hi al, need some infomation on classic owners who have had there subaru for more than 2 years.

Not quite two years but....

1) 30 000 miles

2) 60 000 miles at purchase - MY94 import wagon WRX

3) no engine failure -- seems strong.

4) High, mainly due to petrol (i guess about 5000 quids worth of petrol) and modifications. My mods were done as cheaply as possible, most work myself and many components secondhand, but still total over 2500 quid (brakes, alloys, intercooler, turbo, ecu map, fuel pump, gauges, knocklink ect). Only thing that i really HAD to do was new coil packs (200 quid) and cambelt (150 quid) and lots of oil changes (40 quid each, I estimate i have done 10)

2 1/2 years

1) 15000

2) 40000 - my00 uk turbo

3) no engine failure - only problem was MAF failure £79

4) High - Petrol, Regular servicing, Mods

2 years 99 uk

moderate, light footed, Sainsbury's Super, all servicing done by Subaru employee, at home at a fraction of the garage price, all parts Subaru bought at cost, only draw back book not stamped,

3. Cambelt changed under warranty (slipped guide, but no failure). MAF sensor at about 30k.
4. A lot - petrol, insurance, servicing, trackdays, and modifications. All worth it though :D

My99 uk turbo purchased two and half year ago.

No problems apart from two MAF's
spend on average £2750 a year on petrol, and spent another £3500 on servicing and mods per year.

MY99 UK Turbo Wagon owned since new (just over 6 years)

1) 72,000 miles covered

2) 0 mileage at time of purchase

3) Zero engine failures (2 juddering clutches replaced under warranty)

3) cost since ownership - eek, don't want to think about this. Thousands and thousands. 72k miles at 23mpg is about £11k in petrol alone. £17k in depreciation. £6k on tyres, servicing and mild mods. So about £34k so far. 47p per mile doesn't sound quite so bad.

MY99 RB5

1) 83,000 miles covered
2) bought new
3) None (1 O2 sensor, 1 MAF, 1 knock sensor)
3) Cost since ownership :eek: Thousands and thousands. Fuel, Tyres, Mods, brakes, alloys, servicing, insurance. Scared to work it all out, but it's a lot.

PS only had the car a few days! lol

Would'nt change a thing tho (with hindsight i would change the maf every year).
Car has been driven hard everywhere, pound for pound nothing can come close IMHO

4)ALOT!! impreza is a high mantainence car but if well looked after??
mine is on 112000 self seviced and still drives like the 50000 when i brought her and its seen a few track days worth every penny!!!

1) 72,000 miles in 4 1/2 years

3) 1 big end failure at 61,200 miles. Required full rebuild including block, crank, pistons, turbo, oil pump etc.
4) Main dealer servicing, 3 sets of tyres, 2 sets brake pads, 1 set discs, petrol at 23mpg avg, plus about £2000 for the engine rebuild.

standard Uk 2000 Turbo 1998

No problem with engine what so ever...touch wood

Only real cost over a normal car is the petrol...40 quid got me 200 miles last week :o

3) None, but I did have the cursed fifth gear problem which was sorted under warranty...

4) My best advice is, don't buy one of these cars if you do high mileage or you are a high insurance risk. I have spent the following:

New car - £21,000
PPP - £2,000
Quickshift - £300
17" OZ alloys - £400
Two sets of tyres - £800
Petrol - about £1,600 per year on average (8,000 miles per year Optimax)

Total of - £33,500 and worth every penny... The insurance isn't that bad if you are an old fart. Also, the servicing is pretty reasonable if you ask me. Have a chat with the owner of any performance car and you will find that the servicing is about average. I know one guy who has an Audi A4 1.8T and the 5 year service on that just cost him £1,100 (and he wasn't ripped off)!!

Owned MY00 GT from New bought june 2000
had 3k km on it as it was demo car and used by dealer for shopping etc
currently has 72k KM on it
no failures except front brake disks replaced on warrenty due to cracking after 3 years.

Lots of mods and still runs really well. No problems at all with the exception of the odd strange noise but it still does 260kmh so I ain't to worried about it :)

Well I am coming up to 2 years.

1) About 12K Miles

2) 35K at purchase

3) Engine failure x 2. (second done under warranty)

3) £27K And counting!

Past both MOTs whilst I had it. Would have cost me more if I had hung on to it due to suspect Gear box and sticking brakes.

Imported my standard MY93 WRX in 2000

1) Since 2000, have covered 100,000 miles :eek:

2) Was on 46,000 miles when imported

3) Engine parts that have failed are MAP sensor (£30 for replacement) and coolant temp sensor (£30), top rad hose, [edited to add], driver's side rocker gasket and fuel pump.

4) Cost since ownership - above, plus normal consumables - fuel, brakes, tyres, oil, cam belt etc, and a few minor mods - 4-pot brakes, decat exhaust. Most work done by myself (except exhaust and cam belt change). Don't want to think about what 100k miles at around 22mpg has cost!!

Car still gets driven like it should, and even paid a visit to Italy this summer! :D
