mickyjeff, you committed the offense, and you say "i will take mine on the chin". Good for you - I really hate it when folks come on here and want to wheedle their way out of taking responsibility for their actions! I hope in the long run this lesson keeps you and others alive and safe (and their Scoobys looking nice and shiny too )!
you have to take responsibilty for your actions and i will do that all i was saying was that after driving a chysler grand voyager CRD for 3 years first time out in the scoob to much right foot and bang caught by a very well hidden camera van were madlad gets this there very easy to see sh.t well there bloody not round here, words get taken out of context you know not keeping a good enough look out i didnt mean i was driving with my eyes closed or even not concentrating on what i was doing and truth is i didnt know what my exact speed was at that time and by the way the black 05 wrx sti is looking fine and if it results in a ban then it will stay cleaner for a while longer

Its alright saying 37 over the limit repeatedly but you can easily miss a speed sign when you're concentrating on what you're supposed to be (ie the road and not the speedo or some half baked speed limit sign). Lets face it, most "DUAL" (note the spelling) carriage ways are 70 mph so in that context 87 does not seem that excessive IMHO.

If the police actually took time out to catch some of the tossers who are drink driving and driving without insurance then people might have a bit more respect for them..... but no - that's too hard - its much easier to sit on your **** in a van persecuting people who are decent and law abiding in every way apart from not obeying some outdated speed limit.

And yes you can miss the copper in the van when there is good visibility cus the t@sser will have hidden behind a bush to maximise his revenue for the day!

rant over!
point exactly mickyjeff

So someone else tells you shouldn't be speeding and you give him a thumbs up, I pass my opinion and end up being called childish names, a case of double standards methinks.

My work here is done, the hornets nest suitably disturbed and a lively thread was the outcome, would have been boring without my opinion.
I am off back to the Muppets where I belong.
No hard feelings,
Madlad.

P.S. enjoy your Scooby, but take it easy eh.

& why some people BURN/BLOW UP them is mind boggling to me,
we PAY enough TAX's on everything, & PETROL (tut) & there are enough SPEED BUMPS around, why have MOBILE CAMERAS!!!!

I got stopped last week doing 57 in a 30 which used to be a 40mph zone. It was a nice dual lane road, sunny conditions, in a pack of 3 cars doing the same speed. I guess the coppers only pulled me because the other two cars were a punto and corsa. Got a court appearance coming up.

This is absolutely ridiculous that i got pulled just because i have a nicer car.

On my first day too mate In fact i had just bought and got it registered in my name and the garage i bought it from were giving me a "demonstration" if you like, to make sure it was all working ok.

hard luck mate!
the thing with these cameras is that it takes all the human discretion out of whether you get a ticket or not.
just revenue makers!
a friend of mine whose wife is a copper told me most camera vans are coppers doing overtime volunterily!
there is a 2 mile stretch of dual carriareway near me was 70 now 50 , and there is a copper there regularly.
one sad B*stard was even sat there new years day morning!!!
madlad . well out of order , you dont tell me you drive a scoob and never wander over limit :

You do not have to get banned for this mate (although you do need to slow down and not say stupid things like you didnt know how fast you were going!!!).

If you had been caught by a copper (who might have also done society a REAL favour by checking your tyres/insurance/mot etc) you have few options. However since you got caught by a 'robot' covertly placed to extort money from motorists you have many more options - this is as they are prosecuting virtually almost everyone in the country and make mistakes and have lots of paperwork to do. Look u pthe Section 172 rule elsewhere

I have 6 points from scamera vans and had a road angel on all ocassions - they are useless for laser...

D
PS half an hour after getting the STi V I got stopped - but it was a human being and he gave me a clip 'round the ear'ole! The good old days - now it's fleecing and not policing...

I was caught by a police man, he had a speed gun though and I never said anything stupid, I was kind and polite to them in all respects. Before I even got into his car he had a court thing out ready to be filled in. buggered now, people (solicitor) been saying im looking at a ban :S

For friends experiences, it's not the speed, but the percentage over the limit, that denotes how harshly you're dealt with.

Sorry, but whilst there's no excuse for plod picking one car out of a group traveling at a similar speed, neither is there much of an excuse for traveling at 74% over the limit (87 in 50) and less still for 90% over the limit (57 in a 30). And yes I have been done (78 in 60 whilst overtaking a slow truck, which is 30% before anyone points it out).

I'm afraid it does sound very much like you'll be relieved of your licences for a little while.

Josh

Well we know it's a 50 limit and he was doing 87, in the eyes of the law thats all that matters sadly.

It could be a 5 lane wide 100 mile empty straight but if the limit is 50 then 87 is a nono

Hold on this was a brand new WRX STI u picked up so it wasn't even run in.

so 4krpm limit or there abouts.

and u managed to hit 87mph in a 50mph stretch.

so u pretty much redlined it in the lower gears then???

can't remember what 4k rpm in 6th was in mine during the running in period but i don't think i ever went over 80mph during my first 1k miles running in.

Well I remeber nearly touching a ton in the WR1 when I was running that in (oh my god all the little ****-ant speed ***** are going to moan at me because I'm admitting to being a REAL CRIMINAL) - and no it wasn't over 4k. I don't see why you would need to go over 4k in the other gears to manage to speed in a 50 stretch - he didn't say how long it was.

All this ban lark does is pick on the people who are for the most part law abiding. The rest don't give a **** about a ban - or the fine, they just ignore them both and carry on regardless.....

I would have thought/hoped that most people on here are driving enthusiasts and would speed on occasion (in an appropriate place with proper dilligence), but to listen to some of you spout..... it makes me wonder why you aren't all pootling about in a friggin 1 litre shopping trolley.

max on these is 60
motorway is the only road with 70 limit

Don't know where you got your highway code but I'd take it back for a refund as it's wrong. National speed limit on dual-carriageways and motorways for cars is 70, single-carriageways (i.e. no pavement or barrier separating the two directions) are 60.

Then don't you think you should have got an updated copy and read it in the intervening 20 years?!!

That said, the Powers That Be should make everyone re-read it and re-take their test every 4 years, IMHO. That might do something about the accident and congestion rates!

25mph over the limit is a court appearance, 30mph and the recommendation will be a ban. You can only be banned in person at court so if they insist on you being there make sure you have bus money.

Dual carriageway are two/three laned roads (in each direction) seperated by physical barrier normal crash barriers can be grass verge or kerbing. Speed limit 70mph (for cars) has been years

the speed rules for Dual Cariageways was the same 20 years ago.

So for 20 years you've been holding people up for no good reason. Ever get tailgated?
