i didnt ask about your RS, i asked about your first car so you might aswell give up now, you obviously knew it was a nail and so you moved onto your second motor, face it fella, for a first car you cannot slag what I've achieved, who knows where ill be in ten years, you've had a lot of time to move on. Im hoping to be in a nice car myself in a matter of years as I work for a contract hire company providing everything from peugeots to porsches and theres always something available and within my price range

nice car mate

Ignore the self indulgent, Scoobs-r-quicker-than-owt brigade, it's a nice motor, looks the biz.

You'll find a lot of **** on here, please ignore, it's usually a great place and a fountain of knowledge ot any Scooby owner, newbie or veteran.

Jeez, I remember when we all respected each others motor, be it Scooby, Evo, Integra or whatever...

Ah well...

LUCKO – When I first started driving an RS Turbo was my dream car. Was yours a series 1 or 2? Mate had an XR3i and I drove that a couple of times. Never got to drive an XR2 unfortunately but that was a good first car.

If I were to be critical on the car I’d say it’s the doors that stick out. Need filling and smoothing on the top line. It is a job well done though and I don’t think the body kit is a problem. If it had been one of the classic fords (RS’s etc) then I would agree but I think the kit has made it look a lot better. The geezer should be damn proud of that motor.

Any interesting work done on the CTR?

I'm 14 and my first car is a motorbike engined Locost I'm also learning to drive in my dads scoob.

Its not to my tastes but I can see the effort put in, and it all looks top quality rather than stuck on with masking tape.

Hiya mate.

Like a lot of people have said on here already, ignore the ones that try to bait you. That is what most are after so that they can sit back and laugh at you making a tit out of yourself. Don't rise to it. Just respond by saying 'Thanks' and move on. Dont get caught up in a 'My D*cks bigger than your d*ck' competition! Remember: Their mother probably didn't hug them as a child!!

I like what you done, and as you said, the lexus lights do let it down, but other than that, it looks like a job well done.

I hadn't even passed my driving test at 18! and my first car was a Opel Kadett!!! Double

You make the most of what you got/can afford! If you have done most of the work, good on yer!! More than I could do!

I drive a MY00 Turbo wagon and you wouldn't believe the amount of snobbery that goes on in the scooby world. For all intents an purposes it the same as a saloon turbo but with a fat ****!! But I still get classic saloon/bugey/blobeye owners look down there noses at me! Don't bother me, mine is as fast as any other non modified scooby. Also I am not able to get my 6ft snowboard in the back of a saloon!

It doesn't matter what car you drive, as long as you are happy and enjoy driving it, that's all that matters!

Have a good un!

acooby kid, you've got my wrong fella, im not saying i expect people to love it, some people will some people wont, what I mean is, why cant people just use constructive criticism instead of down right sarcasm? as for the scoob being a waste of money, you're taking the p*ss, scoobys are renowned for having them on. dont come out with the "well my car runs 280bhp and yours is half that " bullsh*t, at the end of the day if they didnt do anything they wouldnt make them, albeit not as much as on an impreza but as I have already explained, my plans were for a zetec turbo conversion until someone keyed my car. In my position at 18 years old what would you have done? You have a car on your hand that has 500 poundsworth of damage and a bit of money saved up. I could of either:

A. sold the car, struggled in the process and lost money

B. stood the repair at £500 and cut my savings significantly which at my age £500 changes a lot as you'll all remember when you were younger, wages just arent the same.

C. run the engine conversion in a car that needed repairing and would rust in the mean time as it had gone below the base coat

or D. done what I did, Ive already explained my choices and reasons for fitting the parts that I did and all I expect is a bit of respect for my time and effort at my age even if its not to your liking, theres no need to look down on me and insult me. Months of my life have gone into it through working and saving and some people just dont seem to give a sh*t.

"If I were to be critical on the car I’d say it’s the doors that stick out. Need filling and smoothing on the top line. It is a job well done though and I don’t think the body kit is a problem. If it had been one of the classic fords (RS’s etc) then I would agree but I think the kit has made it look a lot better."

