That's a matter of taste. IMO it's the worst one off the production line.

I'll find some constructive comments after a good nights sleep.

Fraid not as VAT is payable on the import value including freight if no VAT has ever been paid on the car! So, if you sell it to me for £1 then I sell it to you for £1 you will owe the treasury 17p in tax on the car + 17.5% on the freight

The 320 is more tunable due to the introduction of the Daltek piggy back unichip that was integrated into the FQ340, this basically corrupts signals from the crank angle sensor (amongst other things) to trick the ECU into performing different actions that basically gives the MR FQ 340 that extra 20bhp over the MR FQ320. This is all very well but the daltek has been mapped to modify signals based on what it knows as the standard configuration of the car - if you start modifying the car then the unichip will start modifying signals that are then applied to a non standard configuration which may result in loss of performance and perhaps even detonation. So basically, if you want to start modifying the car then the first thing you should do is remove the unichip effectively making the car a MR FQ320 and losing 1500 quid in the process (1500 quid being the retail price of the Mitsubishi piggy back chip / MR FQ340 upgrade. In the real world you can get em as cheap as 350 quid).

The only reason why should you go for the MR FQ340 is if

1) You like the leather and smartnav and dont mind ditching the chip.
2) You do not plan to modify it.

Hopefully I've explained this in layman terms to make it easier to understand but if you want me to get technical about it then just ask

Personally I couldnt be bothered with the warranty hassles and the tunability issues so I flogged the MR FQ340 and am awaiting a JDM EVO IX due this april (not including model report / sva) early may.

Exactly the reason why I bought the MR340, modifing is all well and good until you come to sell. You never get your money back. I looked for a car that I would'nt have to modify and to be quite frank a MR340 (aright with a decat, fitted by the dealer I hasen to add) IS the most powerful car you ever need for the public roads.

Being able to use the power to it's best and being able to drive it properly it's proberbly one of the fastest A to B cars on the planet. It's frightening.

Owen Devolpments did the mapping on the piggy back chip for the MR340, they are also responsable for the MR400, and most of the other Mitsi Evo tuning.

The car comes with a 3 year warranty if the engine blows which I doubt, Mitsubishi will replace it.
The leather is a nice touch (not even the mr400 gets it) Satnav I can take or leave.
If you shop around you can now pick these up for £26.000 an absolute bargain.

What age & mileage would that be for mate?

Globalgb, thanks for the explanation there. If, ahem, "someone" were to get say a MR320, what would be a relatively simple, cost effective upgrade to take it past the 340-ish bhp of the MR 340?

Get the Spec C WR Ltd and give it the Type 25 treatment as we and a couple of others have done...

Believe it or not a decat

It will give only a few more BHP but the difference in spool up is unbelievable, giving you a rate of acceleration more than the MR FQ340 (however, this comment is subjective as I'm relating between the difference between before and after of the decat fitted to the MR FQ340). The only drawback with a decat on the MR FQ340 were the occasional fuel cuts in extremely cold weather due to the ECU cutting fuel as boost was running too high (as you know very cold air contributes to the boost). On a MR FQ320 however this is not a problem.

For a few more quid ahem.. just under 2K - get a motec, temp probe with fuel pump and a MAP sensor (required by motec (replaces the MAF)) and you will be looking at about a safe 380bhp with approx 350-360lb of torque. Mapping courtesy of 'The Dentist', there is another mapper I'm aware of who I wouldnt actually use as I've witnessed first hand how harsh it is but the dentist (ie Sam) is absolutely first class by all accounts.

Hmm what else.. don't make the mistake of replacing the panel filter of the MR FQ320 / FQ340 - its absolutely spot on and is good for 400+ bhp. Unless you spend big BIG money on a different induction kit you will probably end up losing a few horsies. Intercoolers are a complete waste of time unless you are looking for big bhp/torqiue past 450+. As for ARP bolts, pistons etc - no need unless you are going beyond 400bhp - evo engines are very reliable in the grand scheme of things.

Hope this helps a bit,

Mark

edited to add:

I sold my MR FQ340 for 24.5k in the end - had about 8K on the clock. Though I sold at that price to get shot of it in a reasonable time frame (2 weeks).
