My daughter when aged 9 years old had a 2 ponies, a Jack Russell bitch and a rabbit and she looked after all of them perfectly well. So that puts to bed the theory, that an 11 year old can't.

It all starts now (though it sounds like it has started already). It's a toughj old world out here and the sooner she finds out the better ...

PS: God, that sounds harsh to an 11 year old ..... :-)

Dogs give you hours of fun, they don't go walkabout like cats do. You can train a dog... try training a cat, other than to use a litter tray.
I would say though, don't get a Border Collie! They need stimulation to keep their active minds going all the time and loads of exercise. Many can turn out rogue dogs, if they don't go to the correct type of home.
Think your dad could be wavering - eh?
Chip... STFU about kittens

you don't need to pick cat turds up in a plastic bag, then carry them in your pocket.
cats are less hassle, and just as affectionate mostly.
