At a 6,000mile/6 Month oil change they are both as good as each other - FACT

Now, I don't want crap in my engine, but I'm not a half-wit like some who have posted above who can be hoodwinked because they are in IT/Banking/Estate Agents and know NOTHING about Mechanics of Machines .... I do!!

And I ain't about to pay £35 for some dream oil

What is the make of oil you sell oilman??

Pete
Pete, now, now, you be nice to Oilman !! You may not believe that his motives for posting are independent of business, but if you don't believe what he is saying -and I don't see why you wouldn't just because he sells the stuff; it's not like he's not bothered to explain why synthetics are better!- then why not ask someone who rebuilds Subaru engines what they recommend.

By all means use the Car Lube, but you'd better get those morris bells out and do your little dance every time you start the car up...just to be safe

BTW 'Car Lube' PMSL. Says it all really doesn't it!!

The question is Pete: 'is it an ester based synthetic; or a bogus synthetic...?'

Real synthetic oil costs more than that to manufacture; though I doubt that you can be told.

Simon

Edited to add: Reading the whole thread I see that Simon/Oilman has answered you and that you wont be told; here we go again.....

We do not just cater for scoobs, we cater for all makes and types of cars and therefore we supply everything from Race synthetics to mineral oils and even monogrades for classic cars!

I'm getting tired of this now, it's your car and your money - use what you like.

There is no point me wasting my time when it falls on deaf ears.

Cheers

The oil or the comments?

Simon, just ignore Pete, he has a reputation as a troll to maintain and does it splendidly

I -for one- have been grateful for your advice. My MY99 gets Silkolene 10w 50 and gets its oil changed every six months (even though that usually equates to only 3000 miles). As a result I hope to have a long, trouble free and happy relationship with it

psl - please use this Carlube stuff.

I would be very interested to know your thoughts after 6 months motoring - assuming you still come on here after your engine has cra**ed out!

Yes Pete, f%ck it! Shove some redline in your motor, I couldn't give a toss what you do. Just don't bother asking advice on here again!
Also, I am actually an engineer, and my company deals with all industrial machinery. I cannot remember the number of times that I have noticed an engine running better with quality oil in it. We actually changed our oil supplier after we had several engine failures. Blocked oil lines in all of them.

OK, if I pour this perfectly adequate CarLube into my precious, ever-so-special Boxer engine it will cause it to fail??

And, if, in 6 months time the Chocolate Boxer Engine hasn't blown up ...... everyone who spouts crap about special oils and bollox will be wrong??

And will come on here to say so??

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ............

I try look at it like this..

If they (Oilman et al) are wrong then you will be out of pocket to the tune of ~ £20 a service - say £40 a year.

If you are wrong and the cheap stuff really is sh$te then you could be out of pocket to the tune of £2000 for an engine re-build.

I do my gambling on the horses, my car gets fully synthetic.

I'll just add my humble opinions...

The Carlube stuff is probably like 'Tesco Value Range' and arguably only fit for old performance bangers. I remember comtemplating Carlube 20/50 stuff @ £5 (in the good old days when I did my own oil changes) which I wouldn't have even put in my old 16 year old Triumph.

The stuff oilman advises is quality at a competitive price - like the Silkolene ProS range or Motul.

If you try looking for real high performance quality oils in the typical car factors or Halfords, you may not find Motul et al. and what dubious ranges they stock may be more than £35 for 5 litres.

Buy the oil, pour it in, shut your trap and go away, you tedious git. No-one cares whether your car blows up or not. Hope this helps.

Tell you what, pop £35 worth of Oil in your Pink car and double its value!! You never know ... you might get a buyer to buy it and drain the oil out scrapping the rest!!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I am not about to put crap in my Impreza, but believe there is a lot of bollox talked about oil here that I wanted to air ..........

I will be putting the Shell Helix stuff in that it has had since new ........

But I still believe that the CarLube stuff has its place .... and it will NOT destroy your engine if changed at 6 months!!

