I've got an 03 STI and the rear suspension rattles and seems to settle after stopping. It's in my local dealer today having the rear struts replaced( and having prodrive springs put on whilst they've got the struts off ) Good news is that Suburu are paying 50% contribution to the struts/labour as Goodwill warranty claim.

 

Has anyone tried lubricating the dampers to see if that cures the sticking or is that a .

I read somewhere (might have been here somewhere) that cos the dampers are upside down type that the seal/ slider doesn't get lubricated. TBH it sounds a bit unlikely, but a worth go ???
