Had mine since July 2002 (Sept 2000)

1) approx 50k in 3 years (driving to Germany puts the miles on just fine)

2) 36k

3) No Engine failure although-

4) G/box siezed at 45k, had 4 MAF's (claimed twice on Warrenty) , 1 power steering pump and about 2k or so on mods! Not a penny on speeding fines either (just jinxed myself)

Wouldn't change it though!

MY00 UK car, slightly modded, TEK 2.5 and a partial de-cat, Magnex downpipe.
1) 107000
2) 50000
3)None, full Subaru Service History, But 2 Mafs in 2 years. 5th gear mod, done by myself when 6 months out of warrenty. 3 sets of brake discs, lots of pads, clutch at 95k and 1 front wheel bearing and hub. Also 4 trackdays.
Don't like too think about the cost but always keep a bit of cash spare for unexpected failures.

Just replaced a MY99 UK Turbo after 3 1/2 years.

1. 95,700 when sold

2. 62,000 when purchased

3. No engine failures - MAF sensor replaced earlier this year - £100

4. As per other responses too much to think about really - petrol, insurance & servicing. Although servicing mainly done by Scoobyclinic so could have been much more!!
Biggets bill was big big cambelt service, colour coding, roof/bonnet/bumper re-spray (stone chips) & de-cat downpipe all in one go circ £1,500. Most of that was personal choice of course - service was probably £400 of that. Only other mods were remainder de-cat (brand new centre) and back box (2nd hand) - £240, cystal side lights, indicators and repeaters - £60 (all 2nd hand), mud flaps £100 (kit), powder coated wheels - £170, couple of RR days £100! & a Road Angel that I wouldn't have bought if I didn't have a Scoob - £300 !!!

I'm sure my faulty maf caused my engine failure, i've spoken to a number of mechanics and they have suggested a replacement maf every year.

You can test them by measuring the resistance across the terminals but at £60/70 a pop normally best to replace.

cheers
Chris

When my MAF went the idling in neutral was going up and down all the time and it was almost cutting out.
Mine went when the car was 4 years old (now 6) and i have a new MAF ready for fitting when the time comes

September 99 UK Turbowagon.
From new, 20 miles on clock when collected.
35K miles now.
TSL geometry only "mod".
No problems, wood being touched. I don't rag it though.
Precautionary MAF change earlier this year.
Costs, well I keep records but don't fancy adding up.
Do most servicing myself since out of warranty.
Has gone through 4 MOTs with no problems.
Needs a new backbox soon 'cos original starting to go at rear endplate seam.

Luckily my MAF failure wasn't a failure as such - it was spotted on a RR day so was changed then but could have gone at any point. I hadn't noticed any difference in performance but the fuel mix etc was apparanetly way out.

They say that oiled foam air filters are bad news for MAFs too but opinion is divided.

MY99 Classic Wagon

1. 54,000
2. Nil( new, Nov.'98)
3. No failures(MAF + O2 sensors changed as precautions)
4. Reasonably high due to usual popular mods but spread over last 3 years but servicing/petrol costs reasonably modest due to lower labour rates in Scotland and car now used only at weekends.

Dave.
