Why do people get so wound up over a thread??? It's only fun

JCScooby, your telling me that a 306gti driven by Colin Mcrea would still be slower than you driving your scooby on an A/B road or track??? I dont think so, the ability of the driver counts for a hell of a lot. Maybe the driver in the WRX was sh!te and seniorAP is a great driver, but what if a quicker driver comes along and hands seniors *** on a plate to him?? Just take the thread as a bit of fun! Subaru's are a great car but so is the 306gti, both in their own way

Believe it or not-ive pulled up against an Escort Cosworth(being driven by a World GT racer) in a 306 GTi6 around Silverstone-They're a wolf in sheeps clothing considering what car it is.

I can't really comment on some of the things being said on here, however the fact of the matter is that a 53 plate WRX was no quicker in a straight line than my stripped GTi-6. the WRX driver was trying.

It's just brilliant how some people simply refuse to admit this.

It's a real life scenario, backed up with the comments from Davyboy regarding our little race (GTi-6 Vs Cup) and it is backed up by stats (and we all know how scooby owners just love them stats....).

Some people hear the words "subaru" and "impreza" and immediately get on the defensive when anyone or anything dare question their status. Sorry to disappoint people, but this shift in power occured 5 years ago and it's hardly a new phenomenon.

i dont understand what the fuss about:

i had a tussle with a civic type-r, only backed of cos he nearly lost it on two corners, so i let him dissappear into the distance. He probably went back to the type-r forum and said how he whoopped and sti.

on a different day i had a tussle with gti-r. he pulled over and we had a chat, looked at each others cars and went our seperate ways.

What im trying to say is that it doesnt matter which car you got whoopped by or who you whoop. It depends if the driver is an a-hole or not, and that includes thescooby drivers

Scoobies to some extent are trading on an old reputation. WRXs are not fast cars really these days. My old 172 was a bit quickwer and the megane 225 I have now is comprehensively quicker. Obviously when you start tuning or get to STIs its a different stroy but WRXs are 212bhp? add a fair amount of weight and 4WD and its not that impressive

Yep, that's basically my point.

It's so funny seeing the disbelief and horror with replies like "no way was he trying" or "this isn't possible" etc.....

Brilliant.

i had a simular situation with a fiesta XR2!!! going along at a steady speed about 3am, see some head lights approaching fairly quick, i stick to my speed incase its a copper...

next thing i know i have a banged up XR2i level with my wing mirror! i look over and think 'he can f*ck right off', so i floored it! it was a straight road so werent putting him in danger, surfice to say he couldnt overtake me! then come up behind an old granny doing 30 in a 40 with him behind trying to get in my boot, i dont overtake as its not safe, though he seems to think it is and proceeds to overtake me and the car infront on a blind S bend!

i stayed behind the granny for a good minute or two, a soon as its safe i over take and catch the fiesta up with ease, i start to back off though when i notice his car sliding all over the place as i know i'd probaly preassure him into crashing!

i bet he still told all his mates down the pub how he 'done an sti' aswell!

He sounds a ****. End of.

The WRX in my story started it remember......I just finished it - laughing loudly. He decided to get up my bottom and prompt me into a race, probably thinking how cool it'll be to do a hot hatch in his 'rally bred supercar killer'. He's the one that stayed out in lane 2 as he was, obviously, SURELY going to get past me??!?!?!? Lol - no. Wrong. I didn't set out to beat him, but was a classic (classic - no pun intended) when I did.

New WRX's are ****e. PMSL. (refers to previous pun)

exactamundo,,,,,,,,we just all need to be the kind of drivers who will stop and have a friendly chat and not the type who will get in front even if it means risking an accident.

All you guys who have something to prove with the scoobs ,,,just go on one of their trackdays then you can play in relative safety under fair conditions ,,,no excuses ,no speculation or what ifs ,,,put ya motors to the test instead of just mouthing about them.

They really don't read post number 1 do they.....

Would somebody take the time to do so and tell me who was hell bent on getting in front in the first place??

Who was the one that moved to lane 1 when they had passed all the traffic in lane 1??

Who was the one that remained in lane 2 when he wasn't (cos he couldn't) overtake anything??

Who was the one that kept it planted even after the other had eased off due to impending required junction??

This thread just goes from strength to strength. I love it.

i was speaking in general ,there are loads of threads like this with people saying their cars are scooby slayers,,,,all im saying is why ???? if you really convinced your a scooby slayer prove it on track.

