I think in your test of 50-100mph there would not be alot in it and I would not be surprised if the Clio was a touch ahead. My only gripe on my previous argument on Cliosport was that people used the 'it feels quicker' theory when they have not owned both cars like I have. The 172/182 is an excellent car and quick maybe quicker than my 241bhp WRX from 50-100. However a Cliosporter used a different test to make his point by saying from 30-70mph the 182 would be quicker. I can say with some certainty that this would not be the case as I reckon that would be the WRX strongest point. 30mph in second gear on boost would 'hammer' the Clio in that test. Thats why I got another WRX cos I find being able to get from 20/30 mph to 60/70mph comes in handy more often than 50/60mph to 100mph.

Fair point m8...I think gearing makes a difference as well...my in gear speeds are about in 1st, 68 in 2nd, 95 in third and 125 in 4th. If I was to race from 50 mine would be on cam is 2nd and ready to go, but (and I don`t know the scooby box limits) if the scooby was off boost at that speed then maybe I would have the advange and vice versa. So many variables that can make all the difference

My cup was fun, don;t get me wrong, but in a straight line it lacked grunt and was ultimately guttless.
lmfao!

i have a 182 at the min, and i went for a test drive in standard wrx at the weekend and there is not a cat in hells chance i'd swap my clio for one!

fair enough the clio has no low down grunt, but the wrx is nothin spectacular either.

as for your comment on chavs on cliosport, EVERY enthiusiasts forum has its share of those, most people on cliosport are very decent and certainly not chav!

PS, i am buyin and sti ppp instead

My experience of a classic scoob (even standard) from about 40-95 in 3rd gear is amazing with all that lovely oomphh low down i cant comment on the Clio 'cos i have never owned one!!!! i'll admit thet are seriously quick car's i just cant see one beating a scoob up to 100 - sorry maybe i'm wrong, i'll drive a clio and might surprise myself!

It is a totally different `feel` between turbo and NA m8... I went out in the scooby when he got it and I thought `great I`m going to get trounced` but when you are side by side passing a ton it seems weird. You do get a decent pull when it comes on cam but nothing like a turbo

I had a MY00.

I had a Clio 172 cup.

I owned both for 2 years, scoob was better, quicker, more fun etc.

Have you lot owned both cars ?

I am on Cliosport, the majority of people on their are immature chavs. Yozza is sound though.

I`m sorry m8, regardless if you have had both have you raced one against the other? It`s all well and good saying its faster but as I said the Scoobie would feel fast because of the turbo.....I`m sure the wrx is timed at 17+ 0-100.....funny how you say CS is full of immature people when you yourself seem very childish and small minded.

I don't quite get what the problem is here. Do you have some sort of issue with a Clio actually being quick?

Are you upset that a smaller, cheaper, French car could be as quick as a mighty Scoobie, haha.

I can vouch for Chris's Cup and numerous encounters he's had with this Scooby. There is nothing in it.

In fact I would put money on Chris's Cup being as fast as and possibly quikcker than a 240bhp Scooby on the strip, in fact I quite fancy my chances too, perhaps a nice friendly meeting at the next York date to give you Scooby boys a glimpse at what a decent example of a Clio can do?

Don't get me wrong I love the Scooby, but it ain't all that in Low-ish spec and trim, and I'm also saying the Clio isn't the be all and end all, just don;t knock one till you've come up against a decent one.

Yup, raced my cup against a standard MY00 and yes, that was with an AE802, needless to say I got hammered. My Clio was running fine and making good power before you ask.

I have taken part in a few track days, hill climbs etc, i know nothing about the effect of a peaked torque curve and how it can distort a cars actual performance compared to a vehicle with a linear one, obviously by the sounds of it i don't know as much about cars as you and Dave the Rave, but from my experience the cup was out done in every scenerio.

I find CS to be very immature, and like you say i seem childish, i would call that irony don't you think?

Would you beat an RB5 with a PPP/WR pack - that is a 240bhp scoob.

I have come up against a decent clio cup, mine, it lost and so i am knocking it !

Go on then enlighten me, what makes an RB5 with PPP/TCP/WR pack faster than say Chris's Mate with a WRX with 260bhp, I'm talking drag strip straight line speed now?

I'm not big on Scooby specs, you see

P.S I never said I would beat it, I said I'd give it a go.

Also I do agree about Cliosport though does seem a bit child-ish at the moment

Me m8....still trying to work out the irony comment really. I have been pretty relaxed and most people on this thread have been, the Jonto came on a said Cliosport was full of chavs...obviously he is far more mature than any of us. And yes, if my past experience with 240bhp scoobys is correct then yes mine would be quicker...maybe not on the strip where the 4wd launch is awesome but as soon as I have grip I would expect to stay the same or be catching towards the end.

Ok chris, i must be wrong. You win.

There is a higher than normal percentage of chavs on cliosport. I have first hand experience of that.

1245 v 1370kg, but the new age is more aerodynamic thus less drag so you have to take that into consideration also, plus a slightly different variation of the td04 turbo on the newer models....

Lol bad example m8....most of the replies to it are people saying it isn`t their cup of tea...now I`ve no chance of finding any Subarus with bodykits, different lights, wheels, spoliers, splitters etc have I? I think its unfair to pick the few people who do that to their cars. I don`t like them myself and most do look OTT but when you`re 17 and can`t afford insurance on 172`s etc the only thing you can do is get a 1.2 or something similar and modify the body (as engine mods are a waste of time). Its the same with subaru...I see lots of `chavs` bombing about in knackered old turbos but that doesn`t mean that if I see a nice p1 that it`s going to be a chav...It ain`t about winning or loosing either m8..another childish comment I see

Chris

The wife has a Clio 172 and I've got an 03 WRX - and I have driven both extensively! No matter who is driving the Scoob is *much* quicker!

Hey guys! chill out motherf*****s or words to that effect!!!!

The thing is loads of people attack Subaru's for some reason it seems the norm on here, all your Seat Leon/Cupra, Clio's R32's Audi's!!! and yeah of course people will defend their scoobs i mean it does say Scoobynet on the wrapper!

I think its not all about straight line speed either its driver ability and admittely the Subaru flatters the driver and has to be one of the best point to point car's on country roads especially in modified form, the Clio 182 Cup is possibly the best hot hatch ever produced yet! so lets leave it that.

lets stop f**king squabbling over a 0.4 sec to 100 and go and gang up on some Porsche drivers 'cos they really are *****!

Must have been a very slow one then m8...they do vary quite a lot and maybe I have been lucky with mine...there is a new shape wrx near me with a big exhaust and twice now he has been shown the ways of the force . When my car has been run in I`ll get some video up and you will see I`m not taking the ****. The chief is spot on (although IIRC there wasn`t even a subaru mentioned in the 1st place...thought it was Saab vs Clio lol) everyone have a good weekend and chill out a bit
