I think a lot of you have fallen into the "Dream Garage" thread
Its cars that no-ones heard of save for real enthusiasts. Half the stuff listed above has been in Max Power/Fast Car etc in the last 18 months so is discounted because everyone knows about it.
For me, the criteria is a car that is very fast/ good handling/ the best of a particular range, but no one ever thinks of buying. I even discount the E30 M3 because loads of people have heard of them. The "Evo-ness factor", but not a car thats hugely popular. Unusual stuff. Cars only the respective owners club really care about. But still remain a car you should at least drive once.
Audi RS2
911 Carrera RS 2.7
Brabus Roadster (yes really)
Merc 500E
NSX
EDIT
Audi S8
Merc Cosworth 2.5 Evo

lancia integrale, lots of money for an old car that will fall to pieces, primitive switchgear/interior, rock hard suspension, fast&handle with a wheel at each corner, b'stad of an engine to work on, lhd only, iconic&well respected, look hard as nails but the car was designed to win rallies thus it's flared arches etc are not for show but are for functionality.

e30 M3 cabriolet *rare as rocking horse *****
its a bmw I know but if you ever get an oppertunity to have a go, jump at it, the only down side for me was the fact it was a lhd.

Whats the point in a Homolgated race car having the roof cut off. If you want to "race" buy a normal M3. If you want to lesuirely crusie around and occasionally blat it. Buy a 325i Convertible. The S14 3.2 engine is very buzzy and not really what you need in a convertible. Its a truely pointless car, and I have a mate with one.

but the question was:
and the e30 m3 cab is a factory car, most people such as your self discount them because they have had their roofs cut off, which makes the point imho!
a very serious car, hardly ever seen for sale!

Ferraris are wonderful but I always think it either a lottery winner or a complete poser apart from a few models.

Car on the left was sold in July. IIRC he got about £8K for it

It doesnt give off the right vibes though. Any enthusiast will say what Ive said
and as a result not buy one. Its not a good car simply because its rare

Great cars though.....bit heavy mind
I have to agree on the subject of M power cars with no roof, complete contradiction, I am sure they are nice but its like wearing trainers with a suit. So for the purposes of this thread I wouldnt put them in this category, to much chance of the owner just having to order the most expensive. I have read that BMW M power build the cabrio version cos they have to due to demand and management wont ignore demand. I think that the Touring M5 is closer to the M power Ethos than the cabrios.
No come on... the E30 M3 is a proper enthusiasts car. Sure when they first came out they would have been driven in part by wealthy posers etc... but now.
1. They are only in LHD so most people won't touch them unless they really want one (i.e an enthusiast)
2. They are relatively rare
3. They are considered underpowered by many people now and don't have the low down torque of many newer cars
4. They aren't expensive but you need to know how to look after one cost they are 15 years old now
I don't think you get many people driving E30M3's except proper enthusiasts

He wouldn't happen to have a yellow R34 GTR now would he? I know who you mean if he has.

Looks GT2 Style'd, but not wide enough at the rear for it to be one? no doubt a turbo though.
Oh and, to add, how about the 205 T-16 Turbocharged, widearched, funky styled 205!
also agree on the TVR's, give off all the rite vibes and sounds!

This is assuming a "Serious Motor" is a car that demands SERIOUS commitment and GIVES SERIOUS enjoyment. No AC/Power Steering/Assisted Braking here.
