Thanks Les, not sure how many times I've read Animal Farm already!
Haven't read much in the last couple of months. Picking up the wife's copy of The Count of Monte Cristo (Alexandre Dumas) and reading bits of that though (I've read it before - very good, but slightly anticlimactical ending). Highly amusing, especially when the Count plays an Englishman, and the narrator can't resist adding "in that manner peculiar to the English" at various opportunities!

It's Not About the Bike: My Journey Back to Life by Lance Armstrong
One of the most moving books I have read where he candidly talks about his battle with cancer. Whilst his cycling features in the book, the focus is on his struggle and recovery.

how can you say it is boring. the prof created a complete world with all it's bits n pieces. i love it to bits and would normally read LOTR at least once a year. i always find something new in it everytime i re-read it.
read most of Dan Brown's stuff recently, the most enjoyable IMHO was Angels and Demons.

What sticks in my mind about the Wellington is how they were so successful in the early 40s and the RAF needed as many as possible for ops, then Barnes Wallis wanted to borrow one to test the bouncing bomb:
RAF staff - "Are you mad? We want every one we can possibly lay our hands on, and you want to borrow one for some half-baked idea? What do you think you can tell the boss to convince him to let you have one?"
Wallis - "Well, you could tell him I designed it...."

Reading Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden at the moment. Amazingly good book a real insight into what life must be like for these women and an insight into Japanese culture.
It has also been made into a film.

1 - just finished dan browns deception point, angels & demons and the da vinci code...enjoyed them, but though DVC was overhyped and a bit disappointed they merely turned into a tom clancy/clive cussler cross techno affair...
2 - couldnt finish the last wilbur smith novel i was reading, a time to kill...just seemed to last forever and not get anywhere.
3 - the only books ive reread have been bravo two zero and american psycho...WTF does that say about me...?!?!
got ben eltons dead famous to do next...

Q. Which book couldn't you finish and why?
A. John Grisham's - Painted House ~ Got bored with it, it wasn't going anywhere.
Q. Which book did you enjoy so much, you might just read it again one day ?
A. Sarum - Edward Rutherfurd. Comment ~ It covers the Fictional/part factual history of Salisbury from the ice age to the '70's....quite a saga.

Just finished "Neither here nor there" by Bill Bryson, and am now well on the way through "Thud" which is Terry Pratchett's latest.
I totally failed to finish "The Satanic Verses" which I thought was utter drivel - poorly written, unstructured and with a gratuitous publicity generating paragraph which bore no connection to the story (such as there was) and rather backfired...
I re-read just about everything that I've read, but the whole Discworld series would probably be my "desert island bookcase"

I can only answer the third question I'm afraid, I don't read enough books anymore........
'The long firm trilogy' by Jake Arnott would be my choice.
I read it in the Summer and was fascinated by the way the factual and (sometimes) fictional characters intermingled in sixties gangland London.
A great read, and was serialised by the beeb a couple of years back if anyone remembers.

More recently Dean Koontz's Frankenstein
I'm mostly too tired these days to sit and read. I just doze off unless the book is something special.

Years ago I read a shed load of Dennis Wheatley books and I've just decided to refresh my memory of them by going out and buying some.
Have also just bought a book called 'The Book of the New Sun' by Gene Wolfe. Never heard of him and bought it on the off chance that it'll be worth reading. Time will tell.
