Also do you remember the noise of rubbing your front tyre on your mate's back one as you're going along...
all good fun though - and it didnt even hurt!!!!
this is a great thread, and should be printed out and published in junior schools!!!!

I always remember Christmas Day, trying to program 'BigTrak' to carry a mince pie out of the kitchen and into the lounge...
Now that was a class toy

What a cool thread. Many memories. Just read the reply about clothes we used to wear.
What about "snorkel" parkas (in green or dark blue) and those "killer" fur lined hoods?
If you zipped the hood up all the way, you could not see (or hear) the car that was about to hit you as you crossed the road!!

Collecting Star Wars figures and vehicles - there was always one really spolied kid whos parent bought him everything that came out, and he had huge armies of them.
Only having one TV in your house ( or maybe a B&W portable in your parents room if they were middle class ), without a remote control.
The first Sony VHS that had a clockwork timer like on an old cooker and the remote was on a wire that never quite reached the settee.
Hearing your parents 'at it' through the bedroom door and not knowing what they were doing.
Raleigh Burners - was hugely jealous of my mate cos he had a Team Pro, which was the top of the range.
Being made to do PE in your pants and vest if you forgot your kit.
First time being sick from drinking.
First time you ever got your hand up a girls top, even though you werent really sure what to do.

BTW, back on topic, as this was about what kids don't do any more - I assure you that they still get drunk, still have sleepovers at friends' houses (and even still read the Beano) - how about this one?
Argue nightly about whose turn it is to do the washing up!

I never had one of those Parker`s I had a fawn colour Duffle coat, and I suppose every child have left their coat behind in school and was made to run like hell back for it hoping that it was still there.

Bet kids don't do any of these either.....
Hearing the hooves of the horse pulling the rag and bone man's trap, rushing upstairs and watching him come down the road shouting "Any old iron!"
Going to/from school on the bus for a 2d. return - too far to walk even then
Playing with the dead valves that the Radio Rentals man left behind after being called to fix the (B&W) telly - he seemed to come to the house every other week...
Watching England win the World Cup and the first steps on the moon live.
Watching Chelsea at Stamford Bridge - Peter "The Cat" Bonetti, Peter Osgood, Ron "Chopper" Harris, Charlie Cooke etc etc
Watching TV with Mother - Andy Pandy, Bill and Ben, The Woodentops (Mrs Scrubbit, Jenny and *****, and "the biggest spotty dog you ever did see"), Rag, Tag and Bobtail.
Getting my Grandfather (who owned a chemist shop) to bring home "Kaolin and (real) Morphine" for upset stomachs
Watching my Grandma using the mangle on the washing machine
Making a crystal radio to listen to the football results and telling my Dad them before they came up on the Grandstand teleprinter
Making a valve radio with 90v and 6.3v batteries from the hardware shop
Taking cod liver oil
Wow, am I old or what

Callard & Bowser butterscotch.
Sticking 5 Hubba Bubba bubble gum in your mouth to blow the biggest bubbles, but getting lockjaw before you could chew it enough to blow a single bubble.
Taking lunch money into school in little square envelopes.
Building forts from snow in the school playground and launching attacks on other forts, then getting into trouble after a week or so when the snowballs had become ice ***** and kids were getting cut heads from ice-ball attacks.
Using bamboo sticks to cut a path through the biggest stingy nettle patch you could find, and cursing your luck when you inevitably got stung.
Being allowed to ride on the milk float in the summer holidays so long as you helped out delivering a few pints.
Dressing infront of the gas fire in winter as it was too cold to get changed in your bedroom.
Lending one of your toy cars to a friend and getting really upset when it came back with scratches and a cracked window because the Evil Kinevil had tried to jump it over the drive.
Harrington jackets, 14 hole DM's (if you were hard) and black drainpipe trousers.

How about dialling a phone number - I mean really dialling one? I have an old phone with a dial that has been specced to work on the new lines and my little nephew simply could not figure it out!
He got really fed up when 6 numbers in his finger slipped and he had to start again!
And what about short phone codes - I remember there used to be local phone codes of one or 2 numbers and the big 01784 style numbers were only used for long distance calls.
Other games - playing 7's (throwing a ball up a wall 7 different ways!), tin-can-a-lerky(?sp) which IIR involved someone kicking a coke can really hard and everyone running off to hide whilst it was retrived.
Do kids play games that aren't on computers anymore?
(BTW if anyone wants to revisit the seaside of their childhood I can strongly recommend Mablethorpe - it even has an arcade with the original Outrun and Asteroids!)

Another thing happened this morning, which reminded me of this thread, my 5 year old was reading one of my old Enid Blyton books, and it mentioned the game "Blind Man's Bluff".
He asked me what it was and I had to tell him. In fact, we had a quick game of it after breakfast.
Imagine the PC Brigade with that one these days. Unthinkable.