Folks are rarely willing to put their money where their mouths are because they know full well that even if they can match a wrx on track on the next lap wrx's big brother may just come round and wupp ya *** big style and they cant take the defeat.

Prove it on track?? I assume you are a relatively new user.

I know full well an STI would be quicker, was that raised in this thread by me?? Looking back, no it wasn't. what has an STi got to do with it?? An STI is not a WRX.

What I found comedic was the actions of the WRX driver and the way he went about it - when all was said and done he was no quicker, I found that hugely funny.

I think you should go back to the beginning of the thread instead of using the odd soundbite from the last couple of pages.

I see we have mentioned power to weight ratio a few times on this thread.....So lets consider this ......

If you have a caterham / westy weighing 550KG and with 180bhp you know full well its going to be damned fast on acceleration, probably 4secs to 60MPH and 9secs to 100MPH. Evereybody accepts that and thinks wow they are impressive, the daddys etc

If you have a 205gti weighing 850KG or a 306GTi-6 weighing maybe 950-1000KG with the same kind of power than people suddenly ignore power to weight and think its got to be slower than a 220bhp jap car.

The fact that people respect the caterhams of this world, yet cannot accept an older hot hatch is probably because the hot hatch is what they sold to buy their scoob/evo, so in their mind there is no-way on earth it could ever match their new stead .....

Gary

I lost my thoughts of having the fastest damned car in the world when I followed a MK2 golf GTi through Hatzenbach (Nurburgring) waiting for the ensuing straight only to watch it dissapear off into the distance quicker than I could dream off. My 329bhp was about as much use as a choclate tea pot.

Yep, as I said earlier (as I think we all said). You live, you experience and you learn.

This for me is the prize winner though (said in a Vicky Pollard from Little Britain sort of tone):

"Yeah but no but you beat a WRX yeah but my brother who's ******** Tiffanny yeah he's got an STI and he reckons he'll **** all over you and Jamie got Tasha pregnant".

Yeah but the next lap a fully spec'd 306 Rally car might come out and beat you!! Same manufacturer as my Pug isn't it, that's the point here....surely?? lol.

If that's the case, you could say how your mate beat my mate's BMW 318, but the next lap my other mate came out in an M3 CSL and whooped you. That's how silly that sounds.

We aim to please.

My point is valid though, as what was being said was as equally as absurd.

I'm talking specifically about a guy in a WRX that tried to race me and couldn't even get past. As title "WRX humbled by ****box".

Nothing more to it.

We did that

A lot of people never talk about about that damp day (wet twisties) in Feb 2005 at Bedford, some even fail to acknowledge that a Clio was even present....they are still in denail to this very day.

Seems to be theres several on both sides that need to grow up a little and move on from playground pissing competitions.

Every year I go (in my slow old UK WRX) to Le mans with a varying group of cars - all in the just below 200 to mid/high-200 bhp bracket. And they're all frankly much the same. Invariably the key difference in their ability to make ground quickly in the real world (i.e. auto-route and then overtaking through 100Km of single carriageway road) is the driver. Either skill - or willingness to drive like a **** depending on point of view.

But for the example given in post 1. If I was "enjoying myself" with an old pug coming off a roundabout I'd be unlikely to immediately pull over and follow the car in front into the inside lane. not because I exepcted to blast past - simply tailgaiting into that lane would (in my mind) be a more aggressive / less safe way to play together.

The older, lighter weight hot hatches no doubt have lots of fun. However I cant quite see how the megane 225 is "comprehensivley" quicker than a UK WRX. My copy of evo which happens to be next to me has :-

UK WRX at 1395kg / 221 bhp / 5.5s 0-60 / 15.7s 0-100
Megane 225 at 1355 kg / 225 bhp / 6.5s 0-60 / No time listed for 0-100

Cant quite see how they come out as anything other than "broadly similair" ???

For comparsion they have
306 GTI-6 at 1215kg / 139 / 7.2 / 20.1

We I'm more one for getting out on the roads and actually having a freindly bit of a gas with scoobies or whatever, one of my neighbours has a WRX for your information, we take them on the local bypass you guess the result, theres quite a lot of difference between them. If you want to pur over Evo mag thats a nice safe way to get forum ammo but when your on the road theres no two ways about it a car is either quicker or its not.
