They may be available to buy at 'around scoob territory' but they cost a hell of a lot more to run, which was my point.
E36 Beemers can look good, but lets face it unless you spend REAL money they're probably one of the few cars on the market that are even worse than a scooby on the inside! Datsun taxi's have nicer interiors than Beemers.
Porsche's are ridiculous insurance, more so than the scooby unless you get the poxy 2ltr vw engine in which case you've only got 125bhp which is less than half of most of the vehicles on this forum, so why bother? As for parts forget it!
We don't even need to talk about Alfa's and they're reliability/rust/cost issues.
Mercs nearly on a level with BMW on the interior stakes and petrol consumption on any engine worth having (within the scooby price range) is worse than a scoob.

My point is yes they're are some classy European motors out there but they all cost more to own and run than there Japanese counterparts.

P.s. Mazda RX-8, Mazda 6, Lexus IS200, Nissan 350Z, Nissan Skyline GT-R are classy cars all more so than an E36 328i.

Nowt wrong with BMW interiors!! Functional and they don't squeek.

Porsche's aren't too bad to insure either - M3's, Scoobs etc are alot worse for premiums.

And why are Jap performance cars mainly driven by younger people? Cheap way to go fast?
Thats exactly it, more performance for you pound with a jap car generally. None really have an upmarket image, the brand that comes closest is Lexus - but they make some pretty ugly looking cars (IS200 is ok, rest arent - certainly couldnt be called stylish) - and thats reflected in their retained values - far lower than BMW/Merc/Audi.

E36 interiors are worse than a Scoob? PMSL that's the funniest thing I've heard for a while. Running costs of a Scoob - if you service it properly are about the same as a BM.

SAP,

My point about the M3/328 sport is valid IMO. It's why a good 96ish 328 sport is worth not a lot less than a good 96 M3. Classiness is defined by image, image is defined by the type of person owning/using or wearing a product.
I'm not saying I agree with that and it makes no difference to me when buying things.

An M3 is far more classy than a 328 Sport. Both are excellent quality and top motors though.

I don't give a ****e who buys/owns them.

One "could" say an e30 M3 is a black mans car - however it doesn't detract from the fact it's about as good as a road car could be as a car used on track.

M3s (E36) have no class because the people who buy them (in the main) have destroyed that - much as the Chavs have destroyed Burberry.

What are you driving at the moment Geekboy? Is it stylish and classy? If not, why not? Personally, I don't find it particularly stylish or classy to be broken down much, hence my predeliction for vehicles of a Japanese persuasion. Owned a 'stylish and classy' German VW Corrado VR6 for a long time....it didn't repay my faith in it and as a consequence of its unreliability, has vacated the premises, despite its undoubted dynamic ability. All depends on the individual, however, I regard it as stylish and classy to arrive at my intended destination without having to get my hands dirty/call for AA assistance. Knock Lexus should you perceive it to be an easy target, however, anyone with experience of the brand understands its ability, No shame in being an offshoot of Toyota, most manufacturers envy them.

Its a figure you can measure/compare though.

Saying something is classy is subjective and not measurable, some people think oranges are classier than apples doesnt mean oranges are better than apple or vice-versa. (just a example btw, I prefer grapes myself)

Someone may think their car is classier than mine but I know mine is faster or slower.

very true, i work for a motor parts manufacturer and one of the companies we are trying to get a contract with is toyota, it is seen as a credit to the company if they are one of our customers.

we already have ford VW and volvo but toyota would be seen as a step up the ladder.

Class, bags of power, looks, luxury and all fairly discreet too.
Bet you don't see any with Lexus lights or a burberry cap wearing driver
