Aaah, another convert to the MattOz dark side of coal powered tosserwagens...

I went from an 03 WRX to a 51 330D Sport touring and so far am not looking back. The performance of the 330D is good, although I'm considering a tuning box just for the giggles. The handling to me is still huge amounts more fun than an impreza... The average fuel consumption sits resolutely at 42.8mpg, so I have to giggle every time I see that.

The only thing I'd replace it for is a 2003 or onwards 330D sport touring with the 6 speed box and a few more toys...

Seems the combination of fun handling, RWD and shedloads of torque appeals to scoob owners. Strange, eh?

Come the winter when I can't move and every scoob is still able to get anywhere, I daresay I'll be a bit annoyed with it, but what the heck?

Oi! Git! I resemble that remark!

Glad you're still liking it. I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's the overall package that wins the day, and you can't beat the economy that goes with it. Superb!

I have the 6 sp 200+bhp version, and I would be inclined to go straight to the 230bhp 330D E90, or even wait for the 335.......now that will be good!!!

Oh and I get 39.2 on average. Caning it!!!

Matt,

There are 2 E90 330d M Sports at my local dealers. The saloon is manual and it's the right colour but the additional spec is minimal (Xenons, Logic7) and it's nearly £34k! The automatic touring that they have is lovely, but it's spec'd up and is nearly £39k. Seems alot of money, even if you do get 231bhp and 369ft/lbs.

Having driven an E90 330i, I must say that they are very impressive. Just not keen on the looks.

Rumour has it that the 335 E90 will only be a petrol turbo and not a diesel. However, another rumour is that BMW is creating a manual box for the E90 with enough strength to cope with the twin turbo diesel torque. Could be an interesting 2006!

Just shipped my Evo mr fq340 in for a MY05 330D Sports Touring.
Reasons being sick of the fillup 3 times a week with petrol, sky high insurance, boy racers trying to race you all the time, w@nkers trying to steal it, using a anti highjack system all the time and the 4500mile service intervals.
Driving round town or slow journeys where a pain and my son moaning all the time about the back seats.
The night before I changed I really did have second thoughts but went through with it anyway. Boy am I glad.

It's a real pleasure to drive either fast or slow, in gear overtaking with the tuning box fitted is near to the Evo, (no joke) and fuel bills are quartered. I got £230.00 back from the insurance, and there's a service pack (free servicing) on the car until 2010.

I got a good price for the Evo as well (suprise) so the whole deal was painless.

I still look forward to drive the car and still blast down the b roads like I did before, so I don't miss the Evo one bit

Highly recommended.

Yep - 530d Touring is probably the best motoring decision I've ever made.

Yes the looks are still growing on me. The "got to have the latest thing" bug has now left me so am happy with my E46 for a couple of years, was thinking of maybe putting some money down on the M3 list but with fuel the cost it is I'm happy with my oil burners (have a Golf GTTdi too). Mine is manual but I sometimes wish I'd gone and found an Auto, however at the time it was hard enough buying a BMW let alone an Auto.

Compshack - came from an Evo too, I know exactly what you mean.

The 5 series touring look has grown on me... Christ, I can't believe I wrote that! And after being demolished by a 535 around Milton Keynes the other day, if they put that engine config into a 3 series it'll be exceptionally quick.

Had a 204bhp 330d touring for 14 months and thought it was an excellent car. The power and fuel consumption are very impressive but it never made me feel like getting up early on a weekend morning to go for a thrash. This is now my benchmark for any car, it must make me want to get out and drive it.

I had more fun thrashing the 330d than I did thrashing the WRX. I must admit that my rose-tinted brain is telling me that the best grin-inducing car I've owned was the MY00...
