Cool

I'd like to extend my thanks to Rich for organising yet another enjoyable day at the rollers. I am very pleased with the figures, nice to see a 'Sport' turning a few heads.

Thanks Rich, well happy with my figure despite the slipping on the rollers & the 0.4 bar boost (I'm assuming the heat got to it as it was back to 0.7 bar as normal on the way home!).
Some great cars, the Sport was excellent (Did it have a 'ickle turbo in there somewhere????), Alan's car is superb & it was great to see my favourite one make it's figures despite the heat (nice one Rob)!

Correct and only running a fraction of the boost of an OEM turbo (less than half). So an amazing achievement I reckon, especially considering the temp in there yesterday was 29 degrees!

Nope no turbo. A supercharger.
Nope no FMIC. A radiator.

Just to clear up any confusion.

Definition of a 'Turbo' - This is a turbine driven centrefugal supercharger.

Whilst there are other types of supercharger (roots and twin screw) as used on the Mini Cooper S and various Mercs, this car uses a centrifugal supercharger

i.e. the air compression mechanism of the 'Tubo' and this supercharger is the same, it is merely the drive mechanism which differs,
'Turbo' - Turbine driven using exhaust gasses
'Super' - Belt driven from the crank

I hope this clears up any confusion.

No problem. Centrefugal superchargers are generally add ons rather than original equipment so most people assume a supercharger as being the type on the Mercs and Minis.

The Supercharged sport sounded different and certainly showed the figured well.

Would the hot weather have affected it less than the turbo cars?

We were sure it was a FMIC ... at the front ... and along with the big brakes maybe a Turbo with a sport bonnet!

Certainly not, it is a genuine MY00 Sport it has had some upgrades on the brakes due to the extra power (have you seen the brakes that are on the sport as standard!)

As to an FMIC, nope its a radiator for the chargecooler.

Turbos by their very nature produce large amounts of heat from the exhaust gasses that drive them. Centrefugal superchargers don't suffer from this due to the nature of the drive mechanism. There might be a case to say that chargecooler systems are less affected by high ambient temperatures than air to air intercoolers.

Glad to be of help

Sorry for the delay but here are the results:

Just got to say Steve Chaps car was amazing 407bhp at 0.5 bar of boost. Looked and sounded awesome.

Well done to the swordmaster's 1st supercharged sport in the uk 189bhp at only 6psi (0.4bar) is extremely promising, especially in 30 degrees. Can't wait to see what a smaller pulley gives on a colder day.

All the cars seemed to suffer with the heat. 29 degrees inside the garage was recorded several times. That will have a significant efffect on any car, even a normally aspirated one.

Also on the day I thought mine recorded 310lbsft peak but when I got home and studied the graph it was actually 320lbsft and from 3750rpm to 6000rpm the torque curve is almost totally flat and never goes below 310lbsft.

1. Steve Chaps MY04 Noble M12 GTO 3R (M400 turbos and intercooler, uprated internals, raised boost) 407bhp 317lbsft

2. Craft MY02 STi (PPP, Prodrive 2nd cat replacement, TSL exhaust, STi panel) 292bhp 248lbsft

6. Kris Kocsis MY03 WRX (full decat, uprated pump, MRT panel ported headers, STi TMIC, Samco hoses) 283bhp 255lbsft

7. Alan Bell MY02 STi (Greddy FMIC, uprated pump and reg, big injectors, K&N induction, alloy headers, TD05/06 turbo, full decat, Tek3) 360bhp 313lbsft

Thanks for another great day Rich, quite happy with my figures despite the hot day.
Going to wait now until the beginning of the new year before I put it on again, then maybe if you do your magic with the boost I can get a true figure with better temps.

Well done also to the Swordmaster with his sport although I think you need to work a bit on your dancing M8 LOL. Get the wooden spoon out. See you all again, KEV

Hi Alan, Rob's (My former fabulous, gorgeous, wonderful) car has the 333 remap with PPP hardware but it made a solid 330 on it's previous Well Lane outing. The only subsequent power affecting mod (that I know of ) is the constant water spray switch which I guess would've been a bit of a bonus on Saturday @ 29 degrees C!
