Open neck is fine - is it the year you are questioning? Yours is an 04 isn't it?

Not much in it between twin dump and open neck, but open neck is technically slightly better.

H&S is a very good option - not sure on price. You going for 2.5" or 3"

Probably will be 2.5", you only get 3" if you specify it. Worth a thought if you are planning a VF turbo upgrade and more power

Ok without it, but you will gain further with a remap after decatting.

Would advise a Knocklink and boost gauge regardless..

I believe I have an open neck exhaust and mine is a full decat - needed nothing doing to engine cept I had an air induction for better airflow and more performance.

It sounds the dogs danglies too.. a really nice rumble.

Im waiting for that guy from the IOW to come back to me about a chip I know he got my emails coz I tag them but he hasn't replied

SG - Your STi2 is a different kettle of fish to a UK MY03.

You need to be careful on an STi if you decat and then add an induction kit. Even with the earlier MAF, most induction kits will cause the fuelling to lean out on boost - added to that the exhaust has speeded everything up too and you may have a problem. My decatted STi4 and 5 both detted on boost with a full decat - octane booster toned it down a little, but still not right.

The gains from most induction kits are usually negative if not housed off from the engine bay - due to hot air draw. Any gain will be from leaning the mixture, and they also do the torque no favours IMHO.

Just my 2 penneth

Ive had mine installed 2 years and gained around 20-25 bhp.. no problems yet. Perhpas coz I have an import? I noticed immediate sustained power that gets better after a service - cleaning out my valves etc.

20 bhp from a full decat on an STi is about right - filter really will be not much - if anything. I lost torque, power didn't change with a K&N on a uk car, did a before and after test

The info I gave above was specifically for STi (ie an import) still an issue on a UK car but a fair bit less of a prob as thy are in a much less state of tune, and only require 97 RON - rather than the 100 RON we need.

The filtration is crap on the HKS / Blitz and the power gains they claim are from allowing more air in, but also more crap (engine bay oil mist too) and hot air. Also the standard airbox is great design in terms of keeping out heat and only needs changing above 320 ish bhp

Cleaning out valves??

Depends on what year / model it is Paul. Generally Uk cars are fine, a remap just adjusts the fuelling / timing / boost to suit your mods, therefore the gains will be more. Adding e TEK remap after a full decat is like adding another decat on all over again, well worth it.

Paul, the only real thing you need to do is fit a little black box which stops the CEL coming on all the time!!

Will chat Monday!!
