Did they say who the top notch warranty would be with. Every 3rd party warranty i've had hasn't been worth the paper it was printed on. They riggled out of paying for anything.... unter sh*te. Hope yours is better!

Have just read Pistonheads article posted by Dick Cheese. The least said about that stage name the better!!

According to the statement from Motorpoint they are only giving a one year warranty! Have they given you three years DonniDarko? Suppose they ought to in fairness.

This will be bad news for Motorpoint when the word gets around and if other manufacturers start doing the same. How much is an extended warrantee on a WRX now? x 2 years + security etc and it can't be far off a dealer price.

Well, it's a result for DonnieDarko which is a good 'un, and it also will be an interesting one to see how well the supermarkets do with "just" a year's aftermarket warranty now...

If nothing else, it's clarified the position so no-one should be in any doubt when they buy a car from a supermarket from now on.

One thought: are IM going to let the dealers service cars supplied in this way, or will they refuse them as they currently do with grey imports?

Also need to think about the 2nd hand value if you sell in the first three years as will be much harder to sell without a Subaru warranty,

I would think about a grand compensation for that.

Did you not read anything that I posted you imbecile, I wanted the car that I wanted, i'm not looking for help from you I was merely stating that I had been mis lead and mis sold a product that my company purchased in good faith irrelevant of origin.

To be honest, what happens to the car will have little affect on me personally, the warranty will pay up, the dealer will pay up, my company will pay up and in two years time I will get a new one issued to me through my company, and no, I will most certainly not be buying from you.

I only hope that your comments are seen by either IM or Subaru UK and you are made to answer for the comments that you are making to your comapnies target market. And I would just love to show you what bat I use.

I have today received a letter from motorpoint also offering me a warranty for 3 years in fact it would appear they have already agreed this and it is up and running. However i do not have any terms and conditions attached just a certificate which shows that the policy has a claim linit of £1000.

I don't know if this is that same as Donnie Darko has got but I am not happy as a manufacturers warrant doesn't have a limit on it, if the car u purchase has a complete malfunction and is irrepairable are you not entitled to a new one or your money back under a manufacturers warranty.?

I will get my letter together this weekend not accepting this as an end to the situation.

It also states that my dealer will have to gain authorisation from the warranty company prior to work being commenced however my dealer wouldn't touch my car until payment had been made by Motorpoint direct to them. They said that they are not going to wait for money that they may never get, so will dealers actually trust this warranty or will it be a case whereas "us " have to pay up front and then try and recover the costs from the warranty company.

Would i buy another Subaru i was asked yesterday - although it is the best car i have driven i think it would be no, however if i did want to purchase another one it would be another import as i would never buy a uk car as it would help line Subaru Uk's pockets and just from my own personal experience with dealing with them trying to sort this out i can honestly say its has been horrendous.

Well Alliance are still claiming to offer a 3 year subaru warranty on MY06 cars
WRX 4 Dr £16,795 OTR, WRX 5 Dr £17,795 and STi £23,495 OTR Prices includes 3 years Subaru warranty so maybe people won't have to suffer inferior warranties after all!

Finally this morning i have received THE LETTER from Subaru confirming that i do not have a warranty on my vehicle.

They explain it is all down to the fact i purchased the car from stock therefore Motorpoint are an illegal reseller. I think this what we all know now but if we would have all the paperwork to show they had acted as an intermediary we would have been ok.

Well thats that now the fun starts with the legals against Motorpoint as according to the letter from Subaru they shouldn't have sold me the vehicle in the first place which puts a different spin on my legal case.

It will be intersting to see how this pans out for those who have already bought cars from the car supermarkets and find yourselves exposed to un-warrantied cars potentially. It will certainly be costly to the motorpoints of this world and the warranty on offer doesn't appear quite to the same level as a UK car. I wonder if it will be down to what each individual can battle out of them or will the best final solution be offered to all owners alike?

Any new sales, now it has all been clarified, are at purchasers "risk" but they should know how they stand in advance of ordering.

I am disheartened by the stance some UK sourced car owners (or Subaru employees) have taken over this subject. I personally have a UK car car but feel compassion for those caught up in all this.

If I was in the position of having a motorpoint car, I'd be onto them to get a 3 year unlimited claim value warranty, as that's what you were told you were getting when you bought the car. If they told me to accept the lesser warranty, I'd be onto trading standards, the CAB, and any finance company involved (check the consumer credit act out- the finance company is liable for misdescriptions in some instances)

Could I suggest if people do want to get legal - and I reiterate that this is the last resort after trying all other routes - that they exchange information and save on costs by doing stuff as a group? The only winners if everyone takes legal advice are the lawyers!

Can I ask again: Has anyone who recieved a letter from IM confirming the warranty on their EU Import which was bought from Motorpoint/Alliance etc etc, subsequently received one saying it is now no longer valid ??

The reason I ask is the Motorpoint announcement says that they will give a 1 year warranty for all cars bought in the last 12 months, but AFAIK IM only started to refuse to register the warranties a couple of months ago.

not had my letter from motorpoint, sounds like they were talking about this £1000 limit one though. TBH i can't find an unlimited aftermarket warranty, best i've found was £2500 limit for around £1500 for 3 years http://www.warrantywise.co.uk/?lid=Warranty+Wise

Phil, I'm assuming that Motorpoint has reviewed that and found that they can't do that for whatever reason. It would by far be easiest for all involved, so there must be some reason why it's not the way everything's going...

Motorpoint seem to missing the whole point in that press release. We all purchased cars with a 3 year manufacturers warranty which we haven't got so we were missold the car. It doens't matter if they are offering a 12 month warranty to all of us that have bought them that doesn't help us with the resale value on the car due to there not being a warranty on the car. Plus according to Subaru Uk they are unauthorised resellers so they shouldn't have sold the car to us in the first place.

I am sure that there will be people in the position whereas they purchased the car from motorpoint 18 months plus ago and never realised they had to register like myself until something goes wrong then they will not have a warranty and according to Motorpoint are not gonna get one from them either as it has been over 12 months since they purchased the car.

I bought my car from Alliance in April and haven't received anything from IM other than my original letter telling me I am covered by a 3 year pan european warranty. I wish someone would clarify my situation as at the moment I haven't got a clue and it's a bit worrying if I need to claim on the warranty.

Have people who have received the letter saying there warranty was not valid received an earlier letter saying there car was covered under warranty?

You have to send all your documents to IM to start off with before they will give you an answer as to whether you have a warranty or not. Did you buy the car from stock that alliance had in?

If so then u definitely will not have a warranty.

If you need work doing i would go back to alliance and get them to pay for it as it takes Subaru Uk a long time to respond plus you will probably not have a warranty at the end of it anyway.

ibought my subaru from motor depot/allbrandsnew in hull before the warranty issues were raised, only bought it because i saw it in the showroom and it had the blue interior/gold alloys and high rear spoiler which looked great but now wish i had never seen this car if the warranty issues are not solved.

I am in the same position as you and AFAIK no one has had a second letter saying that the warranty is invalid .......yet !

Fingers crossed it will be ok as I think that if you have recived a letter from IM saying the warranty was ok, then the car will have been added to the warranty system database already. I also think it would be extremely hard for IM to try and revoke a warranty once they had confirmed (in writing) it was valid.
