And, as a mechanic, would you re-place the MAF Sensor - just in case, or wait until it failed?
My brother was a Ford Mechanic for many years, went out on his own, then got out completely and now leases cars to whoever will pay him.

And, to my mind, PPP is a waste of money ..... £1000 or something, is it?
Real world driving doesn't allow me to use my car to its full potential in any case, why pay for the extra I could only use on a track?

To my mind, the car I buy is the car I want ............
To modify it is saying that you bought the wrong car in the first place and that makes you look especially stupid - buying a car that doesn't do what you want it to do.
If I wanted an Aston Martin I would buy one - I wouldn't buy an XK8 and modify it to try to get it to look like and behave like an Aston
Buy the car that does what you want it to do
Oh, yes, modifying your car destroys its appeal to the market, it costs £££ but makes the car worth £££££££££££ less!!
Ridiculous

So Pete; what are you going to do, pay for the warranty or hope that you can get by without it? I understand your scepticism and I agree that most dealers cut corners (I wonder how many fill the filter even?); but can you afford to be so blase when, if there is something to it, cutting corners might leave you facing a £2,000 rebuild bill?
With regard to the MAF; its a known issue and more people realise that somethings wrong when they burn through number three piston than notice poor running in the knick of time. With this in mind, itd probably be the wisest £75 that youve spent on yor car if you replaced it with the new improved part, especially considering the (lean sounding) MPG figures that youre already getting; didnt you mention 28 MPG? Even if youre driving carefully Id be wary.....
Sorry to bring your thread back onto topic, I realise that you were having a good troll.

Buying an Impreza does NOT imply you HAVE to modify it
You have a shagged, thrashed Impreza ..... I'm sorry that you find Diesels overtaking you and you cannot respond
I don't think it's pleasant calling the previous owner of your Impreza a Gullible **** (yes, thats right - you cannot even spell Gullible) ..... whoever owned it loved it and cherished it, spent money on it and lost money on it - you have no right to call them a ****.
I bought a new car so I would know how it was run-in ....... the problems you have with your performance could be because it wasn't run-in quite right?

I will NOT be paying Subaru Warranty their requested £1233 for 12 months cover!
It frees me up to use whatever Servicing method I choose - even doing it myself (I do it on my other cars, without dire results) - after all, the Main Dealers put the Apprentice on the Servicing (nowt wrong with that, except that they charge the same extortionate hourly rate as a highly skilled, time served, Mechanic!)
The MAF, well, I reckon it fails as a result of inappropriate Induction Kits ...... having contacted my Main Dealer and mentioned the MAF 'Problem' he laughed and said I had been reading too many internet myths ..... he had NO reason to believe that the standard car suffers in anyway from a sensitive MAF - he laughed at the word 'sensitive' ..... the more sensitive the better he said!
28mpg is what it should be returning at 58,000miles given a carefully run-in engine - driven with sympathy!
