Couldnt get any Super Unleaded for my 04 WRX last week and thought I would fill up with 95Ron unleaded, Never again will I fill up with that ****e petrol, put my foot down expecting the turbo to kick in, and it felt like there was no turbo at all,The cars performance was affected badly, even though my car is mapped for 95Ron, its waste time putting it in, try and get a big box full of octane boost If you cant get super unleaded.

and by the way, i think another thing is that i think you give yourself a false sense of security over there, no det on knocklink when runnin with optimax so you just drive the absolute sack out of the car, like i said before there must be some reason for everyone i know with scoobs who aint got blown engines!? and dont bother replying saying they probably drive like grannies etc etc heard it all before

flat4 ire, I'd give up if I were you. Common feeling over here is, ' run on Optimax or suffer the consequences'. Your and your mates experiences are fine for them, but your message is falling on deaf ears here.

No point getting angrier and calling people names. The received wisdom in the Uk is Optimax or nothing. AND they do run better on it and give more mpg.

Kind regards David

He was talking about having his car mapped to run on 95Ron, My 04 WRX is mapped to run on 95Ron unleaded, and when I do fill it up with it, the car seems like it is under performing, I was giving my opinion on what I think his car would be like if he had it mapped to suit 95Ron.

from what i hear optimax is 98ron which is good, u can use booster if u want for piece of mind, she "should" be ok with 98 which is even better than super unleaded, how does the car feel?

There is no clear answer but IMO optimax alone is sufficient. Your best bet is to fit a knocklink so you can see for yourself what YOUR car runs best on.
My car runs ok on optimax alone.

if i drive it hard through the gears there doesnt seem to be as much boost in 4th and 5th (ie from a standing start).

but driving at say a steady 70 ish in 5th and put fut down it goes like a rocket.

Octane no harm. But think you should be fine. Fit a knocklink and that'll cure all your worries.

hear ya, 98 should be grand with the 95 wrx man, if you plan on going mod crazy then think about buying better fuel, i run with 114ron and 95ron, seems to be a very good mix..i dont drive mine every day though..dont be hitting her off the limiter and all that craic ok

i havent got a knocklink myself but it shows up on my commander for the apexi ecu, basically the knocklink is fitted in ur cockpit so u can see if your engine is creating any knock/det, normally if u get a bad batch of fuel, there are lights from green up to red, if she goes into the red then she is knocking so if u see red then back off the accelerator, ya know?

Ive got a 93wrx, ive had it for 5 years ....... ive only been associated to scoobynet for 3 years. before then, i had a completely standard car, and i run normal 95ron unleaded, and the car behaved ok.

Since coming to scoobynet, i got the modding bug, etc. i started using optimax, only after a bad oil change some 12months after switching to optimax, i lost the big end bearings on my car.

Ive read the numerous threads on here about fuel etc, and while i wont disagree or disrespect anybody, i had run 95 ron ok. optimax IS best for your engine, i have friends who work at Stanlow Oil refinary, and Shell Global where all the research is done ......... so i get to hear a bit about it, ive also seen first hand some of the tests theyve run. i personally get more mpg with optimax - but over the past couple of weeks i refused to pay over £1/litre, so i switched back to normal 95 ron.......... ive got a remapped ecu, and decat, and i can get 1.5 bar boost - the car runs fine, ok- mpg suffers a tad, but equally im more conservative with the right foot, and dont give too much boost unless i have too....... i 'think', to say dont boost - is a bit oTT, a short burst aint going to kill it -

In all fairness, if these cars are so temperamental about fuel, etc, they should almost come with a health warning from Subaru - even in Japanese it should be clear
"Dont use anything less than 98ron"

My point is , dont dis people who state their own facts and experience - whether you like it or not, i run 95ron for 2 years trouble free. Im sorry if you think thats a fairy story - it aint.

But now, im a Optimax convert..when its less than £1/litre.but thats a different issue.

You were critisized for advsing someone that running their 1995 WRX on 95RON fuel would be perfectly alright. Irrespective of whether other people have got by, this is still poor advice. I dont doubt for a moment, the truth in what youve said; but I dont think that you should advise others to do it.

Went on holiday recently and drove down to heathrow from brum to leave the car aty the hotel for the two weeks i was away, its a my00 jdm wrx wagon with 32000 miles and was told it has always been run on optimax since its beenin this country, which is 4 years now,and i always have done, whilst i was away i read the reports about the intended fuel protests and the poss that there may a shortage on our return, knowing there wasnt enough fuel left in the tank to get me home i was a little concerned as to where i could get some fuel from,as it happened there ddnt seem to be a shortage problem, but i didnt know where any shell garages where,or even where any fuel supplies whereas we were very close to the motorway, and not wanting to take the chance of trying to reach the next services and run out in the process i decidd to fill up at the first available source, which turned out to be a texaco garage which had no sul at all, only regular unleaded..... **** !! had no choice but to fill up,but i drove like a fanny all the way home, never took it over 3500rpm,nothing seems to be amiss, refilled as soon as i could with optimax, and now carry some octane booster in the boot in the event im again unable to fill up with the right stuff.... a lesson learned hopefully with no lasting problems, but i think as i didnt boost the car to any great degree it should be ok on the inferior fuel,i certainly wouldnt consider driving it on 95 on a daily basis......... im not as lucky as some who find it to be ok

Why don't you get back in your hole !

All you seem to do is insult people when they dissagree with what you say.

If you can't take constuctive critacism (dowt you know what that means).

Then dissapear.
