Re: June Scoobynet Group Buy

Dear Ian,

I am writing to you regarding “MadMarks” group buy on Scoobynet.

I have a 2000MY Subaru Impreza and require the 294mm Grooved Front Discs with Ferodo DS2500 pads and the matching rear discs, again with the same pads.

I therefore enclose a cheque for the sum of £450 (payable to I Godney) which includes the £10 for UK delivery.

I trust this is satisfactory and I look forward to receiving the brake discs and pads, which should be delivered to the address above. [Otherwise insert alternative delivery address here]

Kind regards,

Pleasure mate!

Discs and pads are easy! Especially when doing them together!

Haven't done the discs on the Scoob before but done loads on other cars!

Remove cap from brake fluid resevoir and cover with absorbent cloth (as brake fluid tends to get pushed back up as you push the pistons and you don't want it spilling all over the engine bay!

Take wheel off ....

Remove spring clips holding pads into calliper and retain!
Remove one pad and use very large flat srewdriver to push piston back into calliper.
Swap pads over and repeat!
- Put old pads in bin .......
Tie some strong string / wire to calliper....... and attach to suspension strut / spring.
Undo two large bolts on rear of calliper and push to one side (careful not to let it pull on the brake lines.
Remove disc (some have a single screw in the front and some use a split washer on one of the wheelnut threads)

Put new disc on.
Bolt calliper back in place.
Insert pads (remembering to coat back face with Copperslip)
Replace pad retaining clips.
Replace wheel.

Repeat on the other side and then remember to put cap back on brake fluid resevoir .......

Done in about 30 mins!

Hi Mark,

Sorry to be so long with this reply BUT ....

looks like i'll be able to stretch to to the 325mm rear kit as well!! The reason I havent got back to you before was that if I was going to put the best on the front, I wanted to do the same with the rear .... just had to sort out the finances!!

Therefore i'll be looking for :

335mm AP Racing 6 pot front kit
325mm large rear disc kit
braided hoses all round (I take it they come in a set of 4 anyway) and brake fluid

I will e-mail Ian directly to sort out the details and to confirm the price you quoted (£1920) and also to check payment options .... cheque or bank transfer.

Thank you once again for your trouble,

Norm. (RB5 69)

Not joining the GB but worth pointing out I had the Godspeed Brembo kit to the front of my classic and it works a treat.

Felt the need to mention this as yesterday I managed to come to a dead stop almost instantly to avoid running over a dog that just ran out in front of me at the absolutely last minute.

The complete randomness of the dog was scary, but the brakes responded so well. I am very happy I got them.

Oh and nice to get a Christmas card from Ian also.

OK - I am officially jealous! This set up would stop a train!

Spot on! I have assumed for the purposes of the list that you want Grooved discs - but as long as you're not "the last of the late brakers" / doing trackdays either the cross drilled or the combination would be fine!

Let me know what they're like (or even better - take some pictures) once they're on!

Thanks Mark,

Just to let you know, I posted the cheque off to Ian today. I e-mailed him this morning and got a reply within 10 minutes! Like yourself, he said there may be an issue with drilled discs. Even though I dont do any track driving etc., I have decided to play it safe and go for the grooved only.

I will certainly post some piccies on here and also on the RB5OC and let you know just how amazing they are!

Thanks again for the work youve done for this group buy and also to Sanjay (RB5 #416) for letting me know about it!

Cheers,

Norm.

Hi,
My T99 wagon could do with the whole friggin lot replacing. I need front and rear discs + pads. Might as well get some nice hoses whilst I'm at it. One caliper is sticking abit but I can have a fiddle with it and I am hoping it's just a bit sh*t up. I have the standard 16" wheels.
What do you recomend? How big can I go? etc etc I don't do track days (yet) but the brakes do get a tad warm on occasion.

What do you recomend? How big can I go? etc etc I don't do track days (yet) but the brakes do get a tad warm on occasion.

I think you have 6 options (depending on your budget):
1. Standard sized replacement discs / Ferodo DS2500 pads with Goodrich hoses and some DoT 5.1 brake fluid £510
2. As above but with refurbished callipers (in your choice of colour) +£150
3. 308mm Brembo kit with standard sized rear discs, ferods ds2500 pads, braided hoses and brake fluid. £1110
4. 308mm Brembo kit with 325mm Subaru rear upgrade kit + hoses and fluid. £1465
5. 308mm AP kit with standard sized rear discs, ferodo ds2500 pads, braided hoses and brake fluid. £1160
6. 308mm AP kit with 325mm Subaru rear upgrade kit + hoses and fluid. £1515

Let me know your thoughts .....

Just had the GF cut my buget. Were moving soon. May have to sell the car so can't really justify big spend. Option 1 looks OK. How do you get to £510.
I get more. Is this for both fromt and rear disks.
I was thinking of standard fronts and rear disks with some redstuff. I get that to be £580. + hoses etc.
I would love some nice shiney new stoppers but then I would want to go the whole hog and replace the wheels and go big. However ........
The AP set looks good but again it s over my budget at the moment.
Whats the godspeed set like (308mm £525 - Normally £595 (Suitable for 16" Wheels or above) )
If my calipers need servicing then that could be an option. Are these calipers as good as the standard 4 pots. + whats the deal with servicing. Is it an exchange or do I have to do without front brakes while they get done. (Could be interesting!!!!!!!)
Sorry to ask all these questions.
By the way. If I really have to go buget anyone used these (could do for a while) http://www.speedways.co.uk/shop/index.html
Pads and disks all round for £215 Would not be expecting the same quality but any comments?

Dan
