Sorry, I know it's old but there's some useful information in it and I've found it quite helpful. Perhaps I should have started another thread but now it's resurrected, does anyone have any idea about the numbers please?

Unlike the T25s the T20s were/are not numbered so I couldn't tell you offhand, but there weren't that many.

In all honesty Iain is your best bet as he'll probably have the info in his head.

spoke to Iain about this when i got mine, there are aroung 34 real one's from iain tuned by iain, ther are however a lot more that are not from iain and not tuned by iain but carrying the Type 20 badge

This is the Hakeye model im on about, not sure if iain ment all blob/hawk hatch or just hawks

My T25 is original

 

Mine (Blob T20) is still original as far as I know, apart from its rear spoiler and a front splitter. It has all the original paperwork too.

I asked Iain recently if it was still possible to upgrade it to a Type 25 but he mentioned that his new turbo has rendered this un-necessary. I'll have to get used to it being standard first (and save up like mad), but the idea of lots more power is always rather appealing.

 

even as standard they are an impressive tool, power is great but you dont want to get to the point of where power takes a week to arrive.

the billet LM400 would set yours off nicely, a decent power with good spool up still.

The only problem i have found with mine is the brakes being not great (standard brembos) so i have sorted that with a new setup so all will be great soon

 

Bloody Hell ... yup .. tis me ! Lovely looking motor you have there from memory.

As for brakes .. I still have the brembro calipers .. but am on Performance Friction front disks and pads all round .. plus braided brake pipes .. plus DOT 5 brake fluid .. is fine when pushing on and once pads warmed up ... might try the new Blue pads next though as meant to be better from cold.

The only point I'd make is that you don't get the same torque with the 2ltr I don't think - but probably not an issue.

Im probably wrong and oversimplifying an explination given to me once but what the hell .. all things being equal ... bhp gives you a sort of idea of how fast it will be, whilst torque provides and indicator of how quickly it will get to it ... don't know how true it is though ..

I'd agree ... if the intent is to keep the standard top mount and air intake.

I have one of the original LM420s on and it is definitely much better than the original turbo, but it is constrained by the lack of FMIC and air intake, so as above, if the standard look is required, go for the 400 billet.

If its intended to put on a FMIC and CAI then one might as well go for the 450 ... remembering you are still on a standard engine though ... hence why I originally went for the 420 as there weren't many 450 bhp cars around on standard internals then .. and i am not sure whether Iain does 420s anymore

As for the 2l vs 2.5l yes i belive your correct with the 2.5 having more torque.

Out of interest did you have your car mapped by Iain (road mapped)

I was going to go full hog on mine with front mount etc but im happy where i am...........i think

 

No plans for any track days so far Ed .. watching the pennies at the moment - or should I say pounds with the cost to fuel these things ! -and so will see what the position is early next year as I try to do 1 or 2 a year ... but I do also try to go to different tracks in all honesty, so not sure I'll go to Lydden next year .. despite being a great little track with really friendly people there.

And yes .. Iain did all my mapping on the road but generally he prefers not to offer this as a service as it takes his time away from his day to day business activities.

I'm not sure whether to upgrade further I have to say .. all more cost and I'm pretty happy with 400 odd tbh as seems to be a very nice power level for a good day 2 day road car - although I might get the billet wheel put in to increase the spool a little as they weren't around when I had my turbo fitted.

I'm think Lydden is a great day out for the reasons you mentioned and also i live 25 mins away so its very good for turning up and driving if the weather is nice.

Your right they cost a fair bit to run but smiles to the gallon are great
