.
Similarly, the radiator header tank passes the heat of the cooling system @ 100 Deg c ish straight to one side of the inlet manifold that you are trying to keep cool by fitting the above insulators, so you must fit the insulator bushes to the tank mounting bolts.

That is why Carl sells them as a complete kit, they are complimentry to each other.

I'm also doing this mod and like to now where/how i can contact Carl for those insulators.

If i need them anyway i better can do it the right way.

I'm also thinking of putting a inlet temperature gauge in the car and mount the sensor in the blanket off hole above the throttle body on top off the manifold MY'99.

Does anybody now what kind off gauge and sensor i can use for this

 

could you get your manifold ceramic coated or are there problems with clearance in areas around it ??

The smoothrite stuf does look good though too.
