That's a strange first post!

As for budget, hopeing to spend no more than Prodrive would have charged for the PPP i.e. £1600. The largest single outlay will -no doubt- be the remap.

its just that i've got a clasic 95 wagon wrx and i wish it was faster.
but i'm just itchin to mod it.
i've been told that exhaust and airfilter and bigger turbo is the way to go.
but i was thinking of starting by changing engines to a sti one and taking it from there.
I probily should have bought sti to begin with, but this was soo cheap.
anyway i'll save this thread in favourites as i think it'll be relevent to me.

If £1600 PPP wise is purely on engine, and you really want to do the remap option, then perhaps

Full decat (but get a system that you can swap in and out the centre CAT for MOT)
ported headers
STI 8 FMIC
uprated panel filter, resonator removal
and either the ECUTEK or the PFC

Handling wise, 22mm all round with bumpsteer removal worked well for me, rear bar on stiffest setting.

Just a note to say the PFC can be set to throw a CEL if knock over a chosen level is seen, so you could save on the KL there if you wish. (I have both, mind )

good luck (P.S. I did read your copy thread on 22B- 'tis a bit slow over there sometimes!)

Thanks for that, is the Sti TMIC hard to fit? Where would you get the headers ported and how much, roughly?

Cheers,

The STI8 TMIC isn't too hard to fit to a MY99/00, a bit of DIY needed and you have to shorten the clutch resevoir I think, but not too much work. I'm sure there is a thread in here about it.

Ported headers you can get from Harvey for about £100 exchange if you don't fancy doing it yourself, although I'm sure your local subaru specialist can do it too.

I had mine ported by Harvey a couple of months ago and it cost £115 (exchange) including porting the up-pipe. See below for some pics:

In case you are interested, it took 65 ft x 2" of exhaust wrap to cover all of them and two spray cans of silver exhaust paint.

Any comments on the 2 ECU s as stated at the bottom of thread?
I always favoured Tek 3 to be done to my car ,but the Apex Power seems a better bet,esp with no need for knocklink to be fitted.
I believe more than 1 setting can be made, so it could be adjusted if the Wife was driving car? i.e.std boost.
Can it be set so boost is set lower till car reaches optimum temperature?
I would need it simple and maintenance free, esp if travelling to the mapper!

boost can be adjusted down or up yes.. 4 settings set up by the mapper.

The boost cannot be reduced whilst engine is cold.. but whilst the water temp is less than normal some timing can be removed until optimum temperature.

Talk to who ever maps it for you.

new scooby 04, can I join in this thread please as my car sounds just like what your after attaining
Subaru Impreza MY99 turbo UK (Oct '99) 4dr Royal Silver Metallic.
Ecu:
Tek 3 remap. (brd developments feb. 2005)
3 port boost solenoid (brd developments feb. 2005)
Breathing:
STi panel filter.
Standard dump valve.
ScoobySport downpipe, lagged.
BPM 3” center section.
BPM Twister 3 backbox with bung. (99db with, 103db without)
Suspension:
Kyb adjustable shocks.
Eibach springs
Whiteline droplinks f & r (grp a)
F&r strut braces.
Front camber bolt kit.
Brakes:
Ebc groved & drilled disks.
Ebc YELLOW stuff pads front, reds rear.
Braided hoses.
Exterior:
De-spoilered, de-badged and smoothed boot.
STI S201 Bonnet scoop.
OZ 17” Supertourismo alloys.
Toyo T1S 215/45/17.
PIAA driving lights.
Clear indicators.
Clear side repeaters.
Interior:
Oil temp, afr, boost gauges and knocklink.
In-car pc.

This gives me 286bhp and 294lbft. Its still on the standard gearbox and clutch, although the clutch had been changed before I got it at 20k.
I understand, from when Bob Rawle mapped it, that it was made much easier by the purchase of the 3 port boost solenoid, so maybe thats something you should look at getting?
It drives very smooth, in all gears, and is never found lagging in any gear.
I'm more than happy with it, and after recently doing the stelvio tour, found it kept up quite well with other more exotic scoobys running in excess of 300+bhp.

Chris.
