i don't like 'em. thought about buying one, for a bit of a bargain, but at the end of the day, i'd have been kicking myself for not paying a bit more for a blob-eye, which i like a lot better.

i bought an import, and may not get my warranty, but i'm pretty sure i made the right decision.

besides beacuse the car supermarket said i would get the warranty, if it turns out i don't i can force them to take the car back, and make my choice again (or wangle a discount)

Hmm never thought looks were a reason to buy a Impreza , any of them? I mean really if you are being totally honest you buy a Subaru first and foremost surely, for what it does. Drive well, goes fast, gets from a-b quickly, reliably in all weathers. And is still a practical saloon. If you wanted a pretty Japanese car buy an FD RX7. When you are behind the wheel you cannot see it. And who cares what anyone else thinks

Default bugeye mods

I,ve had my 02 mica blue wrx bugeye for just under a year now, mods i have had done include
Eibach lowered springs,
Geometry set up
upgraded and remapped ECU
FULL, Magnex exhaust system including up and down turbo pipes
de-catted
Forge dump valve
K+N flat air filter
Colour coded Sti spoiler and Sti scoop being fitted this Thursday.
Only problem with the mods i have had done is when it goe,s for Mot i have to take it back to performance centre where i had mods done and they have to replace cat and pipes etc so car can pass Mot.

LOL I love my '02 WRX but the way subaru has treated me, I doubt I will ever buy another Subaru product. Too bad cause when my wife test drove the B9 Tribeca, she loved it.

But, that a totally different subject... IMO bugeyes are the best!

I have to say when they first came out I hated the front end.

With the JDM HID lights, not so bad, so much so, I bought an S202. The reason I purchased the beast was its uniqueness and its ability (power / speed / handling).

Looks did not really factor into the purchase. Its an Impreza (which is what I have wanted for some time) and IMHO its in the top 3 of all time, best performing Impreza's.

At the time, I could have bought a brand new STi for a grand or so more, but I went for the 2 year old, 2nd hand car!

I love the bug eye, It's my first impreza, and for the money i could of had a decent classic with a hell of a lot more mods banged on, but the bugeye suits me, i like it's curves and the way it feels too. Few mods have seen me get to 380 hp and it pulls like a train! Carbon fibre sti8 wing is on it's way too...yum yum
All in all its personal choice

Well, I've now had my bugeye for 4 days after saying to myself I would never buy one as when they came out I really didn't like the looks at all. However, I now don't mind the looks and I'm finding myself even starting to like the front end!

A much tighter driving experience than the classic I had previously and a world apart for cabin looks (the classic really does look it's age). Not as fast as the classic though but the handling does seem better as standard.

I was initially going to buy a blob-eye but couldn't justify having to spend £5k more than I did for the bugeye.

Richard.

Just for reference, and as nobody else has posted one, here is an old picture of my car with the full frontal de-tango. I personally think it looks much better now and not at all hideously ugly.

I bought the car always knowing I was going to modify it - and like any Subaru, it is a great 'base' car on which to build.

Edited to add: In my opinion 'phase 1' mods should be performance de-cat exhaust, panel filter, Eibach's with full geometry and uprated front brakes on the WRX. EcuTek 3 remap is also an option well worth consideration.

Think its personal preference, I like the classic Scoob, have been in a few round track and on the road and think they are just starting to get a little bit out-dated compared to newer cars, the interior is a major improvement, same with the standard handling......but how many Scoob's stay standard????

The thing I looked for when getting a Scoob was the best all round package, thats why I bought a brand new bugeye WRX over 3 years ago, I've since done almost 50k in it, been all over the country and abroad, used it on the odd track day and can still poodle down the shops and fill the boot up with the weekly shopping.
Not saying that the classic is any 'less' of a car, but the bugeye suits me down to the ground.
Now got a ton of mods, including decat, EcuTEK3, STi8 TMIC, Eibachs, anti-lift kit, ARB's, PFF7's and the obvious styling bits.
It goes really well, good on fuel (considering how it's driven ), really practical (5 people to the motor show in complete comfort, along with a ton of fun), and has taken me on many long haul journey's without any failures or break downs, and has been a real joy to own.......except when refilling it with fuel and eating the tyres (no fault of the car though )
Cant see me selling for a very long time, if it goes BANG, then it's getting faster!!

Ross

One thing that's not been mentioned in this thread is the safety factor in the bugeye (from the Classic). My wife was keen on me getting the newer model as it has ISOFIX childseat fittings and it would perform better in a crash.

Given that a lot of us are family folks and like the Scooby for the practicality it gives us then safety is a key selling point.

I thought mine on a previous page has had a de tango, or do i need better lenses for the front indicators?

I have no idea what de-tango is... isnt that a drink or something? You'd be surprised just how many miss the FMIC.

I'm not 100% sure if de-tango will suit my mica blue. I've looked at a couple and have not seen anyone with clear's on a DARK mica blue? Anyone?

You've got UK300 head lights have you not?

When talking about de-tango'ing the headlights I think most assume your on about removing the orange bits form the standard headlights - which is what I've done - hence the picture. Can't see any others looking back through the pages although I did notice that you'd fitted clear side makers.
