In the last few years theres been a bit of a power race with hot hatches - loads putting out around 200bhp now, and these are generally lighter and better handling cars than impreza's.
Ok they wont touch a scoob in the wet on a twisty road, but in the dry it'd be a different story.
People forget the transmission losses for 4WD are a lot, so if you work out BHP (at the wheels) / tonne you'll find scoobs not looking as impressive as you'd think against stuff like Clio 182's.

Yep, starts to beep at around 9000 but that lasts a wee while.. don't think i hit the rev limiter at all to be honest and i would hit 42 in 1st then 70 in 2nd....
Apparently the Renesis in the RX8 is good for around 12000rpms but by this point the power is dropping off so much that there wouldn't be any point anyway.....

Was a lovely car and i do kinda miss it..... only thing tho is if you think the MPG in a scoob is bad try living with an average of about 17.....

I think the word 'Scoob' is being used rather loosely. Within the factory range itself the performance is chalk and cheese. Some are GT3/M3 CSL/355 territory and others hot-hatch territory.
Pointless saying 'x' is faster than a 'scoob' without defining the model.

a 350 spider is a non-existant car that is neither a 355 nor a 360.
seriously like a 20 year old in a £100,000 phantom ferrari cares if you overtake him. his car is worth 4-5 times what yours is (and mine)

Is it just me or does anyone else think that 500+BHP is a lot of power for a (non-italian/supercar) standard motor car from the showroom?
Dont get me wrong i'd be proud of a power figure like that but out of the box that's quite a lot, you pays your money i suppose!

Somebody commented on V6 clio's my mate has had 2, the phase 1 i could just pullled away from, the phase 2 low down i won, but at high speed his car kept pulling.
My car is a mildly modded my00 uk turbo.
He's now got an M3 E46 with SMG gearbox and it kill's my car off the mark, mid range and top end.
Just fitted a FMIC, VF34 and decat and being remapped next week hopefully i'll stand a chance against him then.

Na, You get used to it and rely on it.
An example is 4th gear in the V8 M5, u can use it from 20 all the way to 125 before needing a change or any stutturing from the engine. I'm sure the V10 M5 is gonna be even better.
Sometimes though i admit putting the power down is impossible especially when its wet, but u can never have enough power/torque.

Having a capable car is one thing and driving it is another.
I've seen STis pulling 6second and 7second runs 0-60mph.

Bob, we reckon T-uk's 340 BHP (TD05/FMIC/headers/6MT etc) classic Scooby is similar to an E46 SMG once rolling despite it having the same flywheel power, less weight and being a second quicker on the quarter. M3 has no lag, 80ms gearchanges (and fewer of them compared with a 6 speed Scooby), lower drivetrain losses (about 300 WHP) less weight difference than is apparent from the figures and no temperature fatigue.
You don't think I'd buy one if they were really slow rather than just a bit slow?

Not always about how fast you go, but how you go fast.
I couldn't care less if some highly tuned Impreza flew past me at 200mph spitting flames Might have to turn the stereo up though
On UK roads it's not easy to really go for it without the fear of points / ban. When I took my STi (ecutek, decat) out to Germany, on straight autobarhn all sorts of things were pushing me out the way at 120mph +
I remember when I was out there I got cremated by a 996 Turbo and thought to myself I just gotta have one of them. Now I got the turbo I'll probably get cremated by a RUF R Turbo. No matter what you drive you will always get rinsed, so I just enjoy what I have now

I have'nt been "rinsed" as you put it by anything yet.
I normally find that people driving high powered cars are a little wary
of giving it some incase they get embarresd (spelling).
It's normally the Golf, clio,Nova brigade that think they have something to
prove.
