smanning, you're quite right it wouldn't take long to just simply drive around the island. Probably only about 2.5hours, but if people want to see the sights it will take a lot longer, you just need to know where to go!!
I agree with Dyney, it would be nice to see the sights (even though I've seen them time and time again) in the day time and have several beers in the evening
Regards
Steve

Hi Steve

Yeh! Driving, see the sights, a few beers (one or two only) and a good old relax and chat!

In the meantime, we are taking the family to the island next week (Thorness Bay). This will be our twelfth trip to the island (since 1985). We love it!
Will be in a silver Forester Turbo (more room for four kids) so if you get flashed by one it will be an Impreza in spirit!

Wight Mouse inn is a great place. Food and booze excellent but can't comment on accomadation. Whenever I go to the I_O_W I always go to this pub at least once!

Just spent the weekend on the Island.
Stayed at the Clarendon Hotel/Wight Mouse Inn which is in Chale (5 mins from BlackGang)
Nice, cosy hotel, large room with seating area (comfy chairs and sofa) plus bunk beds for kids. 6ft bed which meant my wife had no-idea what time I came in from the bar downstairs A suite with a Water Bed is also available

The Wight Mouse Inn is attached to the hotel and offers 365 different whiskey's. Usual pub grub, but , best of all for families, it is VERY family orientated. Outside, it has a large beer gardens and playground area for kids. Even better still, it also has an indoor 'soft play' playarea. Because of the so-so weather this weekend, my kids almost had the place to themselves, although I bet its busy in the 'real' summer season.

The price (high-season, obviously) was £112 per night per family, B&B + £49 for return ferry crossing. I'm sure it will be cheaper.
For those without kiddies, there is also a 'sister' hotel across the road, with what looks like, superb seaviews. A better bet for a quieter, kiddies free, stay.

24 hr security and security cameras in all car-parks for those worried about our pride-and-joys and even the bouncer (Paul) was friendly.

I'd stay there again, but as I believe Rosco knows it even better.....maybe he could comment.

David.

Hi Dave
Yes it is a nice place to stay and as you siad it is very family orientated. As for the price I couldn't comment as to whether it's good or not, that's probably something that depends as to how enjoyable your stay was made for you. The Chale Bay Farm that you refered to across the road is basically a posher more expensive Hotel without children. I don't think it has been too successful when it was first built and this is what made the original owners sell up!

As for security, I don't think anyone has any real worries about it unless you normally keep your cars locked in Fort Knox every night. It is about as safe a place as you can get for theft. You do get the occasional spate of vandalism from a drunken pri** if left in town, but even that isn't often!
I'm sure you'll all enjoy the weekend and I'll look forward to meeting you all.

Regards
Steve Ross

P.S. It is unlikely you will ever see many scoobys over here, there are only about twenty or so in the whole island!

Hi Steve

Just got back from a brill hol - all to do with the weather, I guess!

Was that you on Tuesday 24th at the junction near the Ryde McDonalds (traffic lights)??
It was a silver scoob but could not see the wheels. Other than that excitement on the Tuesday, did'nt see another for a few days, in spite of there being six pairs of eyes on the lookout! On Thursday spotted a nice red S-reg locally registered car (female driver) in Newport (that wasn't you). Cruising the Sandown area on Saturday awaiting the ferry when we were "scoobed-out" in the space of half an hour with a silver five door (ASN plate) and an M-reg Sport, again silver. Isn't this sad? Worse than train spotting! Anyway, was that you on Tuesday?

Hi Keith
No, unfortunately my cars been sat in my garage all of last week waiting for my new brake kit to be rectified. Mines a Dark Blue one with P1 wheels and I'm sorry to say I didn't spot yours either.
Cheers

They hardly had any rooms left - apparently it's the start of half term for the kiddies that week!
