I was a bit of girl with Defender - too many bloody buttons to press, so I used to press them all and hope for the best! Asteroids? Spin round and round in the centre of the screen firing like crazy!
I ran a Coaching Skills course recently for a bunch of production & shift managers based around Tank Pong (I still have an original Atari) with plenty of Black Jack and Fruit Salad sweets for everyone (still available from Woolies!) - course went down a storm!
On the clothes theme - any girls out there confess to ever wearing a tartan scarf tied around the wrist.....?
And boys - Piano Keyboard ties....?

The best arcade game ever was either Missile Attack or that bloody (as in your fingers became bloody after playing it) Olympics game mentioned earlier (for the I can drive on any side of the road eagle eyed ones ).
Missile Attack was great once you mastered the rolling the ball freestyle and shooting diagonal stylee .
Pacman made quite an impact when it first appeared.

Oh gosh, so many memories... "Disappearing off in the morning on bikes with a couple of mates and not coming home until tea time" seems to be the overriding thing that I loved that parents probably won't let their kids do now...
Damming streams, finding places to try and break you or your BMX trying to ride... Making a quarter pipe over 3 months with scrap, then riding it for ages... using an old school desk and a door as a ramp, putting it under a tree, and hitting your head on the lower branches...
Jumping over 8 other kids on BMXes, and taking turns to be the last of the jumped over .
Finding and playing in an old concrete bunker in the middle of nowhere. Coming back with torches to explore it properly as someone made up that there was a dead guard still in there
Older kids carrying me and my bike home when I seriously knackered myself on my BMX.
Falling in a stream then waiting for clothes to dry out before you go home because your parents would go spare. Of course they knew anyhow...
Waiting 15 minutes for Manic Miner on the C64 to load. Laughing at spectrum owners .
But the thing I think kids'll miss out on is the freedom and responsibility. Would I let my son out all day without being worried about him? I dunno, I hope so providing he's got good mates. He's 2 now, so ask me in a few years' time
Superb thread. Best. Thread. Ever.

Chucky Egg on Amstrad CPC464, the single most addictive game EVER! Still remember my Dad catching me playing it at 8.00am after an all night session and telling him I'd woken up early just to have a quick blast!!

I can remember, in junior school, playing football on a cinder pitch, with an old leather ball. And when it rained, the ball absorbed all the moisture and got heavier and heavier... Kids used to knock themselves out trying to head it...

My mates + I used to hang around in electricity sub-stations (now + then), the ones that they have in neighbourhoods rather than the big ones that come off the national grid! Pretty dangerous thinking back on it + I certainly hope that my son never does anything so daft ...
Do you remember the films that used to be shown in schools about this sort of thing ie don't mess around on farms, railway lines, sub-stations etc? They still get shown now or is it more about not using your mobile phone 24/7 ...
