Does anyone need the route in km? If not I'll miss that out.

You just need to get the routes marked out on Memory Map, make sure they are all showing on the PC screen, then menu Overlay > Export Visible (or Export All) to save as as a .mmo file (mem map overlay).

Distribute the file, could be done on the day via Bluetooth if you want to keep it secret until then, and then all us PDA users can have the map / route displayed as we drive Also need to know what map region / regions we need to upload to the PDA beforehand (big memory card needed ).

Still not sure if I can make this yet, really want to but may have other commitments that weekend.

Cheers Graz I imagined it was summat like that, didn't think about the bluetooth though LOL @ 'Export All' you obviously don't know how much I've got on there!

It will still need a bit of work to assemble it as my recce process isn't that neat I will give it a try this evening

I will check the map regions but I know it goes off the bottom of the North Wales & borders 1:50,000 one (Region 5).

Well, I managed to stitch the various tracks together to get the routes, but it's taken ages and still drops waypoints every time you have to convert to track and back to route again

I can save visable as an .mmo file, but can't work out how to transer it? It looks like it only gives me the option to beam it by IR I have managed to open it directly on the PDA but I couldn't 'import' it direct to MM

If you have the maps to cover the rectangle from Llanfair.p.g.(Anglesey) to Tenbury Wells you should be ok That is mostly Region 5 and a 10-15km slice of Region 3.

TBH I've never really tried converting tracks to routes and vice-versa. I would imagine it would cause loss of waypoints if you went from a route to a track and back again though. Typically if I'm planning a walk or drive I will plot it out as a route either on the PC and then export the data to the PDA, or if I'm away from my PC I'll plot the route on the PDA itself. Of course the PDA will then plot a track of my actual movements when I start to follow the route.

I have in the past created a number of walks and saved each one individually as an .mmo file. I then just copy the .mmo's to some convienent location on the PDA (usually to another directory on the flash card that the maps are on). Using file explorer I then just click the .mmo file corresponding to the walk I want to do and it then opens up the Memory Map pocket navigator application on the PDA with that overlay loaded. If you have several maps on the flash card it will ask you which one you want to use.

Bit confused by what you mean about transferring the .mmo file. Are you talking about from one PDA to another or from your PC to the PDA. If its the latter then assuming the PDA is in the cradle and active synched with the PC it should be easy enough to transfer it as a file. PDA to PDA I just had a quick look at that on mine. IR is one option and that is what it seems to want to do if you use the beam file option. It seems on my iPAQ 2210 to transfer it via Bluetooth you need the file transfer option active in the Bluetooth config, put the file in the shared folder (My Documents\ is default) then other PDAs should be able to discover the device and request a file transfer. Can't go any further than that though as I don't have another Bluetooth device to play with.

Yep, that was exactly it, and about as far as I got, for the same reason

I had never thought of storing all my historical data like that, it would be very useful! Although most of my walks (and drives for that matter) I have absolutely no idea where I'm going till I get there!

Route-track conversion is OK but it cuts down the detail and looses waypoints when converting Track-Route You need to have them as tracks to split and join them and as routes to alter them.

Anyroadup, route is all written up now I just need to do some highlighted maps for those that havn't yet reached the 21st century

Morning all - back from my hol's in Italy. Great roads - shame the hire car was a Meriva diesel.

It would seem rude to break tradition and not turn up
