Did you get out ok afterwards? Lucy and I did a detour via Leicester but upon return the Police had the road closed somewhere near the crossroads on the A5199.
How did everyone's tyres fare? My T1S's were seriously ragged, and am wondering if it'd be worth sticking some secondhand slicks on my trackday wheels?
Brake pads ... My redstuff ceramics (and Dot4 fluid) were okish but suffering towards the end, whereas Adam and Mike had a v.good experience with Ferodo DS3000's and Dot5.1. Recommendations anyone?
see you next time,
Andy

Thanks for inviting me on this one stormy, and big thanks to ollie for keeping my son amused on the mini track while I was out
Really enjoyed the day, and will try and get down for another next year. Really enjoyed going sideways, then backwards in my car, and I think mike was laughing at me grinning from ear to ear afterwards
Bbq was lovely, and even filled up my son, which is not easy to do!
See you all again, hopefully next year,
chris.

Tyre wise use old tyres, Slicks will give you too much grip on the surface at Brunters, however if they are cheap then why not. Depends if you are setting the suspension up or just want to throw the car around. The instructors commented how well your car was set up.
Brake wise not sure of your set up so here is what id do. I reckon your fluid was getting a little hot (cant work out why :-)
Swap out two pots for 4 pots (could be Subaru items 2nd hand). Est £250
Fit upgraded discs, Pagid, Tarox G88 or EBC Est £250
Fit Tarox fast pads, Mintex 1155 (bit noisy) or DS2500 personally dont rate EBC. Front and rear. est £85- 125 for fronts £65 for rears
Then would go for braided lines and DOT 5.1 Fluid. est £65 for lines £12 for fluid
Next step would be a big brake kit using 4 pot calipers i.e Godspeed 335 kit
est £650 for 335 kit (335 discs on alloy bells caliper extension bracket and caliper spacers and Mintex or Ferodo pads). If you want grooved rear discs and pads add est £185.
or
Brembo caliper and discs on bell set up. Est £850
or
Full AP set up. Est Front only £1150ish for early WRX
See you soon

Not a problem Martin, sorry to have to help you out. Good to see you again
Oh by the way cheers for the CD, Now Ive been around the ring in just under 9 mins seeing a 8 min lap in the Specie looks a whole lot quicker, cant
get over the drivers steering inputs.
Cheers Mate cheered up this mornings log at work no end.

Thanks for the list of brake options - v.useful and the Godspeed kit sounds pretty good value. I'd like to keep to 310mm disks if I can though, so I can still use my forged 16" Rays (which weigh 14kg including tyre compared to 17kg for my 17" Rotas, or 16kg for my standard 16" twinspokes). Ally calipers would be nice; I couldn't believe how heavy those pig-iron two-pots were, so I stuck 'em on the scales and they're 5kg each!! Standardish disks without separate bells are heavy too (5kg again) so that's more unsprung weight that's not altogether necessary.
Question for anyone/everyone on tyres ... mine are quite deeply rutted now and all the sharp edges are nibbled away. Is this normal for a T1S run at 36psi on a classic on the Bruntingthorpe surface? The Kumhos on Adam/Mike's 205 fared much better, but that's a lighter 2wd car with less power. My curiosity comes from my bike racing days, where you get just small rolls of rubber across the surface if the suspension is working well (like the 205's Kumhos), and deep ruts if it isn't. Weight is a factor, for the bikes at least, with the lighter being much easier to optimise than the heavier one.
cheers
Andy

Andy Directionals always seem to suffer at Bruntingthorpe especially in the dry I run non directionals so at least I can rotate the wear in parallel the tread bands seem to resist tearing. Directionals like T1s F1 superb in the wet
but unless you move tyres between rims you can ruin a tyre very quickly.
Sad fact scoobies are heavy, other option is fit harder compound tyres like the Kumho 712 which I have used before for road use and abuse. However ultimately they dont heat up like F1 and T1s so in the wet they are not quite as good.
Me Ive brought some Bridgestone RE70s with big tread blocks that dont seem to tear for dry days and the Summer. In parallel have a set of Jap Bridgestone T01Rs which were superb in the dry but aweful in the wet, those are nearly finished so a set of T1Rs or F1s will replace those for the winter and wet trackdays.
More camber does help with reducing wear on track but in parallel obviously when used on road I find the inside scrubs out and the steering is vague straight ahead. Obviously as you corner the steering feels great.
My set up is Spec C suspension including new arms to induce camber and to move the whole assembly forward.
Have added a anti lift kit, 22mm roll bars front and rear with -1 camber on front, -1.4 on rear. Front toe +0.03 Rear toe +0.05.
Next step will be fitting AST.
Meanwhile drop ian godney a line at Godspeed he may be able to provide you with a package to suit your needs with 16's pretty sure he does a AP and Brembo set up for 16"s with his discs to match.

It is quite a lap , I think the word is 'commited' . Have you watched the two 911's running convoy (nurburg lap 1 & 2 ) ? They are not hanging around .
Andy916 ,
My bridgestones look like they've been sandblasted , much worse than anywhere else I've been !
Cheers ,
Martin .
