So what? They contributed to the charity, so they have done their bit. If we are all as charity minded as you, we would have texted but not cared that we didn't get tickets, satisifed with doing our bit by texting for £1.50.

No one has done anything wrong here. The charity has not lost any money, in fact, it has gained because alot of people (myself included) would not have bothered texting except for the possibilty of selling the tickets on. I have no interest in going to that gig, so my greed has actually increased the money that Geldof raises.

It's a sick old world eh?

Pardon my ignorance but if the tickets for this gig are free exactly how are they proposing to raise any money to give to the dictators and corrupt government of these African countries, which didn't make a bean of difference 20 years ago either??????????

are they planning on selling Coka Cola and popcorn at exhaubitant prices or summat???

Sorry but Sideshow bob gets my support aswell!!!! nothing will change from this gig.

I am overcome with apathy and indifference by Bob's message. If you want to donate to Live 8 then donate but judging on past history it will sadly have little to no impact. I've chosen to raise and donate money for other causes including the RNIB, the NSPCC and Guide Dogs for the Blind - are these any less deserving causes as Bob would have me believe?

It's about raising awareness and putting pressure on the G8 to cancel the debt, not directly raise money from the concerts.

Do you honestly believe that if the debt is cancelled the corrupt governments in the worst affected countries will spend it on food and shelter and infrastucture for their impoverished populations? Get real! They will use the extra money to line their own pockets, buy weapons and palaces and hammer the poor buggers Geldof is puportedly helping even more.

Geezer
And we'll end up paying for all this cancelled debt through increased taxes anyway.

If Geldork really wanted to do something that would wipe out world (not just Africa's) debt (rather than shameless self promotion and ego massaging), he would start hassling the top 10 world's richest men. These few people, without seriously impacting their wealth, could wipe out the debt.

Removing poverty from Africa needs a bit more than just wiping out the debt. The whole infrastructure and culture needs to change. As soon as these poor African countries start benefiting from aid, the people will start having loads more (than they did before) kids, which then brings on a new round of poverty for that country. It's a vicious circle that needs to be broken. Throwing money (or removing debt) is not the answer, and Geldrone knows it. He just loves the sound of his own publicity.

Lastly, I might consider donating cash to haircut 8. Raising money to get the scruffy twanny a fecking haircut (and some shampoo & soap, maybe even a few Bic razors, if there's enough dosh raised).

I don't agree, Jerome. The poorest people normally have more kids because of high mortality rates and they don't have the state to rely on to look after them. The wealthier people get the less children they tend to have.

Maybe the poor don't have more kids, just more survive. The fact remains they do not modify their breeding practices once they are no longer poor and consequently the population cannot be sustained by it's own available resources (or those the leaders make available).
