Searching for the perfect Chassis

I think you'll find that TA is more heavily oversubscribed than your hillclimb championships. Spoke to the organisers today at Autosport and it appears there are almost 140 entry requests received and probably 40 (maybe 50 max) that will get in
Fingers crossed for me

Thanks for the kind words Rob and Graham.
I thought it was bad enough that my health probs stopped me working! - still no one said it would be easy!
We think we'll be able to do 3 or 4 rounds of the HSA (if they get a new organiser!) Hoping to do the Loton practise too and maybe a bit more spectating!!
See you soon
Cheers

John:
At the Autosport Show I bought a dvd of French hillclimbs on closed public mountain roads with all manner of wild cars (and drivers).
The length must be about 6 km maybe more, and it is blistering pace to say the least.
You are right though,; choose the more distant venues and things are better.
I'm choosing my next Co Car now, and looking at the towing weights...
I can't do Doune now as I will hear you laughing as I 'race' up the hill
!
If i went back to the 911 I would be ok as it is in the Sports Car class, so another option! (and free too as it is just sitting there.)
Terry:
I didn't know that about TA, but as you saw with the Hillclimb Series, the numbers drop as the time approaches.

Hate to dissapoint graham but my car is still covered in the mud from my final meeting of the season and my entire off season work has consisted of disconnecting the battery....and thats it, I hope to make some changes in the next 6 weeks or so but still not managed to work out a budget due to a potential house move and work issues. I shall know more soon.
Pete has had a new roll cage fitted by extreme which is really nice, his car remains unchanged apart from that at the moment.
My dad has bought a new car and will 100% not be in our class.
I saw the french hillclimb dvd it looks awesome, some insane cars, i'd love to have a go.
The season is looming and i still have loads to do, better get busy or be a spectator i think.

Being a spectaor or go into Admin (I could easily be a commentator!) is getting to be a good idea.
No stress, no costs.
I could even have a nice 964 Porsche road car ....
Just pre season blues!
I think a Midland Raid to Doune would be great fun, and to see John flying would be an education for me at least.
Rob:
Had a hard look at a Legend sprint car (Yamaha 1200 bike engine) which would be a great car in Libre. Crap class to compete in but for £8K what a great car to use.
Single axle trailer too.
About to bite the bullet on slicks this week coming

We are back.
A lot has been going on, but progress has been slow to be honest.
After some debate, the ABS had to go. DCCD and ABS don't really go together, so i had to do the brakes before dccd progress can happen!
The huge and heavy ABS is all gone, and a variable bias system added Rally-Style which was easy, but took ages to get the bits. I expect the brakes to be better when the balance point is found.
Brake bleeding on sunday, (29th Wedding aniversary, so I hope Trish will oblige.....with the pedal pumping)
Then the engine can be oiled and run up to see if my ebay special sport cat is ok, and the dccd tested.....
Maybe I'm sad, but a moody shot of the dash:Spot the difference.

Ordered the slicks, hope they do us proud Rob! (though i learnt a little snippet too at BMTR)
Loton Park members practice day in 6 weeks and I know to some great cars arriving, but some in my class. Not good News.
Still, I have no more room for trophies....5th/6th in class here I come.

I have joined H&DLCC and when I receive the regs (give the missus a nudge Graham)for the practice day I will sign up asap.
I have made my first move towards being ready for the fast approaching season, Pete and I have bought 2 trailers from PRG which should be ready in a couple of weeks. We both sat down and crunched the numbers and the cost of the trailers was insignificant compared to just 1 years Insurance, tax, fuel to and from meetings (Loton is 100 miles from my house!)tyre wear etc. I am not a trailer fan and it all seems like a ball ache to me but in an expensive sport like this large cost savings are too good to pass over. It opens the doors to making my car more race only based, but I will cross that bridge when I come to it, my car wasn't exactly luxury in the first place.
All I need now is some wheels, as my car is stuck on axle stands and I have sold my old ones, I went to collect my new wheels on saturday only to find they don't clear my gold Brembo calipers despite me giving the bloke at the suppliers every dimension and voicing my concerns about finding wheels to clear these calipers. So any suggestions on a 7x17 et48/50 wheels that will clear gold brembos would be much appreciated.
Rob.

I have some 17" Speedline 6 spokes that should fit the bill.

I will probably be selling my 16" Volks too in September (along with the car!)

I can understand the trailer thing totally.
Very tempting, but i have nowhere to keep it at home without a riot from the neibours (sp).
I am confused why you are changing the wheels Rob.
I seriously think there are few differences between Kumho's and slicks as Roy found out. (except the Kumhos are 1/2 the cost)
Been quoted £820 all-in for the slicks.
Hope they are worth it.
No insult to you Rob as you are quick, but i think Pete will give Roy/Roger a very very tough time.
I think i will be a regular 5th in class which is depressing.
Still, only doing it for the fun......

I know my place!
I've had a good 14 year run at the hills starting from the very bottom of the class to second and even first sometimes, but you and Pete are far too quick for me, Pete I think is 1/2 my age! (and 2 x richer)
I will certainly be trying to keep the gap tight though!
One thing about a trailer is you don't need to worry about getting home.
About the Practice Weekend:
You need to get your Membership entry in!
Gaynor will then send you an entry form for Sat and Sun. Spaces are going quickly so do not delay. If you like please pm your address and I'll send you the forms. Can't confirm a place till Membership No. is with Trish.

I'm in the mood to sell this bloody car right now.
Cannot get the rear half shaft out of the diff, as in cannot.
Nothing has gone right this winter.
Rob, your younger bro is right, get an EVO.
I have the engine running, the trans changes gear and there are no funny vibs or noises, but the rear shafts into the new diff are causing mega headache, and are about the straw to break the camel's back.
Everything has been a battle.
My 911 in C2 looks good to me.
