2 confirmed dead so far.
Tube network is shutdown. Buses in central London suspended. Train services into London are being stopped before they reach the central London stations
Met police have asked people to stay where they are and not move around the capital, so I think the evacuation is just a rumour.

Some pragmatic thoughts..
Sky news are talking 'Nightmare scenario' but realistically its far from it. London has always been on the terrorists hit list, even from the IRA days. It was never a question of IF, but when and how.
Six bombs(if thats how many it is) on buses and trains is Not a nightmare scenario. It's a horrific terrorist attack on innocent lives but in all honesty could have been much much worse.
For example, they could have used delayed detonation to wipe out the emergency services coming to rescue, attacked hospitals, power and gas installations at the same time to deny treatment to the injured or any number of permutations.
It had a degree of co-ordination, but not as much as the media is making out. All it really needs is six guys to leave six packages in a bus or train within a few mintues of each other and there you go.
People will compare this as Britains 9/11, but for any who remember the IRA attacks in the 70's there were much worse.
The loss of life is tragic, and nothing can mitigate that.
Looking at the footage on the TV, I am proud to see how well the emergency services are doing to get things back into order. From an outsiders view they are doing the right things at the right time and I firmly believe that in dealing with this sort of attack they are some of the best in the world.

South West Trains site says they are still running out of waterloo
"At the present moment our services are running normally and Waterloo station remains open.
At this moment in time we would however advise passengers not to travel into London.
This page will be updated as more details are known.

WOULD ALL THOSE WITH POLITICAL COMMENTS PLEASE STICK EM BACK UP THEIR ***** WHERE THEY BELONG AND CONCENTRATE ON THE NEWS FOR ONE DAY!
This is obviously a co-ordinated terrorist attack timed to coincide with the start of the G8 summit!
I hope everyone I know in London is OK and let's put up with a bit of disruption today and hope everyone get's through it safely.

We do not know who is responsible, yet.
I've thought the above for ages but today's events need to be kept in perspective until we get FACTS.

There's no escaping that unless you believe there is no political motive behind the attacks at all. Hey, perhaps SN's very own 'chaos.' was taking a sightseeing tour around london and left various bits of his luggage lying around.
Be real. It's very political and people are very much allowed to have opinions on the politics behind it.

Neil S - completely agree with you.
I think the fast pace of info in the world today means that rumours fly faster than facts. Statistically we're all unlikely to be hit, but the media hype just generates panic & confusion. The IRA attacks on Baltic Exchange & various pub bombings were much worse for damage & casualties IIRC.
Think I might be one of those kipping in the boardroom tonight. Walked past Edgware Road on the way from Paddington to work - was going to get the tube today!
Sat in the office, just opposite Marylebone Station & have phoned g/f & parents to say all's well.
Will pop across to the sation for a Cornich pasty in a mo - it's all quiet out there, despite the chaos only a few hundred yards away.

Please, please .... until you know who was responsible, don't start making assumptions.
If you must describe the bombers, then use the words "terrorist", "murderer", "filth" and I'll agree wholeheartedly. But to talk about Muslim terrorists is just daft - the IRA were (nominally) Catholics, but no Christian I've ever met supported their actions.

No one has said is was Moslems who did it, and even muslems whould say that anyone who carries out such attacks is a true Moslem.
It's a pretty sick state of affairs that people turn a thread on a news event into a chance to put forward speculative race, religious bias and cheap point scoring.
I fully expect someone to post a suggestion "That we round up all the 'rag heads' and put into detention camps" or ship em out of the country.

Once again, can we keep the pure speculation out of this thread? Please stick to the facts and post up any new information for those that don't have access to TV / Radio.

I'm told that UBS in the city has been evacuated - possibly the source of the rumour, but I'm told by someone working there that it's just them, not the whole area.

Best wishes to all in London, we are all thinking of you.
My brother and g/f (live in London) Ok, luckily got to work at 8 am
Our international phone system is down. We are in Stoke-on-Trent. Shut down by government?

Following a briefing from TfL management:
Please be aware that all buses will be recalled in London and the Tube
network has been suspended until further notice. TfL, I believe have also
advised all Rail networks to avoid bringing passengers into the capital.
Rail routes home may therefore be impacted.
All TfL staff have been advised to remain inside unless they feel real
urgency to go home. For those who do, it has been suggested that they walk
home, ride by bike or take a taxi. I suggest that all employees
follow sound advice from TfL to stay inside buildings.
All meetings today and tomorrow should be cancelled. Please call all staff who had planned to attend meetings to cancel them. TfL are encouraging staff to take work home rather than come into London tomorrow.
It remains uncertain as to whether this bombing activity has completed and
staff should remain vigilant. Six bombs have exploded this morning
primarily at tube locations.
Please continue to make your managers aware of your movements and inform
the Project Office as requested of your wear abouts. I urge you to ensure
that your contact details on both White Pages and Source are up-to-date.
