We cant ALL come last!
I'm just scared of my ego getting dented. I'm used to the EVO (driven by a mustard 60+ year old) but all these young stars with 2.5 litres and mega everything? Too much. ( )

Perhaps it's time to 'go into administration', sell my slow Sti and go back to real cars, my classic 911?
No, too boring, must join the 2.5 boys.

Sadly for Curtis and the crew, I'm there from about 9.00am to the job is done.
He still hasn't recovered, nor has Andy et al.

I'm easy to catch (beat) ask any EVO racer...

But you are there to beat the competition, but you are right, T & G antics between everyone in the class.
There are 5 hardened racers in the class and we know each other very well.
I chase the EVO, they chase me, and there's one guy who seems content to come last every time.
Remember there is just over 3 seconds separating all 5 of us so anything can happen, but never beat the EVO yet.

His times beat the AUDI quattro's on slicks in the class above us (600+ bhp).

One day soon....

Never bothered.
I raced my 911 a few years back fully trimmed. Took the 21Kg passengers seat out for several seasons and saw no change. One meeting the regs demanded full trim in my class, so the seat went back in.
Yes; I went faster.

Unless you are shedding serious weight (ie David Wallis style) I'm not too sure it's worth the bother (and discomfort on the road).
there are so many other parameters that have a greater effect on times.
State of mind being one, and the greatest, factor
Weather
Competition level/numbers in class
Track condition

Nice to see you are HEAVIER than me!

must be worth a 1/100 or so!

This is crazy!

Just saying that 20 kg is nothing really, but 100Kg is good, a Wallis reduction to a tonne is really good.
Colin Chapman's approach really.

David also has the advantage of weighing little more than an empty crisp packet himself

I on the other hand have a bit of a problem weighing in at a cool 108kg yesterday (a whole kilo lighter than before Christmas I might add) but fun me not good sod putting the car on a diet...

I did not realise the weight issue would cause shuch a stir, as you said Graham the season has started early. now where are those scales ..

i stripped out my old nova to the extent it would nearly fly away in the wind, and although it accelerated loads better it made it sumwhat twitchy in the handling department although im sure overall it was a quicker car a-b

That would be 11 stone at your peak, ie after a big curry and before having a dump

Although as Em pointed out you'll probably weigh the same because of the extra lift being generated by the additional gas...which makes one wonder what Pat's actual weight must really be

tim, I think you ahve miscalculated.

the force imparted by the gas only has effect whlist it is contained within a gas tight body.

Given you are aware of Pat's gas carrying ability it would appear that his gas containing ability is limited. It is thus released meaning it adds no lift.

If he were able to hold it in it would be of some benefit, but this is Pat we are talking about it.

I insist that there be a check to see if a (discreet) tube is not attached to peoples lower ventillation orafice and the intake box just in front of the panel filter, we will have NO extra calorific enhancements in Hill climbing..

If David really is 11 stone, it must be his bloody brain that is near black hole density as there really isn't a lot else left to weigh anything?

To go faster add lightness

said Colin Chapman (I think) and that is a good way to go.

Ladies, lightness is everything, less to accelerate, less momentum trying to drag you sideways into the trees, and less to stop (brakes are very under estimated in these events).

P.S. I'll beat Wallis to the Tonne. Work is in progress, with 10Kg lost today (1080Kg last season)

That is the prob though.

to get to the 1000Kg mark the car really become a trailer car, especially if the events you do are far a-field, ie Harewood is 110 miles one way. Great run as my car is today, but a real drone if gutted to the nth degree.

A few years ago the Sprint Championship in the Midlands demanded FULLY trimmed car or you go to sports libre!

I will wait with interest as to the Stevenson/Wallis cars @ 500 bhp/tonne, and then comare to some others in the Series in 2006.

You wont beat me to the tonne.. as my car isnt loosing weight.. nor will it weigh in at 1000kgs

It will only be gaining weight from its rough guess at circa 200kgs at the moment

Its the vibration through the car that fatigues before the noise? I've seen several hill climbers drive to the track on the road and are fully 'buzzed' when they got there.
Not the best of starts to the day?

Kev: 200Kg for a caged shell is amazing.
Hope John stays in Scotland. Harewood too far for you also John?

The car gets its demon AST units on friday, and a few more tweeks from Curtis and PowerStation to give me the next jump up the suspension ladder.

The purpose will be the same as last year and the really good AST's I hill climbed/road cruised on will be hard to beat...

I will be keeping the 60/50 spring combination unless Curtis advises differently, and would like to get the car a bit lower than it currently is.

Best bit will be tuning the damping setting to optimise the springs on compression and rebound.

Can't go on slicks this year due to the stock transmission, so will set the car for the Kumho V700 that will be fresh and thus very sticky for April's 'Opener' at Loton Park practice weekend at the hill, then the first of the Championship rounds at Loton, then Curb for the opener of the new SSC Series where I expect to see/experience all the Young Guns who have each other (and me maybe) in their sights.
I bet they will feel as I did 13 years ago when I did my first year hill climbing/Sprinting.....

Blow by Blow account over the weekend, but it's my 28th wedding Aniversary so that comes first.
