Im not claiming the road is dangerous Im telling you it is. Even if Id gone for the undertake I reckon the git would have pulled over and forced me to brake. The guy was a tosser trying to play with other drivers on one of the worst roads round here. When it happens to you I reckon youll have anothr point of view

Agree freeway system would be good, traffic seems to flow better and in general you seem to get less frustration on the roads.

However (and no offence meant) until we get them, I'd make undertaking a license losing offence, it causes bunching, frustration, aggravation and a whole load of other emotions, that lead to bad driving.

Sometime its the fault of a lane blocker, sometime its just weight of traffic, so what, just wait

So if you came up against some car doing 50mph in the outside lane on the motorway, you'd just sit behind and wait?

Skittles, thats what I tried to say but his words keep changing....

"When it happens to you I reckon youll have anothr point of view
You think Ive not been sat behind someone before on an open road when they could quite clearly go faster safely whilst blocking the "fast lane" as it were? Course I have... and Ive flashed my lights at them to make them aware I want to go past as you did. I didnt give out a wa#ker sign though, (not saying I wasnt thinking it though) Id rather undertake safely and look at them shaking my head at them, think it gives them more of a sensible message rather than a wa#ker sign dont you?

Forget the fact that he left you for dead and made you look like a mug but the fact that he was an idiot in the wrong lane doesnt make any excuses for your actions. you would have been within your rights to have undertook without breaking the speed limit, and if you would have needed to break the speed limit to get past then you would have been silly to have been speeding on what even you admit to being such a trecherous road....

What on earth does this mean?

Trying to pass a slower car is overtaking - this isn't like queing in traffic where the inside lane happens to be going faster!!

Dracoro

Re reading that again it does sound a little over the top, maybe not license losing offence, but I really do believe undertaking causes many accidents on our roads, either because people aren't looking for it, or because of the "your not coming in this gap" mentality causes bunching and tailgating.

In general yes I sit behind them, I flash lights a couple of times and then drop back and give up.

The one time i can recall a deliberate undertake was exactly the circumstances you describe on the M3 with a little old lady doing 50 in the outside lane for miles and miles, eventually it came to my turn to either follow or undertake, and I took the undertake option, so I shouldn't really preach.

Overtaking should always be done without speeding so whats your point?

Are you saying that as long as you are under the speed limit you CAN ALWAYS undertake?

Please substantiate this by confirming that you are qualified in some way ie.Traffic cop,Driving instructor etc

Older Yes, Slower NO, The Clasic STI is about 200kg lighter than the Newage car's with much the same power. I have pulled away from New Sti's without much fuss.

No, Im not saying drop it a cog and whiz by like you would if overtaking....

its in the highway code for crying out loud, ALL traffic should sit in the left hand lane and only venture into the right hand lane to overtake.... agree????

so from that first thing we ask is what was JDM doing in the right hand lane if the left hand lane was clear as he puts it? either he intended to play by the book and pull out and make the beemer pull in (which didnt work) or they both overtook the last car say a mile ago and are the only 2 cars around on this clear road.... in which case JDM should have also been in the right hand lane.... no? and aslong as he didnt break the speed limit could have quite happily sat in the left hand lane all the way past the beemer (unless off course the beemer decided to speed off which incidently he did) and JDM would have still been doing the sensible speed in the correct lane thinking why the **** did the beemer just do that? the beemer wouldnt have anything to be proud off and everyone would have been happy.....

Dont you agree?

Ha ha - talk about blinkered!

So if I approach any car going slower than me whilst I'm in the left hand lane I can pass(overtake) on the inside?

Remember - the term "overtake" is meant to mean "passing" a slower vehicle.
"Undertaking" has been created to describe overtaking on the inside lane!!

Tell me you get this - oh btw - are you an expert?

Yeah, which he didn't pay for and, in any case, is worth three times the Scoob.

Hmmm, tough choice!

blinkered? in what way exactly?

Look Im not saying overtaking is different to undertake. like I say word it how you like... you can sit in the same lane all the time and keep on going regardless...

might be an expert. might not. Are you?

IMO gives a good reflection of what it'll be like when rolling as the BM has shed loads more torque so 0-60 isn't it's strongest point.

Exactly. Any the BMW is a RWD, not 4WD. 535d owners say the DSC light on on even in second gear, so traction isn't its strongest point, but torque, which is important in this situation, is.

Incedentally did you guys see BMW is launching a load of 3er and 5ers with 4WD?

I'd pull out and within a safe distance flash them till they move.

If someone was staying in the overtaking lane doing 50mph (and not overtaking) in a 70mph limit that surely is 'driving without due care and attention' or whatever that law is, undertaking I'm sure the police would class as a more serious 'dangerous driving'.

And what if they didnt move? youd just carry on sitting there at 50mph for another 10 miles? even if the left hand lane was clear on a 70mph road?

davegtt, in general yes, although I can think of one situation where I didn't.

I don't agree with your argument that you can continue on the inside at a legal speed and pass them (not saying your wrong, I 'm saying I don't do that, its not how I understand the law).

This doesn't happen very often to me as I just don't do the mileage on the type of roads where this is a problem. I did drive to wales last weekend, guy in Jag sitting in outside lane with no cars on inside, I waited, I flashed, he moved no problem, if he hadn't I wouldn't have overtaken on the inside, if he's stupid enough to sit out there, whos to say he's not stupid enough to pull over just when I'm half way past.
