Airspeed phoned today first thing as promised, the web site had broken and they did not have my order, wonder how much other business this has lost for them.

Bulbs were out of stock, expected next week, so I said I would wait for them.

The guy read from the catalogue about the bulbs that I had ordered, he said they are now E approved.

I will wait and see……………….

Looked at some of DJDunks supplied bulbs at JAE and they are dim, but do fash orange

Will try and post some pics up after the weekend, but I got sick of people almost running into the back of me with the silver fusion bulbs and so have just changed them for LED's. A bit of work fitting them, as they use hardly any power and the relay reacts as if a bulb has blown, so you have to fit a resistor behind each bulb. They are much brighter and illuminate with that instant effect, whereas normal bulbs seem to fade up/down. Work out a similar price to the silvered bulbs too.

you say they are better than Silvertec's, but how do they compare to OE bulbs ? also where did you get them.

Thanks

Got them from http://www.ultraleds.com/ but they do also need a resistor adding wired in parallel behind each bulb fitment to compensate for the drop in current and prevent the flasher relay flashing very quicly (like a bulb has blown).

When I get chance this week I'll try and take comparative pics and/or vids of OE, Silver and LED, both in daylight and dark. Bear with me as it will involve me either using a $hitty camera phone or borrowing a digicam (really must buy one ).

www.airspeed.uk.com

I also had it confirmed that they were road legal, and I e-mailed airspeed to give them the option of changing them if they were not fit for road use and bearing the BSI or E mark, seeing my order had not been sent to me.

The saga continues......................................... .....................

This is a copy of the e-mail sent to airspeed

Hello ********

I recently received my order for two Silvatec bulbs, I was assured by you
the bulbs was road legal ,as you read this out from the catalogue, I
confirmed this with you on the below e-mail ands asked for an alternative to
be sent if these bulbs were later found to be not road legal for any reason.

It states quite clearly on the package containing the Silvatec Bulbs, not
E-marked, for show and of road use only.

Why have you sent me these bulbs when I have gone to lengths to request road
legal bulbs.

Please phone to disuses
L

George from airspeed, phoned me back.

The catalogue stated the Silvatec bulbs were road legal, but the ones for the rear of the MY03 indicators have not been passes and will probably never be due to the limited sales according to his supplier.

These are not suitable for road use and are to dim, in my opinion it’s not worth getting a shunt because your indication was not seen.

Stick with the yellow bulbs and be safe!

Yep that was my conclusion as well, I might give the LED's a go though.

Still don't understand why the Silvertec bulbs I had in my old Classic were as good as the OE bulbs, it's just these wedge things that are a bit dim.

Yep, I would say about 30% dimmer than the standard bulb and you loose the most intensity from the bulb face, although the reflector is just a little dimmer.

As for corradoboy's solution, I would like to know a bit more detail on adding the resistor etc.

Just to note, with no bulb glass, would this not loose the efficiency of the reflector.

Can’t wait to hear more.

The led's have side way facing diode's as well which will help in this respect, however I suspect they won't make the best use of the reflector in light unit.

A normal bulb throws out light in all directions.

Right, never one to be beaten.

Take bulb, a kitchen scourer, piece of masking tape and some of your favorite brand of Tcut.

Mask off the top third of the bulb, and remove silvering from the bottom section using the scourer and Tcut. Exact amount to be removed can be varied to taste the orange colour must be on the inside of the glass as it doesn't come off.

It looks the same from behind but you get a lot closer to the original brightness. I've not tried it in daylight yet but expect it to be acceptable

Alan

I have had Sivatech for 2 months and nearly been hit up the a#$e twice. The bulbs do look the part but they are a bit on the dangerous side !.

Removing the bottom half of the silver makes sense but when you look at the rears are you not back to the orange effect (even with the silver top).

Mick, you get some orange reflection in the reflector when there off, but certainly a lot less than with the original bulbs. I think it's a good compromise, I've yet to make a comparison in daylight though.

I had the same problem when I swapped my brake lights for LEDs - the ABS warning light was always on.

Just about to order some bulbs for my rear detango so an interesting read. Does anyone else have the diadem bulbs? I have them in the front and I think they're a good bit brighter than the OE bulbs.

You need a resistor to make the LED's work OK in the indicators. I've used 4 of these (one per bulb), but I got mine for £2 each at a local motorbike shop. You could also try this.

Will get 'round to taking some pics soon

Have now purchased some genuine Phillips Silvertec bulbs...........and there brilliant literally. I would even go as far to say that they are brighter than the OE bulbs. They even fit the socket properly which the others don't.

WY21W £15.45 from Autobulbs, well recommended.
