Spec C 1/4 mile times???
#93
It responose to the original question......
Ran a 12.5 with a 1.6 to 60ft at TOTB in a Spec C.
Considering the lack of practice (first time dragging since 2000) for the 5 runs I got in, humungous heat soak (inlet temps were 55degs on the start line, on ly giving me 1.2-3bar as opposed to the normal 1.6bar) on the standard TMIC and no setup difference between running on the drag and the Handling Circuit (which is what it was setup for)..... me thinks there is still some left to go time wise (12 dead to very low 12's in the right conditions / setup and more practice maybe) on this standard engine with a slightly tickled turbo.
Who said newages with 6 speed boxs are slow!
Regards,
Shaun.

Hi, I went to Santa Pod a few weeks ago in my Type 25, I ran fairly consistant 13.5's with terminal speed of 102mph. I too was disappointed with this, however it was over 30 degrees C, and I wasn't giving it the fully on dumped clutch launch.

BOB'5,
I might have to join you at Avon Park from now on..... I might have caught the bug. Id love to get just in to the 11's in the current spec...... but feel that may be too optimistic. With road tyres (I had 888's on that were not really warm enough), less air in them and cooler intakes I should be able to better the 12.5 by a decent amount..... only one way to find out though. I think the ability to be able to lock the centre diff helps as well.
Martin,
I side stepped the clutch on my 1st run and smoked the clutch to buggery. I then went for the normal clutching out method and never got any hint of clutch burn on my runs after. If you feel yourself being thrust HARD in to the seat (and I mean hard) you know you have made a good launch.
Regards,
Shaun.

Dale - who is a honouary Smacs member told me his bugeye Spec C will do smack on 12 seconds for the standing qtr.
Its pushing 400bhp and 420lbs torque - but is not stripped out (yet) surely you should manage under 12 with teh mods you've done and stripping it out Shaun???

Why less weight Shaun - are you on the tubby side? no worries mate lets just say i wont be participating in a Smacs karting event that we have on the go at the moment due to my severe power to weight deficiency
Yeah Dales Spec C is unlike anything you've seen - its anally clean - he buys bits for it for underneath the car that you never see.
he told me the key to performance is all the little mods that you do after all the big stuff. when i had mine remapped, he had his done as well and lets just say a certain mr Forrest was impressed with his car.
As bug eyes go as well it looks amazing.
pity he doesn't drive it - 02 plate 9k on the clock

The Chief,
I was on about the car only.... not me!! I am 6ft 6" and weigh a manly 17stone.
Martin,
No point over reving, if your reving past the point that your car is actually making peak power. But then you still have to be sure that when shifting you don't let the revs drop too much, as to having you outside your powerband again.
Give me your T25 and i'll get it in the 12's!
Regards,
Shaun.

Just revisited this thread - even more interesting as I now have a Spec C
On the launch front I did get decent 60ft times and I have been thinking about why I haven't broken anything.
I would dump the clutch violently at around 6,000 to 6,500 rpm to make sure it did not bog. Also the ambition would be to break traction.
It was then a matter of letting the car catch up with the engine which would now be bouncing off the limiter. You need to pick your moment when to change to second - too early and it bogs, too late and you have not been accelerating.
I believe a certain Scotsman uses the same approach.
I have tried different techniques and managed to get similar times but this was the most consistent and as you break traction immediatly you are far less likely to break something on the line.

well guys i managed a 13.1 on my 1st blast at the pod v7 spec c single scrowl
288 bhp at power station standard car
hitting 103 at the line
was very happy especialy when i noticed that a new spec c at the time only made 13.5
so i had a big grin on my face shall we say sorry 57
had it remapped and de cat
and i'm up at the pod on the weekend
but a little worried that the clutch is very high! it's not slipping as of yet
but what are me chances of frying it up there
