If you want to pur over Evo mag thats a nice safe way to get forum ammo but when your on the road theres no two ways about it a car is either quicker or its not.
This is fun, so I'd just like to re-ignite the thread by pointing out:

UK WRX at 1395kg / 221 bhp / 5.5s 0-60 / 15.7s 0-100
Megane 225 at 1355 kg / 225 bhp / 6.5s 0-60 / No time listed for 0-100
306 GTI-6 at 1215kg / 139 / 7.2 / 20.1
Clio

Classic Scooby 1235kg/215bhp/5.4 0-60/14.6 0-100.

Who's the daddy?

BUT and this is the critical thing, you just can't tell on the road, a few seconds advantage in 0-60, 30-70 and 0-100 times can easily be negated by who gets on the power first, caught out of the power band/off boost etc...

Make no mistake though all things being equal a classic will av you all!

Jeez this is classic. I didn't realise there were so many gullible people in the world.
How many more times can some folk be reeled in.

I'm guessing thats not a std car!
How about a Classic with PPP? Or a JDM

Regarding the gulible comment. It's interesting that Scooby owners are ridiculed sometimes for thinking that Scoobies are invincible and not listening to reason, but when you suddenly point out that they are -in point of fact- faster than some of the cars mentioned, people find that equally hard to take!

That pesky M16 is gonna take some beating though.

You see, at the end of the day, its all a bit of fun, so I don't see why people get wound up by it. Also, as Ive said about 3 times on this thread, a substantial on paper advantage can be negated by who gets the power on first etc.... That works both ways!

When I had my Audi TT 225 at the beginning of the year I couldn’t keep up with my mate’s standard 106 GTi, there’s nearly 100bhp between us, but because the 106 GTi is lighter, I struggled to keep up.

Now I can see why Senior_AP GTi-6 beat a WRX, 1st of all, its lighter then a WRX standard, then he went out and made it lighter which was probably better then sticking on go faster bits and adding a extra 20bhp, the cheapest and most easiest mod that can be done.

Best laugh I've had in ages.

The UK WRX Scoob takes over 10 seconds from 60-100mph which is beaten by many a V6 engined rep-mobile.

A certain Mr Tavia-RS in his Taxi Octavia diesel 1.9SDi?? would beat that as well.

Early 90's the Classic Scoob was untouchable for the money. Most manufacturers have moved their game on considerably in the last 10 years but the base model UK Turbo is slower than it was 10 years ago.

Some people need to stop living in the past.

Cheers

I have a 04 WRX, and I admit its quicker then most cars, but its not super quick where I would leave most cars in a cloud of dust. But that will all change in the next month hopefully, and a few trackdays will confirm it.

JCScooby, it was a new shape WRX, not a classic like yours - if you read my post before getting all aarrrhhggg grrrr angry red in the face you would have seen that point. I'm fully aware that my humble Pug isn't as quick (in a straight line) as any classic, but that isn't what I said. lol.

Cheers for your replies though, it's made my day and validified the whole point of my thread beautifuly.
At no point did i say HE was driving a classic, i simplied mentioned that i had one. If u hadnt got all aaarrrhhhgggg grrr angry red in the face u may have noticed that. Boasting about the scooby has pissed u off and that was the result i wanted. cheers mate.

Scooby owners are like cricket fans. Cricket fans will be banging on about winning the ashes for years to come. Scooby owners are still banging on about past glories when scoobies were the ultimate/only proper fast affordable car. Now most manufacturers make something better. Subaru need to up their game I rekon to keep the flame going

Yep.

But he's right as well.

Even "Warm" models like the Focus ST will be quicker than a UK WRX except possibly off the line and all for around £16k with a bit of negotiation.

I suspect that's the reason Subaru are offering a free PPP at the moment. As a performance car the standard UK WRX is looking a little average amongst the newer hot hatch competition.

Cheers

Not driven one, but if you mean the new Focus ST with the Volvo Turbo engine, but from power (and torque) to weight etc I would've thought that "warm" model is similarly quick to hot hatches like the CTR, Clio 182 etc?