I am on a crusade of testing the utter tripe talked on here ..... the **** Oil Change, the MAF Sensor NON-Issue, the petrol bollox spouted, the re-mapping thats (NOT) required if you happen to use pump 5 instead of pump 7

Ok, then what about using a pattern Oil Filter?? I take it that my engine will explode if I do that too??? I'm sure there is some Oil Filter sold by someone for £50 which just happens to have an anti-explode paper filter???

The subaru oil filter is only £6, complete with sump plug washer.(Yes Pete, it is a good idea to change the washer, but feel free to let your scoob leak oil on the drive way!). If you can stretch yourself to that!

If this guy owns an Impreza I'll eat your vomit aswell. There's no way he'd post the crap he does if he'd had any experience of ownership. Doesn't even realise why Subaru want so much money to extend the warranty. Clearly knows nothing about the effect decent oil has on machinery. Takes issue with qualified people posting free advice. And yet, we're dealing with a world renowned, eminent engineer/scientist, if you believe him. Best not to.

The only tripe you should look at and crusade against Pete, is everything you post up on here.

Go away, and take your face for a ****.

Ahh but only paying £13 for the oil he can afford to let some leak out to save the 20p for the sump washer..!

Jason

BTW according to your previous posts you don't take your scoob (if you've got one that is) over 3000rpm anyway. So PLEASE put this Carpet Lube stuff in your engine. If it dosen't melt we'll all galdly hold our hands up and in years to come people will and say 'remember old Pete the messiah who showed us the light about crap oil and dissmissed the scooby Cadbury's engine myth. Good old Pete RIP 05/012/05.'

What a hero.

Hmmmmmm, nice - I will treat that comment like all your other pathetic attempts to win an argument You just continue to follow the sheep, thats a good boy

I will be fitting a Subaru Oil Filter at £6 ...... I was just wondering whether the **** recommended another Super-Dooper Oil Filter at £50?? I cannot believe that they are willing to accept a Subaru Filter, I mean - come on - Subaru don't recommend even filling it first!!

I hope the sad and misguided continue to dance around their cars at Oil Change time in their Morris Dancing Outfits ...... it makes them feel better!

And as for me NOT having an Impreza Turbo, and owned since new, UTTER BOLLOX!!!

I am an owner who considers it a robust machine ..... not a cry baby wimpie petrolhead that poooops their nappie whenever they fill the car up with petrol, "Is it the right fuel?" "Has the RON number degraded?" "Have I got the correct re-map?" "Was that a misfire, ****, my MAF has gone!" Pathetic in the extreme .......... and very sad too!

If you have an Impreza, and never worry about having a problem with it, why did you enquire about extending the warranty? And why do you come on here asking stupid questions if you're already so knowledgable an owner? Understand now why I doubt your claims about owning one? No shame in not owning a Subaru Pete, bit strange to claim to own one when you don't though.

I will grant that you know, and can paste great reams of, theory about Oil ......... you get a little confused with applying it in practise - I think the idea of selling overpriced oils kinda clouds the issue for you. Thats fine, nowt wrong with making a few £££££ out of others ignorance and willingness to be scared ****less.

But I don't scare easy, and these engines will run absolutely fine on any High Quality Oil ............. no need at all to get shafted to the tune of £35 for 5 Litres. Just ask Farmer Giles what he puts in his 250,000mile Subaru Boxer Engine .......... it will NOT be £35 for 5 Litres!!

You sell 5 Litres of "Oil'For'The'Terrified" .......... I wish you a bumper crop of orders from the Scared Wittless Nice marketing!!

I didn't know Farmer Giles had a turbo..!

Or is this some sort of cryptic code about your 'Farmer Giles'..? Would explain your irritation with all the **** stuff. You need to get some Anusol..!

Maybe if you bought enough you could run your scoob on it..?

You are clearly 'One of the Terrified' .... thats OK, the Internet is a scary place with lots of scary stories about engines blowing up if you are wearing the wrong socks and stuff.

I'll take my chances, along with many 1,000's of others who are not scared easy
