Honda NSX, anyone else like these?

According to Honda the NSX replacement, due in 2008, will have V10 power and all wheel drive.

But (and there always is ) it does feel like the chassis could handle a hell of a lot more power.
Replacement has 4wd??? Ahh boo, that'll spoil it IMO, just make it into yet another fool proof rice rocket. But I suppose it is already pretty much fool proof as it is anyway

You could have always have got the RS. Only 260 bhp but just 1230KG.
How musc did the NSX cost in '91..any idea? Just thinking further, Porsche were still selling the very last batch of 944 Turbo's (only 25bhp down) back then too. Amazing how Porsche and Honda were years apart in terms of technology, or so it appeared.

But it certainly wasn't RS-priced. And about 1260kg, IIRC.

I was never put off at its lack of "Italian badge" jap car's rarely get the accolades they deserve against that kind of field... Sod the image, with the looks and performance for that money - its awesome!

Who care's what badge it has on if its good, I would rather have an NSX than the equivalent ammount of Ferrari as at those prices the Ferrari would be old and rubbish in comparison, and break down. Perhaps its best to look at the NSX as the Americans o, sort of premium mainstream rather (like the Supra) than 2nd division Supercar, trouble is that it was too expensive for that, a lot cheaper in the states.
I think its problem is that it looks faster than it is, 300 + bhp used to just about cut it but nowadays your average mid range Merc can have that, an Astra VXR wouldnt be far off in a straight line, as Ali B said, that is still plenty for British roads and perhaps we shouldnt feel the need to keep up with bhp arms race.
I think this is the problem across the board, there is a lot of very fast cheap new stuff coming through making the old stuff look old and outclassed, I just need prices to catch up with this.

There's a nice 1998 with 38K down the road from me...£28K on the window sticker (so obviously negogiable). Ours was £25K, so I find it hard to find anything else in that bracket of that age or newer. Without looking at TVRs (unreliable, kit car esq) BMWs (yawn, just like what everyone else has), Porsche (Boxster, I don't think so, or a very rough post 1995 911 ). Merc CL500 (not that focused or sporty though) Jags (same problem....lux-o-barge).
So without going to a lesser class of car, you really struggling. And then you have the problem with depreciation and lack of low down grunt (like an s2000...no offence intended ) due to the smaller weedy engines that rely on turbos/vetecs to get their power rather than sheer capacity.

Not a great lover of Turbo cars myself though. Give me a normally aspirated car over a turbo every time.

Turbos completely ruin throttle response.

Damn wot a coincidence, I was just saying this to a friend yesterday that there has always been something special about the NSX particularly the deadly looks. It still looks like a modern day supercar though in reality it is such an old concept.
Love the NSX and always will do

Only owned 1 performance turbo car. Felt very detached feeling from the engine, a fake feel almost. Fine once you mastered it on track but I dunno, just feels odd.
I'd have small turbo's on a road car - passat, TDi and such like - but as a performance car, give me a decent N/A engine. Plus I hate all this whhoooosshhh chhiissshhhh swwiiissshhhh sssshhhhzzzuuuuuuu bollox. It's proper gay!!

Im 35, trouble is having 3 kids has hampered my car aspirations, 20 grand on a people carrier ffs, so no, I havent grown out of it, I am grateful for the turbo on my Saab 9-3, I have driven the non turbo and its ****, N/A is ok for the well heeled purists (i.e. those who can do it properly) but for the rest of us the turbo is the way to making crap cars fast (Ask Subaru !)

Jacko, you made the mistake of having a family over car aspirations?! Tut tut
Senior, how come you're on here if you dont like turbo's out of interest? Are you a little further right of PS Lewis?!
A supercharged NSX would be mental - maybe an idea for my next project! Hmmm.

God, I must be having a mid life crisis that merged from pubity as I am 34 (or am i 35, I cant remember !!!) and I love the sound of the turbo wooooosh !!!! Still appreciate big engines and supercharged engines for the instant torque, but that feeling when a turbo kicks in makes me appreciate mine (big childish grin appears !!!). Especially when I have been driving my missus Focus all week.
wouldn't say no to the NSX though !!

However, when you're spending circa 40k on a car, there are lots of other things out there that appeal, i.e M3, 911 etc.
I have to say that the NSX was certainly quicker than my old STI5 TypeR, and certainly better to drive and it handled beautifully. It's a proper supercar that you can use everyday, which is what I'd be doing.
Any excuse to post a gratuitous pic of the beastie on my driveway!

Call me an eccentric if you will, but I always found it funny seeing some self acclaimed driving god jump into an old 1986 911, stall it twice when trying to pull away and wrestle to geting to 1st or 2nd on the downchanges, Not to mention the handling characteristics (nothing wrong with it IMO ) They would curse and say its a load of crap, but I loved it and learnt to drive them properly.
924/944/928 however is a different story, they were always easy to drive
