I was seriously considering debabdge, but it's a subtle badge so decided it could stay.

If I ever get to a position where my mileage is low enough I'm going down the M3 route with a 320D badge on the back.

David that looks very nice - i am green with envy. That 'running in period' will be a painful one with that 7000rpm redline looking at you - lol

Think the quad-exhausts, wide arches and M3 side-grille might just give the game away

Interesting, I wasn`t aware that VW / Merc / Nissan or Ford made a 3.0 litre straight six engine, it really is in another league isn`t it?

Never driven anything above a 2.5 BMW six but the lower ones always seem a bit slow to get going and when they do, just when you think you are on your way the rev limiter kicks in. Nobody else really does an inline six (in anything small) for packaging reasons, only practical with RWD in a large body.

David,

Looks fantastic. I drove the 330i at Rockingham and that was fabulous. I imagine that in the 1 series that motor will be a riot! If you're local to me (Warwick) we'll have to meet up so that I can have a butchers.

All the best
Matt

Was that real mph or 'speedo' mph? I think a true 168 would equate to 180plus on a speedo in most road cars

You're forgetting that half of the motorway warriors haven't a clue what the car is in front without the aid of a badge.

The 130i got a very average review in Autocar a few weeks ago. They are ugly and (IMHO ) don't look 'special' enough to warrant the huge price they command new. I reckon the residuals won't be that fantastic on the 1 series, just my gut feeling as they are not an attractive car. So many more 3 Series on the market if you want a 2nd hand Beemer.

I've decided to get it after test driving the 120d (to sample the chassis) and the 330i (to sample the engine).
It will deliver in January - February (I have to wait for the end of year bonus ) and will look exactly like this (same color, M-pack body kit and suspension, wheels):
