Don't care what you do Mr Brown, I'm still coming home for the weekend.
You rhyme with tanker by the way ...

Thumbs down

The information I have received, is that the Welsh tanker drivers will stop driving at midnight tonight. One has to assume solidarity will force the other drivers to follow suit.

Of course...I could just be making this up!

'fraid not. Once again this week, it seems my job interview up north will be cancelled and any chance of a few days away in the Lakes.

(Sigh).

Been thinking, which is a dangerous thing and I've wondered when Queeny get's her fuel from. Obviously no-one is going to let her run out of Jungle Jucice, but wouldn't it make a great bit of news if the Royals could not get out n about due to having no fuel. I think that Blair and Brown might then realise that they have f**ked up good and proper.

BTW - I've not heard old fatty 2 jags take on this situation, or have I missed something, maybe he can't get any fuel either now that would be justice.

I'm sure that politicians would somehow get themselves onto the 'Priority' list for petrol.

Markus,

I heard that for once the Royals actually did something right during the last crisis. I was told that Charlie refused petrol, saying that he was not an 'emergency service'. Seems even the royals are on the hauliers side.

Charlie may have done that but I'm sure 'politically correct' Phil sent out some 'peasants' to get him some fuel on pain of losing their homes or something.

How can one go hunting without fuel in one's large 4WD LandRover.

Good old Charles, nice to see the toffs lowering themselves once in a while.

Would like to see some kind of official comment from the palace on this though.

Just trying to get a decent photo of brown and blair to put on my dartboard.

...this is what i've heard.....

small local radio station in south Wales broadcast the "off the cuff remarks" that sparked panic buying of petrol and traffic chaos across the UK.
A presenter on Red Dragon FM, broadcasting in Cardiff and Newport, aired a rumour that tanker drivers were to go on strike. The rumour spread like wildfire across the country.
The comments are believed to have been made between the station's deputy news editor, Stuart McTeer and presenter Warren Moore, a spokesman for the station says.
Immediately, local drivers headed for the pumps to fill up. Other drivers seeing the queues also joined up and the rumour gained substance.
Ananova has been inundated with e-mails from people across the UK to say queues have started to build up at their local petrol stations.
The e-mails say workers have been dashing out of shops and offices heading to the pumps to beat the rush, bringing town and city centres to a standstill and forcing some filling stations to reintroduce rationing.
The radio station's false report was taken up by other news organisations and spread to Bristol and the south west initially and then nationwide.
The centre of Manchester has become gridlocked, and towns and cities have been hit by traffic queues as drivers clog-up roads waiting to get to the pumps. Although supply is back to normal drivers panicking to fill their tanks may cause another shortage of fuel.
South Wales Police confirmed the rumours started in the wake of comments on Red Dragon FM.
A spokeswoman for Red Dragon said: "We are looking into it at the moment to see what was said. A transcript of the show is being typed up. "

I don't know about this rumour/blockade - but if AWD would spend half as much time working, as he does looking at petrolbusters .com, and posting on here, I'd be rich.

As you all will know by now, that it was just a rumour and has now caused so much trouble here in Manchester.
All garages with miles tail backs, at this rate some off us will be on foot by nexted week, all I can ask of you all in Manchester is to STOP NOW lets get back to normal.
It said 60 days not 6..
Also here in Manchester, 2 garages where seen with notices out side saying Pakistanis only, men/women went to police about it and noting was done.
What do you all think of that then?

Chelsie,

We had a similar event here in Rochdale with a Pakistani owned garage during last weeks shortages refusing white customers and only serving fellow Pakistanis and Pakistani Taxi drivers.

What do I think...well it stinks. If the situation were reversed then the race discrimination KGB would have come down like a ton of bricks

All we can leally do it would seem is boycott the garage in future and boycott the Taxis.

Apparantly Liz and Phils fleet of Rollers has been converted to run on LPG. Think they've also got their own pump, but then LPG didn't run out so Phil could fill up the old barge on his way down the kebeb shop with no delays anyway.

Regarding the Pakistani owned petrol stations.

Yes the same thing happened in a garage on the West Road in Newcastle. White people were turned away even though they were still selling fuel but only to their type.

