broken clavical (collar bone) with pix
[QUOTE=dicky ticker]
Point taken - agree with what you say, but:
In fact I came off a motorbike 5 years ago - had broad arm sling for 8 weeks - bone was almost protuding through my skin - you could press the end and it was mobile! I ended up having a plate put in with a bone graft from my iliac crest - not particularly pleasant. I was one of the very unlucky ones but it was a high energy impact and more likely in these cases not to unite.
I went over the handlebars of a ducati 748 at 60mph at croft - forgot the corner was there! enough of that anyway..
BUT-we cant fix all clavicle fractures - theres just too many of them - and the vast majority heal with no further probs - apart from a unsightly lump and the occasional twinge when lifting heavy objects etc. An orif doesnt make much difference to this - my shoulder still aches when lifting heavy stuff etc. Once its broke - its never the same again - sorry! And I have two whopping scars - chicks dig scars mind - or thats what I believe anyway

15 years in radiology gives ME a different opinion.
i won't bore everybody with the finer details of the radiographic presentation of clavicle fractures but you are obviously in the know too.
i know certain fractures are treated conservatively if they are not disabling or involving a joint. i know 99% of them will heal BUT with a degree of deformity which is considered acceptable by the orthopaedic fraternity NOT necessarily by the patient
15 years has made me cynical and I still stand by MY personal opinion that I would want an ORIF
best of look to the king and enjoy your trip

Its called the NHS mate, I still stand by the fact that 95% plus of clavicle fractures will heal without fixing. And besides the X-ray appearance has no bearing on how the clavicle will fix - thats evidence based. Just because it looks bad doesnt mean jack - when talking about clavicle fractures.
