Thats just a quick browse through autotrader, not slagging the Impreza off I just think you can have just as much fun for half the price.... OK some of the cars are not that practical, others are modified (can get std though probably cheaper) some arnt to others taste, if the impreza is too your taste and thats why you have one then great, pleased for you, but the performance and package is not the be all and end all..... so many people saying cant get better for the money, well I beg to differ.

Hence my disclaimer saying that if Cyprus Scoob was running latish 12s then I would simply concede.

Nope. Too many variables which allowed me to discredit the guys statement. Very much like the entire topic, which I guess was my point Bob.

Just to give some info on the Civic Type R EP3. The average time down santa pod for a standard car (or with at least simple breathing mods) Seems to be 14.8-15.1 seconds for the 1/4 mile. 0-60 in reall world tests on a dry day with just the driver seems to be a respectable 6.5.6.7 seconds. Of course being FWD it is held back by lack of traction off the line. It does have a good middrange and top end however. I cannot see one beating a Classic Scooby, it is more on a par with a New Age WRX. Though perhaps edging ahead from a bug eye. Though I think it would be down to the driver.

firstly hello dave from a fellow rtoc'er although i am not on there much now

firstly I know you only had a terzo which is basically a std uk car lol so its easy to know why you are slightly dismayed at the car. 2ndly i've seen your rx7 at national and nice that it is, not to my taste. you be suprised with what 60 odd bhp more difference makes, that or drive a proper sti with the dccd etc and see how your opinion differs

i still do love r5's but you can do the whole fun thing so much better these days and the truly fast ones are on slicks anyway LOL, and andy cooks 11 is impressive but even that was running the biggest slicks ever and the smallest rear wheels ever lol and no interior literally nothing bar a seat rev counter er thats it.

oh and on those choices
1. RX-7's too unknown, too juicy (i don't care what anyone says), drink too much oil. Apex seals go at 60k miles, not THAT fast std for std certainly a stock sti5 or 6 will eat one imo on the road, track or 1/4, i like them they sound the sex look the sex but not for me

2. 2.2 lotus esprit, not as fast as you think and 1992 is when lotus wern't build to a std that is erm interesting

3. evo6 yes yes nice car, but heavier than you think and std for std with a sti5/6 slower, in fact keichi tschuyia prefered the scoob with its mechanical line of approach to the evos electronic way.

4. s14a silvia common, cheap, sr20 is not the best engine in the world and certainly not cheap to tune, my mate has had to spend a packet to get his to big ish power

5. thats a s14 with a s14a rear end and s15 headlamps the guy is on the SXOC, i will say that is a fookin nice car and i'd have that i'd take the spoiler off but nice car nonetheless not rare though

6. 2.5 skylines are all single turbo LOL and its a non gt-r which won't be as good as a gt-r and everyone will say should of got the gt-r lol

7. TVR chimeara , well tvr's are sex but one of the sparks at work had one his fuel tank split and he didn't get change from 1k for a new one LOL that and he was too scared to drive it in 1. the rain 2. round bends

i do want a tvr sagaris though YUMMY

i think your point of 20k cars is very very valid though as there are a huge number of cars you could buy for that , which i admit would be as good as a sti etc blah blah

but for say 9k-11k you could get a nice mildly modded sti 5-6k with the better instrumentation etc, which would be circa 310-320bhp , at that price it makes it a whole lot more sensible at why scoobs have this following. I know cos i am on my second scoob, and whilst i have had my moments, I can't see me swapping it for anything cheaper. The noise alone and how it goes (well mine anyway) from 70-120 is nothing short of sensational. Yes there are other quick cars; i test drove a 300bhp pulsar which would be quicker than mine, i felt it was nasty; I love my impreza now and couldn't care less about the image.

Oh good to see your keeping the r5 flag flying high. They are quick but ultimately a dying breed. I will have another one , one day

Newer shape of Scoob's should avoid pretty much everything, a Punto Sporting would give one a hard time...

Classic's are the only Scooby's worth talking about, rest are overweight characterless garbage. The game has moved on anyway, most hot hatches on the move will be a least as quick as your boggo Impreza, regardless of which model. I remember going out in my friends MY97 UK Turbo and thinking how fast it felt... then I saw the speedo and realised all this torque just gave a very false impression... (only running filter and exhaust on it... still to this day). My almost standard euro box would just about keep up with it in a straight line and this is a car RR'd at 250+ bhp :S (cant be accurate surely??). Now in current spec with 2 passengers and him on his own we were DEAD level from 40 to *00 (pvt road of course), he then pulled 2 cars from *00 to *20... on my own I completely and utterly slay him.
I'd be confident of taking on 280bhp classics and level pegging them, same with Evo's... from a standing launch i'd never see them again, but it's rare you get a TLGP... well, for me it is anyway, most of the time it's just people trying to bait you into a do with them. Currently waiting for my other pal to get his M-reg RA out to play... shorter gearing on these tho, so i'll be expecting my **** handing to me... but when you think of Subaru that's what you expect... they have really let the bar drop since the Classic imo and there's too many insurance group 17 models being owned by ******* now. All Scoobs should have at least 350bhp now, either that or stop making them weigh as much as a house.

I own neither, but have had experience of both, so I have no bias towards either, Classic is just a much much better car imo. Older yes, less safe yes, but who gives a crap about that, these cars are iconic based on the success of the classic and as such it's something most people relate to more. The newer Scoobs rely on the reputation of the classic for sales, as there's no way people would buy them if they knew that the new era of hot hatches are quicker to 100 and even quicker from a roll... a 340bhp one maybe worthy, still doesn't stop it from being an overweight under performing car... and yeah, great example, which factory option was 487bhp, the 'PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP' pack, beause lets face it, it would need more than 3 P's to make it that fast...
I get the impression that the non classics get a bashing on here then? rightly bloody so too, what the **** were Subaru thinking, I mean Subaru's branding is synonymous with winning rallies and high level motorsport, not struggling to outpower small family hatches and saloons... they took a different path to Mitsi's though, they sell more cars so in that respect they are a massive success, but mainstream has it's price, in this case performance.

LMFAO @ this thread..

Ive never ever met a faster car than mine on the road.. I have NEVER been passed when on boost..

We even wasted a escort cossie with the registration 'cossie' whilst out mapping, think we only used 0.8bar too

On a drag strip is a different matter, theres allways someone quicker.. Just my wallet isnt big enough to fund the next stage of mods..

If you want another car thats quick, my fukced mondeo 1.7td will beat anyone, just because I drive it with no respect for other road users.. brings an all new meaning to road rage

Last person that didnt like my overtaking as they did 5mph over a speed bump met my rear bumper and towball when I went over the speed bump like them

Ps doesnt matter how quick your car is.. theres allways a white van behind waiting to pass.

ive been royally thrashed in my 53wrxppp by an M5 and a RS6 Avant from 70-120mph. the M5 went like an F-14 jet and the RS6 simply romped away. ive been neck and neck to 70 with the new bmw 535 Deisel sport. neck and neck with a R plate modified skyline GTR which the driver claimed it was 380bhp.

theres a vw T25 panel van in bristol with a massive AKCIDDENTO sticker on the side that beat me off the lights to 60mph