^^^ that is constructive criticism, Im happy with that

And then you get the d*cks like lucko and scotty trying to call me a chav. come on then fella, what makes me a chav? the lexus lights? Am I doing it to follow a crowd? no im doing it because it suits the eurostyled back end, come on what else have you got to throw at me? You're calling me a chav for making my car look unique, just because im spending my money differently to you guys for a very good reason, insurance, that makes me a chav? Its like lucko, im not havin a dig here but you're telling me at 18 year old you had an RST running a 5th injector etc etc, to run a fifth injector it must be putting out some quite big power as far as a 1600 CVH goes and you're telling me it was all insured legit with all mods declared? Now you try insuring an 18 year old on that nowadays, it aint possible, THAT is the reason why ive done what ive done to my car, I couldnt even get insured on a stadard RST nevermind a modified car. Why? cos the REAL chavs have been writing their cars off round lamp posts all round the country, is that my fault? gimme a break for f*cks sake. Ive had three people already PM me to tell me of forums elsewhere that're a lot more welcoming for scooby owners, what does that tell you?

well done tilly not to my taste, can understand why u have the vent by ur posting, but im more a function rather then a look person, best of luck with ur mods, but i think u should save whatever money u get and get turbo model. my 1st car was a mk11 golf diesel van, but i saved and have a bugeye now. and irish insurance is higher and harder to get.

i think you mean scoop not scoob(?), and I meant the whole car was a waste of money. Regardless of my opinion its a shame about the w@nkers that keyed it...i recon i would have bought a 106Gti or similar and had a fun thing to drive which i could perhaps modify to make faster...

Been reading this with interest.

Tilly - You've posted intelligently, knowledgeably & eloquently and have obviously given a lot of thought, time and energy in getting the result you want.

For these reasons alone you are definitely no chav and the comments mentioning that are a big insult to a young lad making his way in a world full of disrespect (as shown very well here).

You're unfortunate to be moving in a world where chav cars abound and you are always going to be tarred by the same brush.. But at 18, your desire to be unique is a good example of someone breaking that mould and for that you should be applauded.

Certainly don't let a few adverse comments, brought on by ignorance and a lack of courtesy, bring you down. Some may not like the whole effect (I'm not keen on the scoop, as this leans toward scoob wannabe, but as this is exactly where you want to be then it's a forward thinking touch ) but we haven't spoken, I don't know you or your way of life so I'm not in ANY position to pass non-constructive comments..

Just keep doing your thing mate..

Oh god.. Dire..

It doesn't even look like a modded escort Cos.

Didn't read page two until now...
Edit to add, only my two pence worth, not looking to diss your style just not my idea of what a modded car should look like.

trails.... Id love to have a 106 gti mate but how? it wont happen, the 106's are a group 13, the saxo VTS's same engine group 14, now I know you're going to say the impreza is a group 13 but you've got to remember its a year on now from when i started driving so insurance is a tad easier but still not much, they wont insure me on the gti but the impreza they will. Silly i know, its the same insurance group but they all come out with the same comment, "the 106GTi is a Cat B Performance car blah blah" and the impreza isn't apparently!

As I've explained, I searched for weeks working out what was the best car for me that I could get insurance on, at first I didnt want anything too small and cramped but the gti would've been an exception if i could get insurance, I also wanted something that was moddable or had known conversions about that were accessible, for eg. the escort could be converted to a 2.0 for pennies simply with the engine from an old mondeo, easy to source or even just the bottom end as the heads are the same for an instant 136PS which is about 133bhp. However, the focus came out on top, i think... the 2.0 was a group 8, it may have been a group 9. It was within my reach insurance wise, but I only had 2k to spend on a car and I needed to be driving for work. So i opted for the escort, it was the quickest and most tunable car I could buy at the time and with it being an 1800 I wouldnt have to get rid a year down the line because I could run a turbo conversion using Mk5 escort, RST and focus RS parts. It was also the exact same as the GTi bar a few tiny differences, the sideskirts, half leather and badge. Everything else is the same apart from one vital thing to me, the insurance.... Si = group 10. GTi = group 13, all for the sake of a badge.