It just proves how things like this can really show people in their true colours.

If a white person turned them away, we would never hear the last of it.

So anyone in Newcastle who would have been turned away from this garage last week, you know which garage I'm talking about!!!! BOYCOTT it and the corner shops he owns as well!!!

I know some of these people turned away last week actually needed the petrol, nurses doctors etc, so I hope for the garage owner's sake, he does not require the services of the NHS in the not so near future.

Surely the police could do something if he was refusing to serve everyone except Pakistanis. That is race discrimination and if he was also not serving emergency staff and people on the priority list then this should be brought up. I'm sure that a few phonecalls to the local rags would do the trick and suddenly you would have Watchdog and Roger Cook hassling them.

What would they have done if you'd driven onto the forecourt and filled up? Sent you away without paying?

I said I was leaving the board because of the quality of the postings. I genuinely intended to, but couldn't resist a quick peek. Some of the recent postings make my blood boil.

Stratman, Paul_P, Chelsie_UK .... if you have ACTUALLY WITNESSED discrimination in the form of petrol being sold only to one racial group, then fair enough, you're reporting facts, unpalatable though they may be

If, however, it's just something heard 'from a friend of a friend' then you should consider whether you really want to be spreading racist propaganda. I truly hope that if this is the case, it was unwitting rather than intentional.

Certainly the 3 garages close to my house which I know to be owned/operated by Anglo-Asians were even-handed in their operations. As far as I know, everyone was served until the petrol ran out.

Nick F

Paul_P - I presume you mean the the A186? I'm from the area - can you identify the garage you mean? Incidentally, how do you know the owner has corner shops as well?

NickF,

The information was provided by my wife’s best friend whom she has known for 15 years and did her medical training with, so the source is very reliable.

SO THE FACTS ARE TRUE!

You want the name of the garage, well out of all the garages on the West Road, one is family owned by the aforementioned gentleman and is the closest to the town with attached corner shop. So you will know which one I mean?

You mentioned racial discrimination, well the only person doing that is the garage owners, certainly not by anyone on this board. I am just reporting facts.

If I had mentioned that the owner was Scottish and only serving Scots, would you have been equally offended?

The fact that the person was Pakistani was irrelevant to me, I was only disclosing facts and nothing else. Why is it that when certain races are mentioned, small minded people assume automatically that an element of racism is present? Why does this not apply when people mention the Welsh, Scots, French, German or Irish. Is it because they are white?
It is perfectly possible to be racist against someone with the same colour skin as yourself so before you go accusing people of spreading racial propaganda, make sure you know your facts first!

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:<HR> Just to balance things a little, my parents in law reported to me last night that their local garage (in North Yorkshire)shut completely, then reopened, serving only locals. That is exactly what happened at a local petrol station near my work here in Romiley, Cheshire.

They didn’t disguise the fact that it was for regular customers though, they put signs up saying regulars only and blocked the entrance with cones, only people they knew got served.

Not sure how I feel about that, they are a small independent service station and you have to respect their wishes to serve their customer base. It is there right to do so.

Selling only to a certain race group is a different matter though and should be prosecuted for discrimination. It won’t happen though, too much agro for the CPS to be bothered.

Chelsie, Paul_P,

You'll notice that I was careful in what I said - that if you were reporting facts, then some regrettable (and certainly racist)incidents have occurred. All you've done is state the truth, so no problems there. If I've offended at all, my apologies.

The point I was trying to make was that I've heard this sort of thing before (in other contexts) and have found that it's often something what's been heard at work, in the pub etc, and based either on a fertile imagination, or only the smallest grain of truth. In the cases you've reported, that's clearly not the case.

Just to balance things a little, my parents in law reported to me last night that their local garage (in North Yorkshire)shut completely, then reopened, serving only locals. If your car wasn't known to the owner (who was filling the cars up himself)the driver was told that the people being served were essential services cars.

John - I thought that ALL garages in Yorkshire did that all the time.

Being a soft southern Bast**d they never serve me.

Barry - I think that they will serve Scousers as long as they pay for the fuel first
