BEAT BY SEAT CUPRA R

Yes but if you want mid-range pulling power for those sorts of roads, you'd be much better of with a 150bhp Golf TDi or a BMW 3.0d? Plenty of torque for the m/ways and better fuel economy.
I've never driven a 4WD car before and I find it a bit of a revelation - it just grips and grips, which I find much more enjoyable than straight line speed.

However we do have a lot of long straight motorway/dual carriageways here in the uk and with 275hp through the fronts its going to take a a good car to beat it.
275hp through fronts is circa 235-240 @ wheels for instance!
275 through 4wd and you'll be lucky to see 200 at wheels!

The Impreza was not designed for straight line racing on smooth surfaces at high speed - it really is that simple.
It's like all the remapped diesel owners who come on here boasting about how they 'beat' an Impreza on the motorway over some narrow range of speed. The car was built with a very different purpose in mind and in those situations the odds are often stacked in favour of the opposition from the beginning.
The car has limitations - to be expected.

The majority hovering around the 275 mark are around 180 @ wheels so i doubt your figures tbh.

And here's another page just incase you thought they were bollocks results...
Your figures seem very strange compared to around 50-75 scoobies shown in the above links! Perhaps a dodgy rolling road?

i think your wrong there mate. I have an 05 WRX with the PPP fitted, and my mate has the 05 Cupra R, soon after the running in period, we went down to York Dragway, the best time he could pull was a 14.35, where as mine made a 13.91, now that maybe down to driver skill you might say, but even on the road, mine still has the legs on his....

Has his car been remapped? If so, i would guess it comes down to drivers at the end of the day! A 275hp/300lbft FWD car on move should take care of an sti with minimal fuss! It would take the sti ppp to pull a couple of lengths on a remapped R
There are many cupra R's across on the SCN forums that claim to have wiped the floor with the 265bhp sti versions!
1/4 miling has a large amount of driver input into getting good times! You should easily have him on the launch! Its very tricky launching big power through front wheels!
Its on move performance 60-140 where an LCR will shine! Due to its nature its never going to be a monster off the line.

as i said in my post, he cant even touch me on the motorway, cant find the thread now, but on the R forums somewhere, some guy was talking about the standard WRX's, so many on there claimed to have left many scoobs for dead. But this one guy happened to come across a ( i quote ) POVERTY MODEL White WRX with a silly private plate...
Needless to say, he couldnt believe that he in fact had run out of legs and i managed to outdrag him. that was from 50mph to XXXmph.
So im sorry, but unless i come across an R with the REVO or the likes of fitted, getting BEAT BY SEAT CUPRA R doesnt even enter my mind

Yes but your car has the PPP, i take it his is a bog standard 225? It must be if he cant touch you on the motorways, but i find that hard to believe tbh!
Remap the LCR and i very much doubt you keeping pace at all!
The new shape WRX is not a fast car, it can easily be beaten by the majority of todays hot hatches! Its not just cupra R's, its civics/clios/golfs/astras etc
A lot of scooby owners still have the nineties mentality in there head. The scooby used to be a fast car in its time! Today it is very ordinary!
(excluding the limited edition WR1/Spec C/Type 25 scoobs of course but the run of the mill WRX and sti versions are very ordinary cars in todays terms)

i know its late mate, maybe i didnt clearly state it, the car was me, it was my reg plate he wrote down. standard wheels, little spoiler, no badges on the car anywhere...
As for the weight, with me inside, my car weighs 1410kg, my car was the 225, now 265, ie, the same as the STI Type UK.
and yes, it is the cupra r , in "out of the box" trim, like most on the road

when you say beaten, in what way, off the mark, i cant see any of the full range of cars from the ones you have listed above beating them off the mark, keep up with possible, beat, i dont think so. Maybe the Astra VXR, but that aint on the road yet is it..
in out the box form, the standard WRX is still a quick car in anyones terms, i think what your trying to say is that many other manufactures have jumped on the wagon and also pruduced quick cars.
just out of interest, what do you drive?

Sorry i shouldn't have used the word easily beaten as that is an exaggeration!
I mean it can be easily matched midrange and with the majority of the FWD hatches gain ground on the WRX. I dont mean from standstill mate as i doubt any hothatch beating a scooby off the line! I mean up and running (60+ performance)
I have a 320hp LCR (275 @ wheels)

we will probs never know the answer to this one so i think we will have to agree to disagree lol

I don't really bother with all the hot hatches, LCR's, CTR's etc etc. If it's up and down the normal roads in Scotland (ie not M/ways, Dual carriageways), the wifes WRX PPP destroys them, since they lose forward motion with a lack of traction over rougher roads. If it's on that style of road, I'm usually in my GT-B, and same story, it's just they have no idea what's passed them.
Burty, get a full decat exhaust and TEK 3, Prodrive springs to get it on the road right, learn to drive a bit and go kick some ***.

I'm with the 4WD clan! It's all fine and well owning a LCR that puts 275bhp through its front wheels from 60-120mph on the m/way but who's interested in that?
Put it up against a 4WD equivalant through some twisty's at 60-120mph and you'd be left behind. Add to that a cold, misty morning with greasy roads or in the wet and you'd have trouble keeping up with the local postie on his pushbike!!!
I appreciate what your saying about high bhp front wheel drive cars but look at the Alpha 146 GTA. Nice looking, mentalist, car but with that amount of understeer going round corners, who'd want one????

They do amuse me threads like this - all these hot hatches being bought out now are designed to have impressive figures on STRAIGHT LINE SPEED only ! It isnt that hard to design something to go fast in a straight line - you put a big engine in a small, light car and its done - power to weight ratio is as important as bhp.
The E-Type was doing 150mph in a straight line in 1961, but I woudlnt want to drive one around a corner quickly ( hence them being so popular in the USA )
The Impreza has been developed alongside the rally car, and rally cars arent built to go fast in a straight line - in the hands of a good driver, on a racetrack or road with corners, where maxing the top speed isnt an issue, not much will keep up with an Impreza - anything with 2WD will be a long way behind.
In future, only race people around roundabouts and then you wont get upset !

sorry to upset any new age wrx drivers but they are not fast cars when they are above 60. just have a look at the figers 60 to 100
ctr 10.62 sec
focus rs 9.90 sec
cupra r 10.o4
wrx 11.70
of the line and round the bends and in the wet the wrx would win but when rolling they are pants. just be happy with what u got a great car. but not that quick with out mods

Andy f's car in a straight line recorded 199.4mph yesterday, that sounds pretty fast in a straight line to me!
I think it was 9.82 @ 144mph over the quarter mile too. It also seems to go round bends incredibly fast.

WRX PPP 8.7 (that's me allowing for a 0.5 second shift change in there as well)

I done one of them in my remapped diesel. He didn't look happy. All on a smooth surface with a few very high speed corners thrown in for good measure. Just like 99% of the available opportunities for such antics. Even the traffic light GP shows the Impreza up, too much turbo lag, innit. Unless of course you like losing your licence..................

The figures seem v wrong. Whats your reference?
I'm not supporting the scoobs in this btw as a Cupra R is more than a match for a bugeye.