As I explained I had all the cash saved up for a turbo conversion and I was going to do it myself as Id learnt a lot when I was younger when me and a friend turbo'ed his twin cam sierra. The problem arose with the car being keyed and it all went down from there. If that had not happened and I was able to turbo the car it would not have been a waste of money in my eyes as it would be something I'd achieved myself, when was the last time anyone saw a mk6 escort turbo? there are a few about but they are rare. At my age it would have been an accomplishment and Id be very proud of my work, using the ERST T3 its quite easy to take it to 200+ bhp without too much difficulty (Even with the 1800 lump but I was going to use the 2.0 litre lump from the mondys as with certain insurance companies they take the donor cars engines insurance group, in this case, group 9, cheaper insurance for a bigger engine but only with select companies, i think adrian flux is one but not 100% sure) and like any other turbo the potential above and beyond that is amazing, I was just unfortunate to have what happened to me and so if my plans had have all gone through then fair enough trails it may not have been in your eyes fella but i believe it would have definitely been worthwhile, Im not happy about having to repair the bodywork but i wasnt prepared to spend 500 quid to repair the car back to the standard it was a few days prior to it being keyed and not seeing any gains from it. Its like giving away 500 quid away to someone in the street, you see nothing from your hard work besides some tw*t laughing behind your back knowing they've gotten to you and got away with it, keying someones car is lower than low and the worst thing is that by where the car was etc it HAD to be deliberate and I hate the idea of someone not liking me so much to do that to my car, I have no problems with anyone round here and I keep myself to myself and get on with it kinda thing.

To me back when I was 17 being on an apprentice wage, it wasnt far off a months pay if im honest with you so I got wound up and thought f*ck it, why slog my *** of for weeks and weeks for it all to be spoilt and I went and chucked money on the kit which yeah I like and it saves the hassle of insurance compared to a tuned car but unfortunately everyone seems to label me alongside the chavs that're on the road. I have a passion for cars and wanted to do the best I could with whats available to me, I think Ive achieved that given the problems I've faced, at least I havent given up. I know a lot of you will think I havent but most of you guys are older than me and won't realise just how far insurance has gone nowadays, as an idea the majority of insurance companies at 17 quoted me between 2 and 4 grand on the escort as standard and that was only TPFT on a group 10 car, its terrible nowadays, in the end I went with liverpool vic who were sub 1k, just! Believe me guys, when I have the funds and no insurance worries, i WILL be doing something good. I've since moved jobs from mechanics to car sales to provide a better income for my modifying and im simply living off my basic wage as at 18 with only a few bills to pay mainly board, mobile and insurance, there isnt much to worry about so I have my opportunity to earn and I can quite happily live off 850 a month and any commission I earn on top of that I am transferring into a separate savings account for my car so fingers crossed you'll be seeing something in the not so distant future.

to be honest C2, I couldnt tell you, too much probably and I know many will say its a waste of money but why is modifying my escort any more a waste of money than modifying a subaru? Because my cars slow? So is an impreza placed against choice higher end motors, but not all of us can afford AMG mercs and ferraris etc, so you're doing whats best available to you, just like I am, working my way up from the bottom but enjoying myself as I go along, I know I could save and have a nice car if I didnt spend on the escort but why wait years until im at LEAST 21 to be able to get insured on anything even half reasonable and then still get screwed over by them? What am I meant to do for my teenage years? the best years of my life with no worries, no house to worry about, no children to worry about or bills etc. I cant just sit back and twiddle my thumbs for these years, Ive waited so long to be driving and at 17, the time finally came, I love my cars and I know I wont get anywhere near the money back I spend on them but its like anything, its a hobby, we do it because we enjoy it

You are certainly no chav, people who think you are should go over to barrboys and see what a real 'chav' is, and i can assure you, they dont post replys like you have throughout this thread.

I use to have a 1.8Si escort myself when i was 18, would have liked a gti but 3 more ins groups for skirts and leather seats Don't think so. In the end i brought the gti kit myself, and put some 16'' wheels on it and that was all because i knew i wanted a scooby. Which i got when i was 20 and have had for about 7 months.

Im not too keen on the vent but apart from that it looks

Looks good mate, ok so its got Cosworth Arches, but the front and rear bumper arent even modified Cosworth style...

If I was 18, I'd be a big fan of having that while my mates cruised in rusty L-Reg Corsas that they got handed down from their mum?!

Oh, IMO, from the depth and length of replies you've given to the "doubters" on here Tilly... I definitely do not think you are a chav!?

Cheers,
