Default Classic Remaps...

Hi,

I have just soldered/fitted a socket and ‘mapped’ 27C1028 chip to my 94 WRX with the Z4 ECU. I have also ran wires with a switch from the J1 link (0 ohms) so you can switch back to the original map if need be.

I will be able to supply the socket and chip for the 92-96 classics for £225 (Can arrange fitting if required). I will have two versions available, one for the earlier W6 ECU’s and one for the later Z4 ECU’s (Other variants available to order). Both specifically mapped due to some minor hardware differences between them, the chip replaces both the code and data portions of the ECU. Specification as follows…
  • Boost target of 16psi (Standard is 11.47psi - UK and Pre Sept 94 WRX, 12.7psi - Post Sept 94 WRX and 13.64psi - STi)
  • Fuel and Ignition maps to suit the increase boost and will obtain an air fuel ratio of about 11.5:1 when on boost, plus safe for 97 RON UK fuel
  • Boost duty cycle has been modified to achieve a more aggressive turbo spool
  • Fuel cut limit has been increased to 18psi (approx 14psi standard)
  • 180km speed limiter has been removed.
Obviously performance will depend upon modifications and application, but generally you should expect increases of 30-40bhp on a standard car.

I am going on holiday next week, but will be able to answer any questions during that time, but won’t be able to supply anything until I return…

If anyone wants to come and see my install and the difference between the original map and new one, then you are more than welcome. I live in the Staffordshire area so drop me a mail at kim94wrx@hotmail.co.uk and we can arrange something.

Thanks, Kim.

p.s. images available on request of my installation...

It states it is a genuine prodrive chip, but these were only mapped to 13.64psi

Was this for the pre97 face lift cars????

I have the face lift 97 and it pushes out more than that! around 0.95-1bar which is around 13.8-14.5 psi, its not a prodrive ecu though, can any one help me here?

Just to clarify..

92~96 can have ScoobyECU fitted
97~98 can only have Power Engineering remap (but not STi according to post earlier in the thread) or after market ecu
99 onwards can be ecutec'd but ecutec from bugeye onwards is much better than 99~00.

I could do a group buy on Apexi ecu for 97~98 if wanted but I wouldn't want to get my wrist slapped as I don't pay for advertising at the moment.

Can you explain why you choose 11.5:1 for a generic map that will be put in different cars of varying spec and modification state.

Was hoping for a speedy reply but don't look like I will get one..

11.5:1 for a generic map is too lean imho..

The OE map is richer depending on load and rpm, this is rich but for a reason the map is generic and going in many cars, no engine is the same.

I wouldn't map a customers car on an Apexi, Link or GEMs to 11.5:1, using det cans and wideband.

Scott's chips are a far more safe AFR and follow the OE with regard to AFR.

Default Classic Remaps...

Was in hospital all day yesterday, so appologies for not replying...

Don't know why you say they are generic maps for different cars as the post does actually say that the two chips are mapped specifically for two different ECU's. The W6 and the Z4, they are mapped for standard cars with limited modifications, obviously if you have a lot of modifications then you should have a suitable map.

As far as the AFR goes, I have no problems with my car and the 11.5:1 is a conservative guide not an exact, in any case I believe this is not too lean for a standard map imho...

You say that the OE map is richer, which one...? The earlier W6 ECU's were very weak compared to the much better Z4 map hence the reason why there are two different ones, not a GENERIC chip for all.

Hi

I see there are a few of you on here looking at a re-map for 98 cars!

I have maybe considered this myself (money/cost dependant)?

I won't promise too much yet but maybe able to negotiate a Group Buy via a Friend with Power Engineering connections. This would probably be (i think) a TEK 2 Re-Map.

I will post further if this is a possibility.Obviously a set date would have to arranged too.

Who would be interested ??

Cheers

Hello again

Following on from my last post +Thanks to my M8,this is what i can now tell you:

POWER ENGINEERING can RE-Map Classic 98's for £550+VAT as opposed to £625+VAT,so a saving of £75. They can do 4 in one day, dependant on how many mods you have done,if its straight forward Exhausts, filters etc should be ok .

I just need to know if there are 3 other people with 98 Classics wanting this done and also when's best time for this as they need a couple of week notice(could aim for a date in August)?

One other thing reason this is open to 98 Classics is i originally noticed on this thread a few of you with 98's were keen on having this done ?? (markward/ MikeGG/ AC-scoobie) ??

So let me know if you DEFINATELY up for this and i'll see about arranging it,can't say fairer than that !

THANKS
Duracell

Sorry if i am being cheeky but..

I can do Apexi PFCs with Commanders, fitted and mapped with detcans and wideband for a good price.. (you can sell the Apexi on when you sell the car making back around £350~400). Would be willing to do discount for a group of cars... not restricted just to 98s either all classics..

What sort of insurance do you backstreet mappers have if something goes wrong once you have fiddled ?
Think I'd prefer somewhere like Power Engineering myself.

Thank you for the insult mate, you have never met me yet you call me a back street mapper which to me insinuates I am doing something dodgy.

I am in discussions with an insurance brokers at the moment regarding a policy as it happens. Currently if something was found to be my fault I would have to put my hand in my pocket. It is of course a complicated situation as the car needs to be in perfect health before you start, this is the same risk with having the car mapped anywhere, and the same risk with modifying a car full stop. Engines fail when standard as well as modified. I won't map a car if I am not happy it is 100% perfect engine wise before we start.. unless it is a map related issue etc.

Being a fellow Scooby owner I thought it was a good thing to offer other owners a discounted service.. dunno why I bothered when I get responses like this.

There you go Simon, try to help and some one will pull you down.

Since that poster is so familiar with scoobynet I am sure he can do better

Keep it up JGM, more mappers who know one end of a wideband from a detcan the better IMHO!

GUYS!!!...

I've just read ALL the posts in this thread and TBH its gettin alittle confusin and out of hand

I have a MY98 WR Sport with the FULL Prodrive upgrade inc. ECU. Have FULL Decat and Green Panel filter at the mo only and pro opinion - 265-275bhp at the mo.

Questions:

1. Can my car be re-mapped
2. How much will it cost.
3. IF Group buy goes ahead, when and where.....PLEEEEEEASE.

I think all those interested should post what mods on car, model, year etc and maybe just maybe the group buy can go ahead????

Just my tuppence worth...Apologies IF anyone feels that I am bein alittle aggressive but the thread has alot of posts with, what seems like little movement????

AND YES I AM VERY INTERESTED AS I NEED MORE POWER.....WITH RELIABILITY OF COURSE...

I doubt any tuning company will give you much come-back if the car blows a few days or evena few months after a map.
They may give you a reduced labour rate to re-build it though....

It's very difficult to determine the cause of failure or how close the car was to blowing before the tweak.
