John

I was after a car that can have power on the limit 100% of the time! (that is on Optimax and NF)
I'm not interested in quarter miles, drag strips, etc as no car of mine will ever be on one of these

It just has to be as fast as possible to 150mph!!

I would not really use it as a daily driver - just a go in and go for a blast, as its just too expensive compared to the WRX........

That's right Andy, I was going on about the 18g for about 6 months before you even admitted it was as good or better than 20g! Only I couldn't sell one because everyone was following the leader with the 20g!

I run a Roger Clark 18g/ gt35 (roller bearing) hybryd on a 2.0 with aps fmic, hit`s 1.7 bar @ about 4800 on opti, hold`s it to 8000 car go`s very well , very little if any lag , I am very pleased with it and would recomend it, If you are around herefordshire give me a shout and I`ll take you for a ride,
I am not sure of the bhp RCMS estimated around 430 but haven`t driven it, Quick motorsport have driven it and reckoned more towards the 500 mark , the instructor at prodrive said 450 so who knows :-)

I already read 4pages of this thread and I do not achive any conclusion yet!

I am just a person that like Imprezas not a Guru, but I has thinking in a Power Enterprise 1818F to achive the same results!

I have a similar setup to Tim H's but run the 20G not the 18 so may be a little more laggy than his.

I'm only running 1.4 BAR because of being still on standard 2.0 UK internals so it hovers around the 400bhp / 330Lft/lb at the moment.

mod`s , omega pistons, arrow rods ,aps fmic, 850cc`s (max idc 76) , motec, parallel fuel rails, 18g/ gt35 turbo , light flywheel / pulleys, fuel pump / fuel reg/ 8.5/1 compression ratio / arc alloy sump (probably one of the most important bit’s in my view) 6 spd jdm with dccd and a few more bit`s
in a 96 sti ra,
turbo was around the £1800 mark , what is lag ? is it the time it takes to get the turbo spooled from say 2000 revs , if so it gives you abot 350 bhp @ 4500 rpm pisses any normally aspirated, or is it the time if you back off for say 5 seconds and it takes to get full boost back, if so it’s virtually instant, or say the time if you want to overtake, go down to the correct gear turn steering wheel and the floor it, (if you do not turn steering first you will go up the back of the person in front if you are not careful) of course all of the above was very cheep (I stopped counting @ 10 g ) but I look at it as it does smile’s to the gallon not miles , around 14 mpg on average,
all in all I would say it is an superb turbo but the you have to have the rest of the bits to go with it , I could have gone for the larger one as fuzz has , that produces 530 bhp on the roger clark "iceland car " with the same spec motor as I have but I wanted less lag , which I would say I have, bhp is not the issue for me, response is,

where did you get the arc sump from Tim I am in the middle of chewing over whether to make one or buy one (I will be strung up by various "freinds" if I do buy one cos I am supposed to paying off a few debts first)... but hey, needs must and all that.
After reviewing the his res in car vids of me round haynes I noticed my oil pressure go to **** on every left hooker.
worrying me now.......

Mine was £1300 off of BRD and that had mapping to suit thrown in as well.

sry was a bit high on the turbo price , it was £1319.99 + fitting kit @ £ 179.44 + VAT
The arc sump was 550 from Graham goode racing, I looked at lot`s of sump`s as in my view that is what kill`s engines, very small capactity, engine reving @ 7000 rpm with the cornering capabilities of the car , the oil just does not fall into the bottom quick enough, pump cavitates , then it`s that expensive rattle if you are lucky, leg out of bed if it`s a bad day, I looked at a fair few designs from some that have just "wings" welded onto them , that would probably be worse if anything, to full on prodrive WRC examples that were gated / baffeled @ only £3000 :-) I settled on the ARC, being alloy also helps a little with oil cooling, I also reset my pickup distance from 15mm to approx 7 mm (as did the prodrive wrc one I looked at )
I also run slightly overfull with oil, I have no maf and open breathing so when it spit`s a bit out it does not matter ,

After looking at your turbo , mine is slightly different in that it has slots cut into it around the compressor wheel, maybe that`s why mine is so loud :-) also I notice you were doing a group buy on headers, make sure they will go round the sump , I have a set of grp A ones sat around that don`t :-(

I run her over full as it is... well it starts off over full at the beggining of the trackday anyway.
Next day I had a RR day at wrctech who kindly checked the oil before sticking it on the rollers.

iIt only needed a litre to get it ON the stick !!


Also running VTA breathers (not even a catch can) and Link ECU so no MAF either.

The slots is what is refered to as a 'ported shroud'

And in answer to the question, A non bolt on turbo is the best option IMHO.. but cost is the main concern for most.. but at least they are coming down in price.

You wouldnt want to know what my new turbo cost!

Just because I was running a group buy for work, dont think a set of those are attached to my car.
Hayward and scott ones have been on mine about two years. (2 + layers of wrap)

That'll make it spool better still then, I assume you've rotated the whole assembly and shoved the inlet pipe between the brake fluid res and the inlet manifold then??

nope , but it ain`t easy to get a 76mm pipe under the manifold :-) mine mount`s in the standard place , but i did have to get the grinder out in a big way,

Oh.... ahhh 18G

Mine is 20G (as I said) but without ported shroud.. mine is a 76mm inlet (shut up wallis I know you can park an artic in yours ) and I know alllllll about getting it to fit under the manifold, as that is where it resides on mine. ala RCM inlet helped there with a suitable samco pipe.

Yep I looked at their pipe , wasn`t it around £200 ish ?? mine was £4.00, it`s the agricultuaral looking black canvas with a spiral wire to keep it open, does not look very pretty but does the job nicely and I didn`t have to space the manifold up either cause it`s very thin,

I'm pretty sure you mean P20 for the exhaust housing, 20g is a Mitsubishi compressor wheel.