Anyway, I would have thought the ultimate "Subaru humbled by ****box" would have been that infamous trackday article several years ago when Phil Bennett driving (IIRC) a standard Metro GTi 1.4 round Brands overtook a Scoob and several other allegedly quick cars. Goes back to showing that the driver is a big part of any of these equations.

Still amazing just how many people bite on these sort of posts, though. . . .

I had a 306 GTi-6 MK1 followed straight after by a MY99 UK Turbo. In a straight line from scratch wow @ the scoob - but when I got hold of the car and chucked it round a few bends I was less than impressed.
My Pug had stock setup with PI 25mm lowering springs at the front and adjusted torsion bars at the rear. It cornered like it was on rails! The scoob was no better in the slightest and understeered a hell of a lot more!
I then spent a fortune having the scoobs suspension sorted with springs, bumpsteer and droplinks plus the alignment and it was only at this point it cornered any better than my "6"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I miss my "6" now don't miss the scoob which was a P1 killer when I'd finished with it

Anyway - I'm off out tomorrow for a blatt in my 1.9 8v 205 GTi MY1990 with 76k on the clock which is far more fun than any scoob I've ever driven

*flame suit zipped firmly up coz no-one on "scoobynet" could bear to think I was talking sense*

Not really, its very quick but its like a Vtec, coming in at 4k rpm up to 7.5k rpm, I also have the longer gearing on it at the moment so flying starts can be difficult.

Its no slouch though

Having owned a 205 i have to admit it was great fun, but that was when it was on the road, it spent so much time in the garage getting driveshafts, ball joints, dampers and wheel bearings replaced it just got on my nerves. From what i hear from mates and reading other pug owners threads, peugeot still havent figured out how to make these parts properly.

Mines worked every time I've turned the key, as did the one I had before it.

And if anything does go wrong, its easy to fix and cheap

have to agree with scoobyjawa,i went from 98s gti6 lightly tuned,to my00 uk turbo standard. there really wasn't much in it.the scoob now has nearly 300bhp +306lbs torque very happy with it,but i would still have another 6, as it is totally different driving experience to scoob but just as much fun(takes rose tinted glasses off).

I'm on about my 7th Pug now in the last 10 years or so and they've all been reliable and trouble free in general.

Only had the engine problem in my current 205 but that was from the previous owner, and I found out why it was knackered later on.

Exactly what I said about 3 pages back!

Its not really surprising that people "bite" really. What is funny is when people with demonstrably slower cars on paper argue that "there's nothing in it on the road" and yet were you to suggest that there was nothing in it on the road between a scooby and a car with a similarly demonstable on paper advantage, they'd scoff.

Like a wise newbie said a while ago, a good many scoobies will give a porka a big fright to legal speeds, but we don't go on a Porshe Forum and place such "your car aint that fast" posts cause -frankly- we'd look like plonkers

at this type of thread...

My dad and brother's bigger than yours...

Only reason for a post like is to say how much bigger, better, faster, braver etc etc.. I am or my car is over yours..

I like Keane and all other music is crap...

Scoob owners own them because they like them.. If you own a 99 Pug or whatever, why reside on to a Scoob BB and slag the marque off, it probably means you can't afford the car, the insurance or simply have a chip after a bad experience.. It may mean you actually don't like the car.. which is fair enough if the argument is well reasoned..

I like red and all other colours are Gay..

It may be due to a distinct lack of maturity..

No apology and nothing personal, but it does wind me up. This type of post only serves to get people to bite at utter nonsense.

So what if there's a faster and more powerful car than mine?
So what if a less powerful car can be driven quicker because the person driving is a better driver than me, knows the roads better or is just that bit more stupid taking risks?
So what if the badge says Subaru?

I'm sure there's Ferrari & Porsche badges getting humbled by 'lesser' cars everyday.. In fact the 'Mega Scooby Post' has just that.. a well driven Porsche on a track, getting passed by a Scoob? Earth shattering news that means we should all rush to Porsche forums shouting that they're all *********, their cars are now humbled and they should rush and buy a scoob immediately?

I've also passed the odd Porsche. Am I a driving God or just someone who overtook a Porsche being driven slowly?

Anyway, you got me.. I bit.
