Bugeyes Good or Bad ???
Dan - The UK300 lights are probably my favourites mate. Is there anything you can do about the orange bits in them - not that they are really noticeable.
Considering getting some replacements lights myself at some point, but not at all high on the list of priorities. Probably be morettes as the UK300 or STI units seem hard to come by without resorting to paying Subaru far too much money.

I bought the car always knowing I was going to modify it - and like any Subaru, it is a great 'base' car on which to build.
Edited to add: In my opinion 'phase 1' mods should be performance de-cat exhaust, panel filter, Eibach's with full geometry and uprated front brakes on the WRX. EcuTek 3 remap is also an option well worth consideration.

Rich.
I have heard that it's possible to remove the orange tango in bits using a set of thin nosed pliars.. AFAIK that's how Revolution Motorsport did them in the end as it does not involve heating the units
Midlife.....

On my first bugeye I heated up the units and prised them open. Lots of time and effort and they never ever sealed properly after
My firends bugeye has now got clear headlamps, but he just broke up the orange lens cover with a screw driver and pliers. wish i`d gone that way.

By the way, I love my bugeye.
No, less red mica cars were made than any other colour
We had the last brand new bugeye in the south of england, and the last 3 were 2x green and 1x red.
I had a guy ask whether the car had been re-sprayed because he thought they only made them in blue, black and silver

Rich - I put my headlights in the oven at 150 degrees for about ten minutes. That softened the silicone up enough to prise them apart with a screw driver.
The problem with breaking up the orange bit inside the unit with pliers etc is that the silver reflective finish is very delicate. Shattering the orange bit is bound to scratch this surface. I am sure the scratches won’t be very visible, but they will be there, making the oven method worth the extra effort. I would go with the oven method, but just be very careful not to mark the insides of the lights or touch this reflective finish.
I have had no condensation issues since opening the lights up. If you are concerned about this then it is easy enough to put down some additional silicone before resealing the units. I didn't need to as there was plenty of the stuff on mine already.

Ditto what Ben said!
I tried the breaking the lens method and it was a nightmare!
The plastic is quite soft, and doesn't shatter as you would expect, and it does scratch the reflective surface.
As you're taking the lights off to do this anyway, the cooking method will take you less than an hour.
Just remember you're only warming them gently, to soften the seal, and keep putting them back in the oven if it starts to harden again.

Ben,
the thing i like the most about the prodrive lights is the way they are black, and they contrast against the dark blue of my car. now the de tango is done it completes the effect.
and for all you who think mica red is rare, two turn up to the midland scoobies meet each month, and there were two green ones in the garage i bought mine from. i hadn't seen that dark blue before, and thought it looked really unusual with the lights and spoiler, so that was the one for me!
by the way Ben, that is easily the best bug eye!!!!
