Skittish is good actually remember, you want a car that can change direction easily, thats what wins races. Going around corners.

Veyron uses Turbos, a carbon/alloy mix for the shell and has 2 seats? Whats new? Wheres the amazing new technology?

What Bugatti's engineers should of done is made a car that had more to it than going fast in a straight line.
If they'd built a car that weighed less than a ton, did 250+, could carry more luggage than a 5 Series, and used a NA 4 litre V10 that reved to 10K to get 900 BHP. I would of applauded. That would of been a case of bettering the F1 in EVERY aspect. Not just the top speed/acceleration thing.

Conti and vanquish are never faster than an F40. F40 is light as hell and still one of the fastest accelerating cars around. I think basically different people have different ideas of what a supercar should be, which is fair enough. I for one think it is about brutal power and speed. If you want handling get a light track day special like a radical or atom. If i was buying a supercar, which will never happen, I would want the loudest, fastest i.e acceleration and top speed, and maddest looking thing out there, which is the Veyron at the moment. Supercars is all about the numbers as you hardly ever get to use its full potential anyway but its about sitting next to the boy in an F1 or Enzo knowing your Veyron would blow them away in a straight race and has far more power and torque than they could ever dream of. Its a my **** is bigger than your **** thing. Just my opinion though.

The F430 is FASTER than the F40! (According to Evo anyway)
You may beat me in a straight line, but round a decent track like Spa I'd hand you your *** Thats what Supercars are. Race cars without stickers. Not Drag race things.

Amazing car, only thing i could see is the point about it not having that carisma that the F1 does and the F40 etc..., which many reviews have commented on.
Also have a butch at this, a contender for the production performance king?

Also does anyone have a 1/4 mile time for the veyron? Wondered if any other road legal 'tuner' such as norris designs could beat it?

Does anyone actually have any indepently tested figures of the Buggati, as I said earlier, I still want a few magazines to test it, and I still think Buggati claiming 0-60 in 2.5secs for a car weighing two ton even with 4wd is still too quick.
It is a pointless figure, but they quoted it.........2.5secs is just about what the genuine drag legal 1000bhp+ stripped Skylines with far more power per weight than the Buggati are getting near.

Is it only me that thinks that the Bugatti is pants.
It may be very quick to 200mph however I am sure that round the 'Ring much more gorgeous F1 would whip its ****!!
Harry at evo thought it was great in a straight line - not designed for corners tho.
Big, fat, heavy and ugly I say.

The very fact, it didn't do a Timed Lap on Top Gear says a lot for what this car is ACTUALLY capable of. As you say the stripped out Skylines aren't turning the figures, Im sure the Veyron OUGHT to be more aero efficient, but its this lack of figures I find interesting. What are Bugatti hiding? And on that note, how can a dial reading 0 -1001 BHP be accurate?

I was speaking to the owner of one over dinner and in March this year, and he keep going on about they tyres being the limiting factor on the car. I understand there is only one type and size of tyres that fit the standard rims, and like the car they are a 10 year old design. He is convinced tyre technology has moved on "that" much.
From what I gather his tuned GT3 is a quicker car around the ring, so I'd have to assume the Bugatti would be too due to way better tyres.
I recently saw a pic of the Macca and he had some lurid gold BBS race wheels on! Looks like he is tackling the problem!

10 Years of tyre development is an enormous amount, but why the hell do you think the F1 would still be on the tyres it left the factory with? It will be on MODERN 17" tyres.

Only one type of tyre is available for that size of wheel, and it's a 10 year old design.

When the F1's were launched, they were on Goodyear tyres. (Goodyear were supplying the race team at the time)
Last 2 F1's I saw were sat on Michelins. And before that someone once told me they saw a F1 on Bridgestones. (Im sure you can work out why)
Front tyre size is 235/45ZR-17
Rear tyre size is 315/45ZR-17
Rears might be a little awkward, but you could always go up a little or down a little to find the correct tyre.

It's all subjective of course but the Veyron has received so many positive comments on its looks, the F1 has never been talked about as any kind of beauty.

Beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder, but that hasn't always been the point of supercars - they are rarely beautiful, in the sense that the new Aston Martin AMV8 is, but they are always stunning - that's the point. I think the F1, Bugatti, F40, F50, Zonda, Carrera GT & Enzo all fall in to this category.

Veyron is for cruisers/poseurs. People who want to go fast but have an easy time of it. 4wd, ESP, Turbos etc. Gadgetry if you will. People who want to make an impact on their surroundings. Have the right to say "I have the fastest production car"
F1 is for Racers. People who want to feel involved in the process. A more purer approach perhaps. NA. RWD no electronics at all.
No prizes for guessing which I consider myself in.

I dont think the Veyron was built to be a competitor to any of these other mentioned 'supercars' it was mearly an exercise to show what was achievable & for some reason (probably just to keep the Bugatti badge alive & have everyone talking about - which it has clearly done) it made it into production in a very small number at a huge loss (£4.25M / car sold!!). Its not there to compete at all, its just - the fastest production road car ever made!! When will that title be taken from them.....another 10 years perhaps if it happens!!
Anyway....not as if any of us will ever have one anyway!! :P

horrible looking car , wicked engine tho !!! but @ the end of the day its designed by the same ppl who design audi , vw , seat , skoda , lambo , which means the bugatti is just a marketing tool for audi, vw owners and to stopp their massive investment in the bugatti name going **** up. Cant wait for them to bring out the normal family audi le mans car (u know the one that is in gran tourismo 4 and looks like the audi out of I Robot ) lol
