You would be surprised at how different an outcome can be with different scenario's. Different drivers and certain roads etc can change the result dramatically.
I have some fantastic in car footage of me v's a bug eye WRX. I was in my standard Fabia vRS, in the drizzle and we raced for around 2 miles, and I even gained on though a series of tight bends.
The reason for the above result is mainly down to my knowledge of the road - and my ability to judge the other drivers move's and back off / accelerate at appropriate time to keep my momentum going and thus stay right with the other driver.
However - I have witnessed the receiving end of such jovial behavior with my wife driving my fabia being chased by my friend, and E30 M3 owner, in a 120000 mile 1998 Mondeo TD estate. Now doing the maths, there is no way a mondeo could keep with a Fabia !?!? But due to his late braking, better turn in and power out etc - he stayed glued to our bumper the whole way !?!?!
Point is - there is no point. If you own a Merc SLR you are unlikely to get any surprises, but if you pilot a 200hp 1400kg car - anything can happen!

I miss my Cally Turbo... 260bhp at its best (right before I melted piston 3 ) and even then i got stuffed by a Scooby - I would LOVE to know what the hell was done to that one... God it was quick! (A6 spur off the A50 if anyone remembers... - mine was a Diamond Black N plate)
They can be bloody quick cars - and great fun to drive, but yeah the weight is against them...
I gave a Carrera a run for his money one time - he REALLY had to work at it to get past me but that was a REALLY long straight between Stone and Stapeley...
I'd ignore that bunch myself - there's ALWAYS stories like that doing the rounds... it ain't worth losing sleep over
(more mature Cally related discussions can be had over at www.clubcalibra.net, we always welcome any car enthusiasts to post (Dan above and myself are Moderators on there)

A lot of it is down to the driver.
Calibra Turbos were knocking on the door of 160mph as standard so a tuned one would be quicker still. Any car doing 0-60 sub 6 seconds and 150 plus will give an STi a run but come on does it matter the odd 0.3 of a second or whatever.
An Sti aerodynamically wise will be like a f**king house brick so above 100mph i would imagine a tuned Calibra Turbo would pull away.
Dont take the bait i'd say. Scooby drivers get attacked by people wanting to prove something from Nova drivers to EVO's, that surely must say something about the qualities of having a Scoob!!!!

no, think it comes about because back in 1992 when the scoob was released it was streets ahead of alot of stuff on the road. especially at the price. and became an icon because of it, everybody aspired to owning 1, just because they are now cheap people who once only dreamed of having 1 have the opportunity to purchase one now and its std performance has become a bench mark for people wanting a quick car, the subaru is such a quick car as standard its easier to compare a modified motor to a standard subaru... there is no harm in it and just because the newer scoob cost somebody £20k it doesnt mean its any better (well maybe build quality wise) than a 1992 car thats only worth say 4k.... unfortunately now the subaru is available at such a price difference (fron 3k to 20k) the people who have spent 20k often stick their noses in the air at any other potentiolly performance vehicle because it might be an old knocky calibra....
thats what I think anyhow... the scoobs had its day IMO

Yes but 0-60's dont mean much tbh. Its 0-100 that you should look at imo and it appears that after 60 the cali hits a brick wall!
As for them being top end beasts? I've been in my bro's STi 4 @ speeds indicated on the speedo of 160+

1450 KGs for the Calibra ?, all the ones I have seen recently are getting lighter due to the back arches disentegrating, they used to be a good looking coupe but the Lexus lights/spoilers brigade have ruined them, at least Scoobs were pretty naff straight from the factory !

J4cko - you're thinking of the earlier models of Cally - they did not have the galvanised body that the later models have... they are much better for keeping the rust at bay, my N plate had no rust on it whatsoever when I sold it earlier this year.

i had a cavalier turbo a few years back which was converted to two wheel drive and had a few mods, that was a very quick car and surprised loads of people, it was quicker than my standard impreza when i first got it, the thing with the cavalier was it was so good on fuel yet very fast and easy to drive on long journeys.

i will bet my bottom dollar that a 204bhp calibra will annihilate a sub 300bhp scooby once the speeds aove say 80mph... i've been in a standard one at 160 indicated, (so probably 150odd) and it was still pulling, albeit slowly. not bad for 204bhp i think everyone would agree.
however, as i said, the main problem isn't whose got the faster car if x,y then z are true, but why all these retarded tosspot arseholes are appearing everywhere? those of you that read the whole mig thread will see the minority of people (eg like chip and sbd16vastra) can conduct a sensible conversation while the rest are blithering idiots. what's going on with the world?!!

Also about 149/150mph top speed.
Maybe not Sti performance but still enough to keep up with most quick cars

A std Cav or Calibra turbo only runs 8 psi boost, kick that up to 1.4 bar properly modded and they will give even a modded Scoob a run for their money !!
been there done that !!

Stock HELD boost on the C20LET is 8psi, but overboost takes this to 12psi (for a short burst)
There are kits available that can take this well over 20psi HELD, you do need a fair bit of engine work to get the stock internals to withstand this upgrade but it's easily doable...
My old turbo held 260bhp with 280ft/lbs torque and immensely good fun and the upgrade was less than a grand to get.. and there are more powerful variants out there.
Oh, and the VX figures for the stock turbo were 0-60 in 6.4 and a top speed of 154mph.

That Calibra won't beat mine of the mark, it's a quick RA with the right box.
Chased a couple of Streetfighters Saturday stuck with em to their amazment, they did start to pull away after approximatley 100mph, I was as shocked as they were..

Kieran that varys car to car, mine would sometimes kick up to 14psi if I caught it right (as std), but as mapped its 8 psi. ran mine up to 1.4 on std internals and never had a problem, still going now afaik.

It's not so much car to car as to what the weather is like on the day (or phase of the bloody mooon) but yeah it varies - the figures quoted are VX ones... you can read what you like into them
Bottom line - it's one hell of a tuneable engine and not one to be taken for granted
